Walmart has a Hyper Tough brushless hydraulic impact driver for just $65, which is extremely cheap compared to the few other tools of this kind on the market.
That price isn’t just for the tool-only, it’s for the impact driver, 20V (max) Li-ion battery, and a charger.
It seems a bit light on specs, but that’s the norm for oil impact drivers.

- 1/4″ hex bit chuck
- 531 in-lbs max torque
- 3,000 RPM max speed
- 3 speed and torque settings
- Weighs 2.2 lbs (tool-only)
- 2Ah battery charges in 4-5 hours
Walmart claims the new cordless Hyper Tough impact driver has a hydraulic drive for quieter operation and less vibration, but don’t provide specs to back that up.
Oil impacts are typically quieter than traditional impact drivers, and have a different power curve – hence the lower max torque specs.
I’m wondering which OEM is making this for Walmart.
To my knowledge, there are only a couple of cordless power tool brands that are – or were – producing oil impact drivers. There’s Milwaukee, TTI North America (Ryobi, Ridgid), Dewalt, and Makita.
Looking online, a Worx (Positec) quiet impact driver launched a year or two ago. Positec is an OEM that is known to manufacture tools for other brands.
I’m going to guess it’s either TTI or Positec. Or it could be some other player that I’m not familiar with.

It could also be Chervon (Flex, Skil), but I haven’t seen any hydraulic/oil impact drivers from any of their brands yet.
At this price, I think some users might buy just the tool (kit) without much thought about buying into the platform.
I’m not a fan of wall-wart-type battery chargers. It’d be better if the battery platform had more features, such as built-in USB-C charging or a power bank feature, which has become more common with DIY-grade cordless power tools (e.g. Skil, Worx).
I’ve received some really weird and shilly emails about the Hyper Tough brand, but there’s no one at Walmart who we can send questions to. Their corporate PR has also ignored my emails and questions. In other words, if you’ve got questions, no one has answers.

Menard’s house brand Masterforce has two different oil impulse drivers, one is older and now on clearance, but both appear to be from different OEMs.

I worked at Menards corporate until about 3 years ago. At that time, all Masterforce tools were made by Chervon, but that may have changed since then. The drivers do look quite different and there’s no similarity in the model numbers so you may well be right.

The all-black HyperTough tools have typically tested very well, especially for the price. I hope they cross the border eventually – I haven’t yet seen any in Canada.

That’s quite a price difference versus the Dewalt DCF870B hydraulic drive hovering around $200 bare tool. Makes me wonder what corners Hyper Tough cut. Are you going to have an oily mess of a tool after a few tough sessions?
Jason
Assuming not TTi if they’re somewhat breaking up over Hart?
Wondered if Walmart would just expand Hyper tough to have everything in those categories more “house” brand and have a couple different qualities à la Harbor Freight.
Ray
Almost certainly Worx , there is big similarity between the other Worx tools and Hypertough and apparently the batteries might even interchange with minimal modification .

I absolutely hate going to Walmart. The customer service is terrible in my area. I wouldn’t even consider buying hyper tough items unless I didn’t care about the durability of my tools (which I do) because of the lack of customer service.
John
Walmart delivers for no cost in most areas, sometimes even same day. That’s my method. Never had any issues. Bought a few Hyper Tough tools to try out because they are so inexpensive and for the most part, the tools work well. I have top branded versions of the same types of tools at 3-4 times the cost and the HT versions hold their own just fine.

As an aside if your walmart still has any of the “gift box” hyper tough tool sets on display, check the price with the app – they apparently consider them Christmas items and so got the 50/75/90% markdowns.
Picked up some cleaning drill inserts.

Hikoki or Metabo HPT or Metabo now :-S also make one or two.

No mention of the dB rating anywhere in the specs. That feels telling. I wonder if its that much quieter than a standard premium impact driver.
Patrick T
Torque Test Channel measured it on par with the original surge. 92.3-ish dB. I have the surge. It is MUCH quieter than a normal impact. I think the tone is easier on the ears… it’s a lower sound if that makes sense.
Brad
Maybe this is what happened to the Ridgid hydraulic impact driver that was supposed to have come out in June?

I don’t know if we’re allowed to mention other media channels but a certain torquey Youtube channel has a Test of this. It’s alright, from what I recall. Not good enough for me to buy for pro trade use, as I’m chained to Milwaukee. But good if someone wants a DIY hydraulic driver to not wake the baby
