What Would You Do With This Giant Wenger Swiss Army Knife?

Giant Wenger Swiss Army Knife

If you had this giant pocket-busting swiss army knife, what would you do with it? Would you put it on display in your home, or whip it out when needed?

Personally, I would never buy a tool like this, simply because there’s no built-in ballpoint pen – I’d expect at least a mini Mont Blanc in a tool like this!

Then there’s the $1000 price tag. You can get a two silver Leatherman Charges for that much dough! Although, $1000 isn’t in the same realm of ridiculousness as this $40,000 Leatherman Wave!

Realistically, it’s hard to imagine that anyone but a collector would spend so much on this. Victorinox’s super-sized swiss army knife is a little more reasonably priced at a fraction of the Wenger’s size.

The only thing usable on it is the watchmaker tools(removable) if I had one I would but it on display in my room. Also speaking of Mont Blancs I knew a guy who modded a smaller SAK with a fountain pen nib.

While the price may be less ridiculous than the Argentum line Leatherman Charge Del Ray, at least one can still utilize the tools on the Charge. I mean seriously how are you supposed to use that saw or those wrenches in the middle of the blasted thing? Really, I think that this thing is more of a proof of concept sort of item. It’s kind of like the 12′ long swords that were produced in some parts of the world—not useful for actual combat, too unwieldy even for ceremonial usage, such an item is more so to display the skill of the maker rather than be useful in any way.

I mean 8 months back when I started putting serious research into the purchase of a multi-tool (I had lost my trusty Juice XE6 due to a too thin belt and had been going about without one for about 8 months) I was really considering either another XE6, a Charge AL, a Charge TTi, or a Surge. I only kept the XE6 under consideration since I liked having a corkscrew and the pocketability (though the flex between the handle when the pliers were being used on something particularly stuck was what put it out of the running). When I actually got to looking at the Charges and the Surge I realized something about the Surge. I realized that its extra weight and bulk were something to take into consideration when using the small bit driver as there was a far higher potential of seriously marring the workpiece (usually pretty delicate if screws that tiny are involved) if I slipped. Bigger wasn’t necessarily better.

Anyway, in short I’d probably just put this giant Swiss Army knife in a plastic display case with a plaque that would jokingly read, “In Case of REALLY Extreme Emergency”. A little humour to make sure that people don’t feel intimidated by my rather sizable Wenger.
