This looks like a good way to avoid the time and stress involved with piecing together a complete woodworking layout and marking kit from individual components. Plus, it gives you all the basics in a really nice and tidy all-in-one package, which simplifies the need to find a place for everything.
The set’s price isn’t really beginner-friendly, so it might be a better fit for intermediate woodworkers looking to upgrade or replace their beginner tools.

yikes, that seems a little steep. i question some of the additions. 3 tape measures, small and large rulers and the marking pencil. seems like they could get the price under 300 it may be a little more palatable. i would think that almost everybody already has those items, but hey, nobody has ever accused me of being a woodworker so what do i know.

I do love when stuff is all nicely packaged together and separated by foam, makes me feel like James Bond. Although the price on this seems a bit high, especially when I already own most of these measurement implements. I also have an empty LBoxx and some Kaizen foam, maybe I’ll make my own.

For woodworkers? No striking knife? Lee Valley has their own Veritas branded striking knife and it is only $11. Puzzling. 4″ caliper is lame. I use a 6″ fractional in the shop for woodworking.

I don’t know if I agree with that. My feeling is that they looked at historical sales data to see which tools woodworkers often bought together, and based their bundling decisions accordingly.

As a full time woodworker, I admire most of the tools Veritas puts out but this set is way over priced for what it offers. For me, precision is key to what I do yet these look like something you could put together at Harbor Freight for $50. There are too many filler implements and not enough actual precision instruments designed to bring the level of accuracy to bare for such a steep price.
Veritas, if you sell ANY of these you need to give those folks a refund and an apology!
