All Craftsman Sockets & Wrenches Are Proudly Made In…
I’ve had Craftsman’s 2008 Holiday Tool Preview catalog on my desk for a few months now, but have not quite found the right time to talk about it. Actually, I don’t think that there will ever be a good time to talk about it – it’s not exactly a simple or straightforward issue. The thing […]
ToolGuyd Talks About Crafting Tools
For a few weeks now I’ve been writing a series on crafting tools over at Tamdoll’s Workspace crafting blog. It’s always fun to take a break from my normal thought processes to think and write about tools with a different eye. Following is a list of tool post topics that already went up – I encourage you […]

Need Advice!! What To Do About a Shill??
Here’s the deal – the other day someone left a comment posing as a contractor and spoke great things about a company whose product the post was about. I remember seeing this same exact comment on another forum or blog a few weeks ago, so I did some googling. It appears that someone going by […]
Bosch & Ridgid Slim Grip Small Angle Grinders
I don’t know about you, but except for a chain saw, an angle grinder is about the last thing I want to be more compact and slim. It looks as though I’m in the minority here as both Bosch and Ridgid offer small slim grip angle grinders. Maybe they’re on to something after all.
Craftsman Rewards Program Major Changes
Well, it appears that the Craftsman Rewards Program is undergoing major changes as it is absorbed into the Sears Shop Your Way rewards program. This is both good and bad, depending on how you look at it.
Craftsman to Split from Sears as a Spinoff?
There’s definitely something strange going on between Sears and their Craftsman brand, and I have a feeling that it goes way beyond the recent agreement to sell Craftsman tools at Ace Hardware. Just take a look at the cover of Sears’ 2010-2011 tool catalog – Craftsman tools are missing!
Looking for Gray Tools USA Online Dealer
We’re hoping that you guys could help us out – we’re looking for a USA distributor for Gray Tools. We know that you can find local USA dealers via the Gray Tools website, but we specifically want to source an online dealer. We had already tried asking Gray Tools about this via email, and about the […]
Craftsman & Waterloo Ball Bearing Storage QC: 0 for 3
I recently purchased three Craftsman ball bearing storage products recently, during a decent clearance sale. I’m fairly certain that Waterloo produced these items, but I may be mistaken. Purchased were: two 2-drawer ball bearing intermediate chests, and one 6-drawer Griplatch ball bearing chest. Thus far, I’m less than fully satisfied with all three units.
How to Use a Rotary Tubing or Pipe Cutter
After yesterday’s quick review of a Superior Tools pipe cutter, we received a few inquiries about how to properly use such a cutter. Most if not all rotary tubing and pipe cutters share a similar design. Like a C-clamp, there is always one stationary support, and one adjustable support that is mounted to the end of […]
Lost in Translation – Erem Wire Strippers with “Magic”
Product description and pricing errors are not at all that uncommon on online stores, but some of them are downright amusing. Take, for example, these Erem wire strippers that are claimed to feature magic. That’s right, at the bottom of the list, it clearly says that magic is one of these wire strippers’ main product […]
We’re a “Bit” Disappointed Today
In case you didn’t catch our lame attempt at humor, a particular drill bit issue has created a bit of annoyance for us. It all started about one year ago when we purchased a “G” sized jobbers length twist drill bit for a small project. The project was delayed and put on the backburner, and […]
Five Tell-Tale Signs That You Are a Tool Enthusiast
You may be a tool enthusiast if: You sometimes dream about tools.* Every long distance out of town trip or vacation must include visiting at least one tool shop. You get easily frustrated when you see people misusing the wrong tools for the job. No, slotted screwdrivers are NOT crowbars, and a butterknife is NOT […]
Beware After-Christmas Sales
After seeing lackluster sales flyers and a few horrendous “After Christmas Sales” we decided to post a brief warning. Beware of crafty marketing and tricky advert wordings! The particularly egregious “sale” that prompted this post was an “After Christmas Clearance Sale” that featured the Rockwell Jawhorse. The sale price was $177.75, which reflects a whopping […]

Be Wary of Opportunists & Thieves!
Wantedabiggergarage, a frequent ToolGuyd reader and commentor, and GarageJournal forum member, was recently the victim of a theft and asked us to share his experience with you to serve as a warning. Be aware that thieves are also “holiday shopping” and are looking to take advantage of the distractions that this time of year brings about. Had […]

This is the Story of a Screw
With all this talk of the world’s smallest snowman, I’ve decided to show you a few of the electron micrographs that I’ve taken of a #2-56 machine screw. A few weeks ago, to better familiarize myself with a new scanning electron microscope, I had decided to take a look at a machine screw before moving […]
