18V Cordless Drill Kits for Every Budget

We get quite a few emails per month asking for cordless drill recommendations. It usually goes like this: I have $xyz to spend on a drill/cordless tool combo. What should I buy? Here are a few solid major brand recommendations for the new year.

Please bear in mind that choosing a cordless drill kit is not a simple task. The right choice depends on budget, intended usage, the types of add-on tools one might want to purchase in the near future, brand loyalty, and this is just the short list.

Under $150 – Porter Cable 18V 4-Tool Kit

Porter Cable 18V Combo Kit 12-2010 RecommendationsWe reviewed the Li-Ion version of this kit some time ago and was pleasantry surprised with is build quality and performance. This Porter Cable kit provides great bang for the buck. You can add a standalone impact driver to the kit for a reasonable price if you think you’ll need one.

$200 – Milwaukee M18 Drill & Impact Driver Li-Ion Kit

Milwaukee 18V Drill Driver Combo 12-2010 RecommendationsThis Milwaukee kit is one of the more affordable Li-ion options available and has proven to be extremely popular. The kit includes a drill, impact driver, and two Li-ion batteries. What’s not to like?

Under $250 – Bosch Drill & Impact Driver Li-Ion Kit

Bosch 18V Drill and Impact Driver Combo 12-2010 RecommendationsWhile slightly harder to find than the other brands’ combos, this drill and impact driver kit offers great specs at a still-affordable price.

Under $300 – Makita Drill & Impact Driver Li-Ion Kit

Makita 18V Drill Driver Combo Kit 12-2010 RecommendationsThis Makita kit has also proved to be extremely popular. These drill/drivers are solidly build and offer top-notch performance. You can usually find the 3-pc kit with a flashlight for about the same price as the 2-pc kit.

Under $300 – Dewalt Drill & Impact Driver Li-Ion Kit

Dewalt 18V Li-Ion Drill Impact Driver Kit 12-2010This Dewalt drill & impact driver combo kit also offers a solid combination of power and size. Dewalt’s Li-Ion tools are backwards compatible with their NiCad ones. It’s not always pretty using NiCad batteries in compact Li-Ion tools or vice-versa, btu that’s the price to pay for cross-platform compatibility.

There are of course many other great options out there, these are just four of the bestselling kits under $300. Please feel free to add your own recommendations in comments.
