Rotring 800 Mechanical Pencil

Wayne wrote in with a tip that the Rotring 800+ mechanical pencil + stylus is on sale on Amazon at a pretty good discount. Both black and silver-finish versions are on sale in 0.5 mm lead sizing, and black-finish in 0.7 mm.

I’m not very familiar with the Rotring 800, but my experiences with a Rotring 600 have been quite positive so far.

The Rotring 800+ features a hexagonal metal body, a “twist and click” tip retraction mechanism, and a precision stylus tip that’s said to be compatible with all capacitive touchscreen devices.

Price: ~$35-37

I can’t tell if this is a deal of the day, or if not when the deal will end.

Thank you to Wayne for the heads-up!

I have a number of pens with then “stylus tip” rubber item on the tip that the pen comes though. While they do work they aren’t what I would call precise and often come off or tear over time. Granted they are cheap pens.

Question would be if that tip were replaceable. I expect the rest of the rotaring pencil to hold up well over time like my current 600 does.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind having something about the size of an 0.9 or 0.7mm lead as the stylus tip. IE yes carry another “pencil” in my pocket or on my desk to use as a precision stylus when needed. Might be a different market item.

These are pretty good pencils. The 800 series is their top of the line. The entire tip and sleeve is retractable, so it is pocket-safe. The barrel is solid aluminum, so it’s a little heavy for writing, but great for drafting. The 800+ series has a stylus tip instead of an eraser. I don’t find it useful, but you might.

The stylus nub surrounds the retracted tip – the “eraser end” still has the enclosed eraser. Or, when the writing tip is retracted, the end’s a little bit padded by the stylus tip.

Which is way better than the stabby end of the 600.

Ah, thanks for the correction. I’ve only use the 800 models.

I also have an 800, the retractable tip is a must for pocket use. I don’t use my 600 much because of the tip pokes holes in my pockets and/or legs. The stylus may be useful for some, but I didn’t need it.
