Western Dovetail Mobile Tool Cabinet First Impressions

Drawers-on-Wheels-Dovetail-Cabinet-Shown-with-Tools

A few months ago, I won a mobile tool cabinet from a Western Dovetail Drawers on Wheels contest. I opted to receive the ready-to-assemble kit rather than the pre-assembled version, and recently put the entire thing together. A full review is in the works, but I’m too excited to wait until then to share a few first impressions.

First, it was ridiculously easy to put together. I did suffer a few scratches and one blood blister, but that’s because there were a few times when I may have hurried along. The finish is perfect, the construction is great, and the quality is superb. For the most part the dovetails were quick and easy to fit together, but the main case required enough malleting (if that’s not a word, it is now!) that I had to throw on a pair of earmuffs.

The tool cabinet is not “perfect”, but it’s leaps and bounds better than the Craftsman and Ikea storage products I’m using now. It may take a bit longer to produce the review, so if you have any questions you would like addressed let me know in a comment and I will try to address it.

As much as I’m satisfied with how heavy-duty the cabinet feels, I am absolutely thrilled at its modification potential. I already have a LOT of ideas about how to “pimp it out”, although I will likely keep the top surface intact since it’s too beautiful to mar!

They’re coming! The tool cart is much larger than the subjects I usually photograph. The pics I have already taken aren’t really publishable due to uneven lighting. A 2nd flash and softbox are on the way to help alleviate that issue.
