Craftsman Nextec Auto-Hammer Revisit

A television commercial promoting the Craftsman Nextec Auto-Hammer has aired recently – no doubt targeting Father’s Day gift shoppers, so we’ve decided to revisit it. Although it may still seem a bit gimmicky, the Auto-Hammer is innovative enough that it deserves the attention.

We first spoke about the Auto-Hammer a few months ago, reflecting that several reviewers were relatively satisfied with the new tool. Since then, several (6) new but somewhat negative customer reviews have cropped up on the Sears.com product page for the tool, and we think that this could be good news.

On one hand, the few added reviews could be a sign that there are no mobs of angry customers out there ready to trade their Auto-Hammers in for pitchforks. However, this could also indicate that the Auto-Hammer is not selling as well as Sears expected, hence the need for a television commercial. But, one must consider that most customers will only post a review if they absolutely love a product, or hate it in the least bit.

Would we recommend the Auto-Hammer? Yes, and no. Yes, because it could definitely be of use in tight situations and by those who lack the desire or physical ability to wield a standard hammer in certain scenarios. No, because many people might over-expect from the Auto-Hammer and may ultimately be disappointed by its abilities, or lack thereof. If you recall, the Auto-Hammer did not fare too well in driving larger and longer nails.

Our advice – if you’re interested in the Auto-Hammer, go ahead and give it a fair try. If you’re disappointed, well, that’s why Sears has a satisfaction guaranteed or your money back policy.

I’m surprised there is no Toolguyd post about the new Ryobi auto hammer yet

    Home Depot Link

    Here is the Ryobi link.

There’s a very simple explanation for that – we were completely oblivious and unaware that Ryobi’s version even existed!

There is no press release as of yet, and we have not seen the tool in stores.

    Thanks for the heads-up!
