Craftsman Fluorescent Shop Work Light

Craftsman’s new fluorescent shop light is a 42″ corded fixture that attaches to metal surfaces, such as heavy duty steel pegboard. It features a bright 25-watt bulb, easy-access on/off switch, adjustable magnetic clips, and long 25-foot power cord.

It’s hard to tell whether this is intended for overhead lighting or task lighting applications, but to me it seems better suited for portable use.

Retail price is $40, which seems reasonable.

I believe that, with a 42″ length, the fixture takes a 25W 3-ft bulb, which should be easy to find should you need a replacement. The 25-ft power cord is definitely a plus, but just having magnetic clips might be a limitation. Judging by the photo, it should be possible to easily fabricate adjustable wall-mounting clips.

I’ve been looking for a under cabinet light that didn’t require permanent installation. This one just might work.

I like that the front of the light is covered so the light doesnt shine directly at me. I cant stand light directed at my face.

I like the idea of a light shining down from the top of my 42″ toolbox. Not quite sure this is tough enough for it but if it goes on sale, it might be worth trying out.
