5 Reasons to Buy this Dewalt ToughCase Parts Organizer

Dewalt ToughCase DWAN2190 Closed

Over at Amazon, they have this medium-sized Dewalt ToughCase parts and accessories organizer, DWAN2190, for $7. You should definitely consider buying one. Here’s why.

1. High Storage Density

You can cram a lot of power tool accessories into this case. Carrying one accessory case around is more convenient than a couple of smaller cases that might also be filled with stuff you don’t need or use.

2. It’s Customizable

Need to store longer bits or blades? Remove some of the adjustable dividers. The compartments are also larger than the ToughCase boxes I bought quite a few years ago, and there are fewer steps needed to access these compartments.

3. It’s Versatile

Do you see those dovetail tabs that line the perimeter of the case and on both sides of the middle divider? It looks like you can pop Dewalt and Craftsman bit holders right in there, so you can mix up how this case is used.

4. It’s Got a Clear Lid

Some accessory sets come with small cases that have clear lids, others are in double-sided clamshell cases that are poorly identified. With some of my accessory cases, I need to open a couple until I find what I’m looking for.

5. They Stack Together

That’s convenient, isn’t it?

I would much rather have a couple of these cases stacked together than several bulky cases of different sizes and shapes.

Bonus: Who Says You Only Have to Use it With Power Tool Accessories

I just realized that I could probably use this for some small parts that I’ve been trying to sort away recently. They fill a couple of small organizers I have, but very inefficiently, and one or two of these might just do the trick. If I want to sort more parts with them, it’ll all stack together nicely so I can move them together.

Price: $6.98

I can never remember which Dewalt system is which, so it’s hard to tell if this works with what my friend has.

The bit holders from the other Dewalt Tough Cases fit in these too. I may be using them in such a fashion already.

Some might not, such as the larger spade bit holders, but it looks like the smaller ones from newer ToughCases should.

I used the newer bit holders to put my spade bits in one of these.

I can’t find it now, but I saw an image of a drill bit set that tool up the entire span of a medium, case, and without that middle barrier you can’t fit any smaller bit holders at all.

I wish Dewalt made some sort of universal drill bit holder inserts for their tough cases, I’ve had to drill out some hex bit holders and modify the standard drill bit holders for some of my drill bits to get in these cases.

I agree the nomenclature on the different storage systems gets confusing. T-stack, tough system, tough case to name a few. And that’s just for DeWalt alone. And then the other SBD brands have some of their own systems that may or may not interchange.

I thought at first these were the half width tough system 2.0 boxes. They are not. Tho they look like a decent box to store bits and maybe a few sockets in if you don’t mind them loose. I dont.

Ive never been a fan of the dewalt bit holders Ben mentioned. The strips that would fit in those dove tails. Ok removing the bits but they are a pain to get the bit back into. Maybe there’s a trick to it or something but I haven’t figured it out.

Anyone recommend another brand that has simmilar strips that are easier to use?

You might try the Bosch custom cases. It’s certainly easier to remove the strips. Bosch does sell empty cases, but not empty strips. Also note that the cases are smaller, and don’t lock together.

Although I like the Bosch case, since these DeWalts are just a bit more, I think I’ll pick up a few.

Dewalt has a new style the last year or two where the bits angle and lock in differently. Worth looking at again if you haven’t bought them in a few years.

You can also stack them with Dewalt t-stak and Craftsman versastak systems.

I believe that two Medium parts cases mate to a Large parts case which can then mate with Dewalt TStak or Craftsman Versastack. I don’t think these Medium cases mate directly to TStak/Versastack. But ultimately yes, you can use them with those systems.

I have had trouble actually finding a Large parts case. There is a CRAFTSMAN 85-Piece Steel Shank Screwdriver Bit Set at Lowes that shows online as being in a Large case. A couple years ago I went to get one and it was packaged in two Medium cases instead. I will have to take another look.

Oh, and Lowes currently has these Dewalt Medium cases for the same price of $6.98.

You are correct that these only mount to the other toughcase but not to tstack. Craftsman had a kit which was two medium cases and then put the same bits in a single large case and kept the SKU the same. Very confusing. Seems to have stabilized and now the large case version is widely available.
The large craftsman 85 piece kit is on clearance at lowes right now. (Search “craftsman 85”) the DeWalt large case was briefly available at my store but hasn’t been for months.

These are great. I bought some a while back. Do we know when/where the tough case+ large size is?

I have tons of these, both for tools and for electronics parts. They are great for bits, but problematic for anything smaller or flat. The bottom surface of the case has a lot of different levels and the dividers don’t touch at the top or bottom so little stuff just wanders wherever. I have okay-ish luck using it for tiny SD cards but the case always stays flat in a drawer. I still wish there was a commercially available jigsaw and sawzall blade insert for toughcase…

Yes, I have a link to Zoro in the post. The MSRP is $7, I don’t know why it’s lower at Zoro ($5.25), or how long it’ll last.

        Yes.

Zoro is like Grainger, but lower pricing for those of us without commercial accounts.

What ever happen to the Dewalt tough case system accessories they announced a year ago. I’m still waiting for the large case accessories that can clip on the medium and small cases.

Has anyone had luck finding good inserts for these new Toughcase+ cases? I tried some 3D printed ones, but they don’t seem to have grip on the bits that you’d want to keep the bits from falling out.
