Bosch Utility Knives are Now at Lowe’s

Bosch Utility Knives for USA

I found that Bosch utility knives are now available at Lowe’s – at least online.

This isn’t a big deal, but I found it interesting.

Anytime there are availability shifts at major retailers, there could be significant implications, or it could have little meaning.

Lowe’s in-store hand tool product selection has shifted a lot in recent years. First, Craftsman replaced a bunch of SKUs. Then, ToughBuilt joined the mix. Several Klein models landed in stores and ToughBuilt disappeared.

There were other minor happenings as well – I believe I saw Fiskars there for a stretch.

Some years there are more Kobalt tools, other times less.

At least for now, the Bosch utility knives look to only be available online. Maybe that will change, maybe not.

Maybe this is a test to see if an order for Lowe’s physical stores is justified. There are too many what-ifs.

The only certainty is that there’s now one more source to buy Bosch utility knives online.

This online-only (so far?) launch brings forth more questions. Will Bosch’s new tool storage system also be available at Lowe’s? What about some of the Bosch hand tools that haven’t launched in the USA?

The snap blade model seems expensive at $17, but looks well made. I want to see it in person.

About a year ago there was a two-piece set (H11-14100-1), folding and snap-off knives, on Amazon.com for under $17. Lowe’s may have such a set at some point, at comparable price. The knives are made in China, though.

I really like the retractable kind and could use a new one so I might give that one try.

At that price I’d recommend just getting an Olfa. The blade lock/tensioner is really nice on those, and I find the grip shape is less likely to slip on long cuts (like insulation) versus the style on the Bosch.

Looks nice but I just saw the snap off ones which I might get from them since I also need one.

If my Lowe’s had them at all, they didn’t have them out prominently.

I did run into an endcap display for Flex Stack Pack.

That retractable one looks very similar to my preferred old Dewalt knives. I wonder if it’s the same OEM, or just convergent design (only so many ways to make one of these)

I received an email today from Bosch with one of those countdown timer events. One of those “Something big is coming” advertisements. It seemed to cover appliances and tools. The only new tool I saw was a rear handled circular saw . Yesterday I got a email about new Bosch outdoor power equipment tools including a string trimmer, hedge trimmer and a pole hedge trimmer. Other new tools included a metal shear, a metal nibbler, and a concrete surface grinder. And they had the new expert batteries in that email.
I’m glad to see some new activity with Bosch. But I’ve always thought that Bosch’s advertising was goofy and they should get a new advertising department or contractor.
One last item I noticed online at Lowe’s is they now have a 5 3/8 in. metal saw. But the description on Lowe’s is poor because you wouldn’t know it’s a metal saw without reading the detail

I have the retractable one and I like it better than my assorted Stanleys. I got it off Amazon for cheap.

I have the folding one, they’ve actually been avaliable on Lowe’s website for maybe a year or more, I got mine for something like 50% off during a “Deal Of The Day” around year ago. Super high quality knife, has blade storage and if you like the finish and feel of bosch tools it certainly fits right there in with them. They missed the mark not having it be 1 hand operable though with a flick out design, that alone kills it from being a go to utility knife unfortunately.

Your link to the retractable knife describes it as “folding”. How on earth does that kind of mistake make it onto Lowe’s web page? Does nobody proof read the text?

And the link to the 3pc Set describes it as “Bosch 17.5mm 3 -Blade Folding Retractable Utility Knife with On Tool Blade Storage (with Snap-Off Blade)”. That’s meaningless nonsense which bears no resemblance to the product being sold at all.

I realize that these errors are hardly the end of the world, but small issues like that accumulate against the credibility of a company over time.

I have come to believe that Lowe’s runs a lot of products through a really bad “set and forget” AI filter of some kind.

Ha!…not quite sure whether you are just joking, but you may really be onto something there. For the set of three knives it’s as though some software tool processed the text for the overview of the product being sold, and then generated a nonsense description of a single “super-knife” by merging the defining characteristics of each of the three knives.

And it’s Lowe’s, not Bosch, doing this because these issues aren’t seen on Amazon’s web site.

I have the middle one and the one on the right. Both of them are robust and very handy. I bought them on Amazon after Stuart posted about them 2 years ago.
