Wiha recently released new screwdrivers based off their SoftFinish cushion grip drivers. These new Measure-Up screwdrivers feature inch and metric measuring scales on the shafts of the drivers. Initially I was skeptical that these new drivers were just another “gimmicky’ tool but I was soon proven wrong, as you will see in the following hands-on review.

The Measure-Up screwdrivers feature Wiha’s SoftFinish cushion grip and chrome vanadium molybdenum steel shafts. The laser shaft etchings are crisp and easy to read. The drivers are available with a standard #2 phillips (31137) or a 5.5mm slotted tip (30237). I ordered the Measure-Up 2 piece set (31194).

The Measure-Up’s are quite handy for quick, small measurements on the go. The scale is 3.5 inches long on the phillips driver and 4 inches on the slotted driver.
I was able to quickly verify hole depth while drilling on a wood project and used the same driver for the attachment screws. On another project I used the Measure-Up to quickly sort out a few 2″ screws that were mixed in a tub with many other sizes.
The scale markings are laser etched and easy to read. The etchings are deep enough to prevent the “rub-off” seen in some surface laser etchings on cheaper tools. The inch scale was adequate for quick measurements, but it lacked graduations on the 1/4 inch.

While these drivers won’t replace a standard ruler or tape measure they do provide quick and easy measurements. The screwdrivers themselves are first-rate, as with all other Wiha tools I’ve used. Adding a simple ruler to a basic, used-all-the-time tool was ingenious of Wiha.

This was a great idea. I can think of a dozen times where this would have come in handy.

For some reason, I thought that this product was discontinued, but I was incorrect as this product is still sold, three years after the initial review.
Since this review was completed by Jeff, not Stuart, I imagine asking what his opinion on this tool, years later would feasible . I wonder after years of service if you can see read the markings on this tool.

Stan,
Almost 3 years and the markings are as crisp today as when I first purchased them which surprised me. The Measure-Ups are not my go-to drivers that see daily use in my shop, but they do see quite a bit of outdoor use.
As a homeowner there’s always some type of outside ‘2 Minute Project’ (wife’s words, not mine) that needs attention. By grabbing these drivers first, I have saved myself many trips back to the shop for a small measuring tool. I can quickly measure screws, nails, holes, and whatever else for these little projects.
