Holiday Tool Gift Guide – What We’re Giving

Dec 21, 2009 Stuart 5 Comments

We recently posted our suggested Holiday Gift Guide, and before that we predicted which tools will sell very well during this holiday shopping season. Today, we’ll tell you about three of the tools that we are gifting to friends and family this year.

MVT – Hand Impact Tool

Dec 21, 2009 Stuart 8 Comments

Our fourth and final featured “Most Valuable Tool of the Week Contest” entry is for a hand impact tool. These tools can be used to manually free frozen, rusted, or other such stubborn or stuck fasteners. This is what 2WYKD had to say about the tool: Maybe I think this is the most valuable because […]

Leatherman Wave Multitool + Monarch Flashlight $49

Dec 18, 2009 Stuart 2 Comments

As part of Amazon’s Friday Sale, the Leatherman Wave multitool and Monarch 300 LED flashlight combo is on sale for $48.36. We’re huge fans of the LM Wave, and while we haven’t heard stupendous things about the new Monarchs, it seems to be a decent AAA torch. Typically the Wave is priced at ~$65, and […]

Cruelest & Costliest Tool Ever!!

Dec 17, 2009 Stuart 6 Comments

I was browsing for tools recently and came across an Estwing axe over at Sears’ website. Behold, the Fireside Friend Splitting Tool! Great for splitting those friends that never return borrowed tools!

HK1 Hydrokinetic Adjustable Wrench

Dec 14, 2009 Stuart 11 Comments

The Expedition Tools HK1 Hydrokinetic Adjustable Wrench is a rather intriguing tool that has recently caught our attention. Normally we’re quite wary of unconventional tools, especially those claiming to be “all-in-0ne” solutions, but it looks like the Hydrokinetic Wrench deserves a closer look.

Gearwrench Tool Wall at Advance Auto Parts

Dec 3, 2009 Stuart 5 Comments

I stopped by Advance Auto the other day and noticed a rather prominent and huge Gearwrench tool display. Screwdrivers, sockets, pliers, ratchets and adapters, sets, oh my! I believe I also saw a “Danaher Tools” banner in a corner of the store window as I walked in, so perhaps additional Danaher tool lines will soon be carried by Advance.

Grip-on Self Leveling Jaw Locking Pliers

Nov 25, 2009 Stuart 2 Comments

These Grip-on 233-10 self leveling jaw locking pliers can be used on materials up to 1-3/4″ thick. Because of their pivoting jaw pads, these pliers can be used to clamp flat or tapered surfaces. These pliers are intended to be used in workspaces too small for C clamps, spring clamps, quick bar clamps, and even Vise-Grip […]

Rockwell Jawhorse Impressions

Nov 24, 2009 Stuart 3 Comments

Since the Rockwell Jawhorse it is now being actively promoted at Lowes stores, we decided to take a closer look at it. With its wide jaws and 600-lb holding capacity, the Jawhorse looks like it would make an excellent work-holding clamp. Over the weekend, we spotted a Jawhorse in action at Lowes, where two associates were […]

Most Valuable Tool – Wright Flex-Head Ratchet

Nov 20, 2009 Stuart 4 Comments

For our Most Valuable Tool of the Week Contest, we are featuring four reader-nominated tools, one per week. This week’s featured MVT is GoodFellow’s Wright flex-head ratchet. GoodFellow had the following to say about the tool: Clearly one of the best tools I’ve come across is the Wright 3440 3/8″ flex-head ratchet. It has a 1/4″ drive […]

Grip-on ErgoGrip Locking Pliers

Nov 19, 2009 Stuart 10 Comments

Grip-on’s 727-08 ErgoGrip locking pliers sure are a strange a sight with its right-angle pistol-grip design. With a 70-degree angled design, these pliers are intended to reduce hand strain and fatigue, and are ideal for use in confined spaces. They are also claimed to exert for up to 50% more force in twisting applications. Proto […]

Kershaw E.T. External Toggle Knife

Nov 16, 2009 Stuart 2 Comments

Kershaw’s E.T. external toggle knife is one sleek looking blade. Relatively lightweight at 3.7 ounces, the E.T. features a 6061-T6 anodized aluminum handle, and 3-1/4″ Sandvik 13C26 stainless steel blade with a bead-blasted finish. These are decent specs, but what really sets this knife apart from ordinary pocket folders is its unique toggle mechanism.

The first ever MVT (most valuable tool of the week) award is actually shared by two tools – a Wiha ergonomic screwdriver, and a 4oz Vaughan ball pein hammer.

C.H. Hanson Precision Ball Level Review

Nov 10, 2009 Stuart 16 Comments

Two months ago to the date, we shared with you our very positive first impressions of C.H. Hanson’s Precision Ball Level. Since then, we have used the level quite a bit for various projects and tasks, and not only has it not disappointed us yet, it has exceeded our most demanding expectations. Following is our […]

Yankee Screwdriver

Nov 5, 2009 Stuart Discuss

If you saw the title of this post and thought that we were going to talk about a traditional push-pull screwdriver, then we’re sorry to disappoint you. The New York Yankees just won the World Series, so we took it upon ourselves to mention a few Yankee-inspired tools, the first of which is a multi-bit […]

Ryobi Auto Hammer vs. Craftsman Hammerhead

Nov 3, 2009 Stuart 15 Comments

Update: Since writing this post, we have published a hands-on review of Ryobi’s Auto Hammer – click here to check it out. At first glance, Ryobi’s 12V ONE+ Auto Hammer closely resembles Craftsman’s 12V NEXTEC Lithium-ion powered Hammerhead Auto Hammer. Well, looking at the specs, the two cordless hammers are far more similar than they are different […]

Grobet Plastic Tweezers

Oct 30, 2009 Stuart 5 Comments

Tweezers are one of those tools that you don’t realize you need until you NEED one. While these Grobet plastic tweezers won’t replace anyone’s Swiss-made precision-tipped steel tweezers, they’re great to use in a pinch and are essentially disposable. Plastic tweezers are also good to use when steel tweezers might damage a delicate part, or when […]

Digital Adjustable Wrench Torque Wrench

Oct 23, 2009 Stuart 9 Comments

There are times when a tool leaves us absolutely speechless, and this is almost one of those times. Behold, a digital adjustable wrench which gives torque readings. We would scream “cheesy gimmick” at the top of our lungs if not for the attention-grabbing $395 pricetag. Surely this cannot simply be an overpriced gimmick tool, right? […]
