Hippo on a Rubbermaid Utility Cart

I saw this on Rubbermaid’s website and it made me smile.

I can’t tell if the happy baby hippo is sitting on Rubbermaid’s medium 500 lb-rated utility cart, or their large 750 lb-rated cart.

It’s available at Amazon and elsewhere.

So cute!

We have a few of these at work and even with the complete lack of respect any kind of equipment gets around here I have had zero cases of one failing in the past 25 years. For home use I’m guessing they could use it to wheel your body to your grave site.

I’ve used these in non-industrial, but very abusive settings and never killed one without some serious effort. More often than not, wheels get flat spots or tread pulls away and we replace them.

We even took one a few years ago and cut a 3″ hole in the top near the handle side so when we worked with grease/oil/cleaned/whatever, we could squeegee the mess through the hole into a 5gal bucket and dump it without having to turn the cart over and hose the thing.

These carts are Extremely stout. Small block Chevy v8 didn’t break it. Very strong.

The wheels indicate that this is the cart rated at 750 pounds.

I’ve worked with the medium duty carts for 20+ years. Yes, they take a lot of abuse. Only saw one that got damaged. I don’t know how it happened, but one of the fixed casters got bent.

I don’t understand why these Rubbermaid carts cost so much. Is there really $300 worth of FRP in this thing?
