In a comment to a recent post, Tom D asked whether we have any insights about which tool deals are particular popular with ToolGuyd readers.
Basically – which of our posted tool deal are readers actually buying right now?
We have affiliate relationships with a number of retailers, and so I sorted through some of the anonymous reporting data. Trends usually stand out: in a sea of 1x and 2x quantities, patterns emerge when more than say 5 readers buy the same thing.

So, it appears that this is what reader are buying:
It seems that I’m not the only one who thought this Streamlight Stylus Pro LED flashlight was a great deal at $14.03.
To everyone that got in on this deal – I hope you enjoy your new flashlight – please let us know how you like it!

My post about the Dewalt ToughCase wasn’t about any deal or discount. I posted about it because it has been on both my shopping list and posting queue for a while, and I just think it’s a good product at reasonable price. Apparently many readers feel the same.
I’ll likely order at least 2 of them myself before the end of the month.
Regarding the scale – keep in mind that this is sized for holding power tool accessories – screwdriver bits and the such. Remove a divider or two and you can fit drill bits or saw blades.
It seems that Amazon has matched Acme Tools’ Black Friday deal pricing on this Bosch 10″ axial glide miter saw.

This Dewalt 14pc drill bit set is on sale for $10. I bought one for my own use, and it looks like many of you did too! It’s still in stock and on sale at the time of this posting.

This Bosch 30′ range cross-line laser looks to be a fantastic deal at $40. It’s backordered right now, with a November 19th, 2020 estimated back-in-stock notice.
Order now to get in line for fulfillment – just because it’s not in stock doesn’t mean it can’t sell out further.
I’m surprised that the laser distance measuring tools aren’t as “hot deals” as I anticipated out of personal interest.

I thought this Dewalt 1/4″ metric socket set was a good price at $20. Now, it’s back up to $30. It might go on sale again for Black Friday or the holiday season, but that’s uncertain – we’ll have to check back.
Deal Status: Expired
This Dewalt 8pc SAE wrench set is still on sale for $20. Seems like a good deal, especially with the case. A couple of you bought it, affirming my believe that I’m not the only one who still uses SAE/inch/imperial tools.

I know some of you have bought this Metabo HPT (Hitachi) 10″ miter saw in the past and have had good experiences with it. I also think that $89 with free shipping is a great sale price.
Are readers going to be interested in an entry-priced 10″ non-sliding single bevel miter saw? You guys are saying “yes!”

We have since learned that this Bosch 21pc drill bit set is likely the same as the Skil set that used to go on sale for Black Friday for ~$10.
You know what? It also looks like the Craftsman drill bit set I bought years ago as part of a Sears Black Friday sale, and I know that Bosch used to make a lot of power tool accessories for Sears and Craftsman. That was a decent set for the money.
I bought the Dewalt 14pc drill bit deal instead, and so did many of you, but some of you are opting for this Bosch 21pc set. Please let me know how you like it!
Deal Status: Active but backordered
I impulse-bought a 2-pack of Milwaukee tape measures for $10 with FREE SHIPPING from Home Depot, and a lot of you are doing the same!
About 2/3 of the orders are for (1) 2-pack, the others are for (2) 2-packs. So that’s $10 for 2 or $20 for 4.
For those of you that ordered 4 tape measures, are you splitting them with a buddy, or stashing them in different locations?
Be sure to briefly test your tapes once you get them! I didn’t a few years ago, and that’s how I have a Stanley FatMax tape measure I never like using and felt too guilty to give away.

The Dewalt ToughSystem 2.0 tool box combo just went on sale for $149.
Why is there a spike in interest?
I took a closer look, and Home Depot is now offering FREE SHIPPING, where in-store pickup or paid express deliver were the only options before.
The individual components are also now available for “free ship to home.” That’s probably a good idea since inventory can be tricky to track down in stores.

We posted about some other Milwaukee power tool accessory deals so far, but this 20pc oscillating multi-tool blade and sanding pad set has been by far the most popular.
Home Depot seems to be selling out – they removed the ship to home option – but you can still opt for in-store pickup.
In my area, my closest stores have 58, 24, 49, 19, 7, and 18 in stock, so there’s no need to rush.

You guys are buying a LOT of Milwaukee Packout tool boxes! (And so am I.)
The 3pc combo is a good buy, as is the “buy 3 things get a free dolly or tool bag” promo, but some of the previously discounted tool boxes bounced back up to their full pricing.
I’ll likely order one or two more of the smaller tool boxes before the end of the shopping season – especially if *hopefully* there will be an added coupon on the full-price non-promo items for Cyber Monday.

The Packout low profile compact organizer is on sale for $20, which is still pricy, but I’ll take any discount. I ordered a couple for myself, and quite a few of you did too, buying anywhere from 1 to 7. They’re still $20, but not available for immediate shipping.
Deal Status: Backordered
I guess I’m also to blame about the organizers selling out at Acme Tools.
The standard Milwaukee Packout 11 compartment organizer is still on sale for $35, and it’s in stock. Honestly, I thought this deal would be more popular given the $10 discount.
Maybe it is, and I’m just not seeing it – affiliate sales data is fragmented and in all different categories, this could be in one of the buried categories I didn’t look at yet.
Anyways, this is a good deal that some of you – and myself – took advantage of.

Home shipping is no longer available for this Dewalt 30pc MaxFit screwdriver bit and right angle attachment bundle. It’s a great deal at $15, in my opinion, and it looks like a lot of you agreed! You can still order for in-store pickup or paid delivery if you order a bunch of other stuff that would ship from a local store.
Deal Status: Limited to Store Pickup
I wouldn’t have thought this Milwaukee 120pc Shockwave screwdriver and drill bit assortment would be very popular, but there’s enough interest that the SKU stood out in affiliate reporting data.
Seems like a good deal for $25. I’d say you tell me, but that’s exactly what happened here.
Deal Status: Active
This Milwaukee 70pc Shockwave screwdriver bit set is a FANTASTIC deal at just $10 and with free no-minimum shipping!
When I started working on this post, this is the first deal I checked, and I saw that shipping was disabled. But now it’s back?! If you can get this for $10 shipped to your door for free, that’s the best deal. If you have to opt for in-store pickup, that’s still a very good deal.
In-store, the advertised price is still $20.
I really like the variety you get here – lots of usable bits in a range of sizes outside the typical Phillips #2, Torx T25, and square #2 focus of most bit sets.
I might have to buy another set – one for the garage, and one for my portable kit.

Some of you asked us to keep an eye out for deals featuring the Dewalt DW735X planer, and we did.
I checked, and a few of you bought the planer package deal, which comes with the planer, spare blades, and table extension set, and a few have also went with the alternate deal that also gives you the Dewalt mobile stand at a great discount.
This isn’t a top seller, I’m more mentioning this deal for those of you that missed it.

I thought that these Milwaukee power tool accessory and Packout organizer bundles would be of greater interest. Maybe it’s because free shipping was deactivated? I checked, and this hole saw and reciprocating saw blade bundle is back in stock for “ship to home.”
I see a couple of orders for the Shockwave bit set, where you get a $25 ($20 on sale) organizer and 100pc bit set for $50.
I suppose, aside for the hole saw and Sawzall blade set, the other sets will mostly interest users who were previously interested but balked at the high pricing? Those sets are currently 50% off.
I’ll keep an eye on the Shockwave bit set (I already bought the hole saw and Sawall blade bundle) – as it looks to have a good selection of power bits and longer power bits.

Did You Find This Useful?
I will usually look at affiliate reporting once or twice a year, most notably during “Cyber Week” to see if readers are buying any great tool deals that I might have missed. I believe there were 2 such deals last year that resulted from a quick scan of purchased SKUs.
I could ask in a post what are you buying, but most ToolGuyd readers are not active commentors. Looking at affiliate retailer reporting data, I can sort out the SKUs that are purchased via ToolGuyd links, at least for some retailers.
If you think this is helpful or at least interesting, I can do this again during the holiday season, although not too many times as sorting through the data is time-consuming and cumbersome.
What’s interesting – to me at least – and reassuring, is that some of the most popular deals are the ones I took advantage of myself. It seems that my “if I like it I should post about it” policy seems to be a good approach.
What Other Deals Are You Buying?
Are there any other tool deals you feel should or would be on this list?
Me? I just ordered a (Lego) Chevy Camaro.
Rog
Just returned from my local HD with an armful of the $10 Dewalt storage cases. They’re much nicer than I expected; and especially for how inexpensive they are. Thanks for the heads up on them!
Stuart
You’re welcome! I posted about that a couple of times now, but wasn’t sure if it would be redundant to include it here again.
Home Depot has only had very short windows where you could buy it online for shipping, and only a couple of people ordered for in-store pickup (I’m assuming since shipping is deactivated).
Here it is again: https://toolguyd.com/dewalt-organizer-deal-home-depot-black-friday-2020/

Stuart, I don’t know if you had a chance to read it, but I sent you a message telling you that the DeWalt DCF899M1 1/2” XR Impact Wrench is $199 at BOTH Home Depot and Lowe’s. That’s a kit that has always STOOD at $319-$329.
GREAT DEAL.
Big Richard
That is a great deal. Well Played Louie.
Stuart
That is a great deal, thanks!
I don’t see anything in my inbox. If it was via a social channel, Facebook and Instagram have been playing games with things. I’ll see a notification, open it and see a blank page, and then be unable to find it anywhere in any of the related apps.

After all these tool deals I have no money left for Legos!
Ben V
I know that feeling!

Stuart.
How on earth will you find time to build that LEGO Chevy?
Do you not sleep?
Stuart
It’s not for now, it’s for a few days after Cyber Monday when I take a much-deserved reset for a few days.
Hey, it’s discounted a little and then there’s an added coupon! You guys aren’t buying enough through affiliate links where I can pay full price for Legos! =P
But yeah… I don’t really sleep much in November.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the worst – I don’t go down until 5 or 6am, and then I am back at it as early as I can manage.
DT
“A couple of you bought it, affirming my believe that I’m not the only one who still uses SAE/inch/imperial tools.”
LOL as long as there are still SAE nuts and bolts to use them on.
PETE
I bought the $69 ryobi pressure washer from HD. I’m pretty impressed. I have gas powered ones, one with a furnace on it. But the ryobi is a nice unit.
PETE
I also bought the $10 dewalt drill bit set. Didn’t know it was a t-stak style case that can interlock with other cases. Pretty cool
GML
I bought this as well, mainly for gutter cleaning, light stucco and vinyl fence cleaning, etc. I would’ve liked a more powerful pressure washer, but I’m painfully limited on space. This has exceeded my expectations, going to try a foam wash on my very dirt car this weekend.
Josh Carlson
I believe some of the best deals have been Milwaukee. The $199 two battery kit that gets you a free tool (return the 4.0 batteries for $100 back) is the highlight of the season.
The fuel m12 oscillating tool/Bluetooth radio/2 3.0ah battery deal from yesterday was a great deal. I don’t need any of them but I was tempted.
Dave
That’s not a “deal”, it’s unethical. Crooked. Dishonest. Fraudulent. Illicit.
Tom D
A tool for $99 isn’t that great a deal and if HD wanted too they’d not allow the partial returns.
Lyle
Woah, that’s a little harsh. I’m not advocating doing this, I just think what was described doesn’t fit into any of the words you used. This is usually described as a hack. If the person got the deal and tried to return something at full value without the receipt, then it would be everything you said.
Big Richard
It is not unethical, crooked, dishonest, or anything else at all. HD is receiving their stock back, they will resell it probably at a higher cost once the sales are done. They usually make more money on returns of this sort, I can verify that through knowing retail managers.
The prices of the items are prorated anyways, It’s no different than if the two items were on sale separately, which is essentially what this is. The whole “buy this at MSRP, get this free” is a marketing tactic. I don’t think you understand retail.
Stuart
It’s a loophole that some shoppers exploit.
It’s not something I have done or would encourage, but I wouldn’t consider it crooked.
It can be unethical when talking in the context of resellers.
And it can also inconvenience fellow shoppers. If there 2 people who want to take advantage of a deal, but only 1 left in stock, and it’s bought by someone who is exploiting the “I will return the free or base item for a refund to lower the cost of what I want to keep” loophole, the one who wants to actually buy and use the tools will be impacted.
You won’t see me encourage or condone the tactic because it could encourage misbehavior. If too many people do this, nobody who wants the full deal would be able to take advantage of it.
But, there are also much worse consumer behaviors and reseller practices.
If the practice becomes too rampant, retailers will find a way to require both items be returned. Right now, it’s probably not a big enough deal for them to change policies over.
Dave
ENCOURAGE misbehavior. It’s already passed that. But like they always say, there is no honor among thieves
Stuart
I’m just saying why I won’t mention or encourage it.
In another comment, Big Richard describes the practice of buying and returning parts of bundle deals as being, and I quote “Sometimes frowned upon by corporate boot lickers.”
I have never seen the practice as being an appropriate exploit, but it’s not productive to argue against those who embrace and encourage it. People will do what they want and there’s no point in arguing against it.
Years ago, when I was on a tight budget, I bought a Dremel rotary tool at Lowes, along with some accessories. They scanned the wrong barcode and bagged it up. The order total was less than the price of the rotary tool. I realized the total purchase amount was too low, and saw there was a barcode on the tool and also a “do not scan this is not a barcode” barcode. I said that it didn’t scan, they said it did, I asked them to check again, and the rescanned it, I paid what I owed, and I left the store.
If I had left the store with merchandise that I knew I didn’t pay for – that would have been theft. Theft by omission?
Exploiting a loophole might not be perfectly moral or ethical – something isn’t proper just because it’s overlooked, ignored, or accepted by retailers – but that’s a grey area until retailers say “no, you have to return everything together” and enforce it. They haven’t done so, but when they want to bar the practice, they will usually bundle tools in a single SKU with special packaging. There’s no way to do the same with a “buy this, get one of those” bundle promo.
Aaron
this post is also a good reminder that by clicking the affiliate links I can get the same pricing but also help keep this site free and unbiased. A good and useful reminder
Tom D
I often wonder how the Affiliation links work with smile dot Amazon. But HD et al it’s no skin off my back.
Stuart
I don’t know.
I always thought they’re non-overlapping, but I can’t create a link that validates via their link checker, and I can’t easily find guidance on how to do so.
Jared
Speaking of laser measuring tools, Home Depot in Canada is featuring a $19.99 55′ Dewalt laser measurer in the Black Friday flyer.
Model number DW055PL – which I have never heard of before (I own a Bosch). There’s a Dewalt DW055E that sells for 3x the price (and has a different design), but no idea how similar those two might be to one another other than model numbers.
$20 is a cheap gamble if someone wants to try it out.
Avi
On your recommendation got the dewalt right angle, Milwaukee bit set and omt blades. Tried to get Milwaukee two pack of squares, but my local store keeps canceling my order, even though they’re showing over 50 in stock!?
Also the m18 rover is down to 80 from 100 on some websites, jump on it or wait for a better deal?
And the m18 topoff, preorder or wait for a deal next holiday season?
Koko The Talking Ape
Stuart,
I tried to buy that DeWalt 6 1/2″ circular saw deal many times using your link, but it was always “Out of stock.”
But when I went to the HD page and navigated through DeWalt deals, etc., I could choose the battery deal and then select the free tool, and the circ was available.
So there’s at least one affiliate sale that didn’t get counted. :-/
Big Richard
I never buy from the links, so there’s a few dozen more that didn’t get counted.
Koko The Talking Ape
I don’t always, but I tried to this time, because it was a big ticket item (for me), and I know ToolGuyd gets a bit of money from any sales through those links.
Big Richard
That money comes from somewhere though, contributing to the overall cost of goods, hurting consumers in the end. I don’t want to pay someone else for something I bought.
And that’s not just here, that’s any site/forum. Plus I don’t think the links explicitly disclose that they are possibly earning commission, which goes against my personal ethos. That is my personal opinion, I totally get other people wanting to help a site out. To each their own.
Stuart
There’s a disclosure notice at the TOP of EVERY single post.
Every page you view here, costs bandwidth. Every comment you make takes space on the server. Do you receive newsletters? That’s also a paid service.
Someone else is paying for the content you read and features or services you use here. With affiliate links, the money comes from readers’ actions, and not reader’ wallets. Revenue either comes from readers’ purchases, or from advertisers. Advertising ensures that I can be light on affiliate links as I please, and affiliate links ensure I am not indebted to advertisers.
With affiliate links, you pay ZERO extra – referrals come from retailers. They factor it into their marketing expenses, and it’s usually so small that it negligibly affects their profit margins.
Clicked a Google shopping link? There’s an affiliate link there. Clicked a link from a tool brand website? There’s an affiliate link there. Use a browser extensions or price checking service? There’s an affiliate link there.
Content is supported through advertising and affiliate links, and there is no way around it. On my end, revenue support has to come from somewhere.
Use an ad blocker? I don’t blame you, ads on some websites can be utterly obnoxious.
Purposefully avoid affiliate links? Okay, to each their own.
Your viewership is still being paid for, whether by others’ referral purchases, advertising clicks, display advertising, or sponsorship opportunities.
The content you enjoy (or don’t enjoy as it usually seems to be), as well as your freedom to leave comments – there are costs associated with that, and the money does still have to come from somewhere.
I don’t like the idea of pay walls or subscriptions. Nor do I like giving too much revenue influencer to retailers or brands.
Having affiliate link revenue in a different bucket than ad networks (e.g. Google placements), display placements, and sponsorship opportunities gives ToolGuyd more editorial freedom, and it gives me the power to say NO to advertising opportunities that I find disagreeable. This is how it always was and will continue to be.
It’s also a form of checks and balance. I try to view affiliate links as reference links – discrete but beneficial to everyone when used. If they’re obnoxious, readers leave. If they’re forced, readers ignore them. If they’re BS (I hate fake “wow this is a deal” posts I see everywhere these days), a reader might buy and return poor recommendations, with zero net referral commission but also worsening trust, credibility, and sentiments for steering that reader the wrong way.
That’s how I treat affiliate links, and ToolGuyd user experience and advertising policies are largely based on my personal preferences and inclinations as a reader of other websites and web content.
I’m not trying to sway your stance, just explaining mine.
I don’t want to discuss this further. Some readers have expressed more prominent links to help support ToolGuyd, and I don’t like the idea of that either. There’s always this page – https://toolguyd.com/shop/ located at the bottom menu.
Big Richard
Like I already said, I totally get it.
Stuart
It’s not exact. Plus some people might see a deal post at lunch and stop by the store on their way home, or order from a different computer or device.
Or, if you order x-amount of time later, it’s not counted/credited as the cookie or referral association has expired.

I purchased the Milwaukee $40 hole dozer set, but for some reason the affiliate link did not work for me and I had to get it through navigating to Home Depot’s website.
Stuart
Whoops. Thanks – fixed it!
JoeM
Unfortunately, I haven’t bought any of these deals, but I HAVE wishlisted many things.
And your affiliate links don’t work for Canadians.
But Atlas Tools has a lot of these deals, or better, and it’s their regular price. Rest assured, you ARE GUIDING ME TO WHAT I WILL BUY! Tell your Affiliat Links to count that! 😛
Gabe
I bought the Milwaukee 70 pc. bit set after your post. In store at my HD it was marked ~$10 last Friday, so there must be store to store differences in advertised pricing.
Thank you for all your effort in finding deals like these! An idea for the backburner: an informational page describing how to use affiliate links to support you best (e.g. commissions or just data supporting your influence). That way those wanting to go the extra mile and support you know how.
Stuart
I think that it’s destined to be $10, and it’s just the pre-Thanksgiving price that’s $20. Signage just needs to be updated in stores.
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Honestly, I prefer for affiliate links to be forgotten about. I try to have them as reference links without the “SUPPORT US WITH THIS” messaging I see some other places.
Here, I felt it necessary to mention it because that’s where the anonymous data comes from.
The best way to help support ToolGuyd is to give a thumbs up when you find benefit or interest in what we write, and suggestions for improvement or content you’d like to see when you don’t.
Jim Felt
$10 at a couple of HDs in my area. FYI.

I’m hoping for a good deal on a compressor, large enough to drive a soda blaster…
Stuart
That’s going to be tougher.
My approach would be:
1) Short-list maybe your top 2 choices.
2) Watch for coupons or similar discounts.
3) Compare a quick list of notable specs against any models that pop up for a “deal of the day.”
4) Ask me to keep an eye out for it – I can’t make promises, but sometimes I spot certain deals that aren’t as obvious if I don’t know what to look out for.

A few days ago, I got a Milwaukee M18 brushless drill/driver 2801-20 kit with CP2.0 battery and charger, $99 at HD, from one of your pages. Thanks for putting these together.
I’m a DIYer preparing to have a house built, just now jumping into the cordless power tool world (with a M18 chainsaw and a Hackzall on backorder). My other stuff is corded, with all sorts of brands. I enjoy the articles and seeing the opinions in the comments.

The $9.99 21-pc Bosch drill bits are the same as the old $9.99 21-pc Skil drill bit set, including the metal case, the only difference is the sticker on the metal case and the cardboard package.
They’re not the same as the Craftsman set, though. Those were black oxide in a red case. Might have been the same manufacturer though, they were all from China and produced in extremely large quantities.
Mac
Feeling very left out on Makita deals. Two good opportunities to get a cordless grinder and both sold out before I could fill out the info in checkout.
Oflannabhra
Yeah, I’m hoping there will be more deals close to Christmas.

Got 4 of the tape measures. 1 in the truck, one on each floor of the house and then a spare. Love the visibility.
How is the durability of the handle on that top Dewalt organizer from Amazon? Looks to be the weak spot.

I thought the Lego set was a great addition at the end. It seemed appropriate since my fun money used to go more towards Lego than tools. My son isn’t old enough to play with my Lego sets yet, though he likes the Duplo blocks he has. So, my workshop has tools and Lego sets in a giant tub. I have 3 sets up at work since there’s not a good place to have them displayed at home.
Stuart
Thanks!
That started off as an internalized joke. Some people told me they were or wanted to get into reviewing tools for the money, to extend their garages, and buy fancy cars. So I made the joke to myself – oh boy I can finally get a Camaro or Porsche! And then I looked up the prices of those Lego sets and went with the Camaro since it’s on sale.
These cars are actually nice builds – I have a Fiesta from 2 years ago – but they involve a ton of stickers and very intricate connections.
We have a growing number of Lego containers here too, and the hardest part is sorting it all in a kid-friendly manner. I have taken a liking to buying certain pieces from Lego’s “replacement” part shop and Bricklink, and then there are a bunch of sets that were built and then deconstructed or play-damaged over time.
My kids also still like to play with Duplo, and have evolved to playing with it in a different way, focusing more on the characters. One of my goals for 2021 is to put up another bookcase or shelves for proper display as well. My Technic sets see a lot of play, but need to be a little out of reach to avoid unsupervised play.

I have 3 lists, want ,need, and if the price is cheap enough.
I buy approximately 1tool per year at full retail.
Through toolguyd I’ve added 8 packout items,(which were the first since December of last year)Makita barrel grip jigsaw .
The latter never seems to go on sale, but cpo had 25 off 100 + 11% veterans day that I stacked.
Lastly just purchased several Wera screwdrivers, for personal and co-worker Christmas 🎁.
