We just checked Sears.com and saw that the new Craftsman Nextec 4 piece drill/driver, saw, sander, flashlight combo set has been added to their product catalog. The kit is scheduled for release on May 1st 2010, and is available for pre-order at $170.

It’s on sale right now for $161.49. I hope they will be selling the circular saw as a stand-alone kit. Personally, I wouldn’t have much use for the sander, drill, or flashlight. I definitely would get some use out of that little circular saw though. I currently have the Nextec Multi-Saw and I love it. I use it almost everyday. I do wish it had trigger controlled variable speed.

Since the combo set release is still a few months away, I would recommend waiting for a “friend and family” type 10% off or better sale. Also, coupon code SEARS5OFF50 should still apply for an extra $5 off.
I also imagine that this set will be very heavily promoted around Father’s Day, and that the saw might be available separately as a standalone add-on.

Hey indyengineer – what are you using the multisaw for, and how do you like the battery life?

I use the multisaw for cutting plumbing pipes, copper and PVC. It cuts through both like butter. I have also used it a few times to cut into drywall. For my purpose, it has great battery life. I did pick up an extra battery when I bought the kit, but I never have had to use it. I make an average of a couple dozen cuts a day with it. I guess that’s not enough to drain the battery. I always charge the battery at the end of the day.

it’s good to hear you’re happy with it. I’m surprised to hear that it cuts through copper so easily. Can you use the same blade for both?

Yeah, I’m definitely happy with it. It makes my job a whole heck of a lot easier. Going from a hacksaw to my Nextec saw reminds me of the days when I went from using a screwdriver to a cordless drill…LOL
I use a Lenox 6″–14TPI bi-metal multi-material blade with a raker tooth design. It works great on copper and PVC. For drywall, I use a Lenox 6″–6TPI bi-directional blade.

for some reason I thought you were talking about the oscillating multitool, not the multisaw. I was totally off. That’s why I was surprised that it cut through copper. I can see how the multisaw would cut through metal pretty easily.

LOL…After re-reading all the posted replies, I can see how you got confused. Now you have me wondering if the Multi-Tool could cut copper pipe. If someone has one, I would like to know what kinds of things they cut with it too.
