Dewalt DCK940D2 20V Max Cordless Combo Kit

Over at Home Depot, today’s deal of the day is this Dewalt DCK940D2 20V Max cordless power tool combo kit, for $499.

This is an online-only Black Friday 2015 deal.

The combo kit comes with:

  • DCD771 Drill/Driver (Compare Price)
  • DCF885 Impact Driver (Compare Price)
  • DCS381 Reciprocating Saw
  • DCS393 Circular Saw
  • DCS355 Brushless Oscillating Multi-Tool (Compare Price)
  • DCL040 LED Worklight (Compare Price)
  • DCG412 Angle Grinder (Compare Price)
  • DCR006 Bluetooth Speaker (Compare Price)
  • DCD740 Right Angle Drill (Compare Price)
  • 2x 2.0Ah Li-ion Battery Packs
  • Standard Charger
  • Tool Bags

Here’s what you need to know before you buy this set on impulse:

This set (DCK940D2) doesn’t seem to have existed before today. It seems to have been put together specially for this Black Friday deal, and maybe it’ll return later on in the holiday shopping season.

The drill is Dewalt’s basic holiday sales model. That’s not bad, but you’re not getting their better cordless drill with this combo. The impact driver, saws, oscillating tool, right angle drill, and other accessories appear to be standard models.

The saws are Dewalt’s combo kit models, but not their more premium offerings that have more features or higher cost parts. For instance, this circular saw doesn’t have a magnesium base, and the reciprocating saw doesn’t have the full 4-position blade clamp as the premium model.

This is a great deal for $499. Actually, it’s fantastic. Even if you eventually plan to upgrade the drill, or don’t need one of the saws, this is a great price for all that you get.

Buy Now(via Home Depot)

Reminder: Coupon code HDHOLIDAY takes $5 off $50+ orders, thru 12/3/2015.

Don’t forget to buy more batteries! A 2-pack of 3Ah, 4Ah, or 5Ah batteries will cost you $99 to $159 via Amazon (and elsewhere).

Thank you to Gregory for the tip!

Every once in awhile deals come along too good to be true. When something is too good to be true, it usually is. That’s the case here. Dewalt’s DCK940D2 was NOT on sale for $499 online thru Home Depot, so you missed nothing if just discovering this “deal”. Unfortunately, I only discovered this after spending MUCH time on the phone with various Home Depot departments trying to track this deal down. If this was actually a deal somewhere else please let us know, but it wasn’t at Lowe’s or Sear’s either.

It’s now $899, so how could $499 not be a deal or sale price?

My thoughts are that Dewalt and Home Depot put the combo together to sell at the one-day deal price of $499.

This wouldn’t be my choice if I had $900 to spend, but I do think it offers great value at $499.

It’s a moot point now, the deal ended Friday.

Back up to $699 CDN now… but yes this was an online-only black friday deal/link, and not advertised in the regular black friday flyer.
I half expected to get an email saying they had made a mistake and could not honor the price/etc, but it shipped today!

Stuart, I agree – $499 would have been a heck of a deal. The problem was NO such deal existed! It was NOT the deal of the day, nor any black Friday special. I’m not sure where the info on this “deal” came from, but it never existed I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with numerous Home Depot departments, double checked and verified by having a pal follow up, and had this product researched back over 30 days (Depot hasn’t offered ANY price even close to $499 in the last month). So persistent was I, they even researched inventory pricing records to see if a “display” model could have sold at that price in a single store. Nope. It’s important because buyers will wait for duplicate deals, or deals close to $499. Btw, I also checked Lowes and Sear’s and they weren’t offering the deal either. Thus, “too good to be true”. I’ll save you some time verifying what I’ve posted though. Depot’s “online marketing department (where they can research back at least a year of deals by model or sku#) phone number is 1-800-430-3376. The 800-HOMEDEPOT # can’t research much

I’m sorry for the trouble you had with this.

Right at the top of this post, I did say: This is an online-only Black Friday 2015 deal.

If you followed the link on Friday, when the deal was live, you would have seen the sale price, and a big product not sold in stores notice or similar. Right now that’s what it said, and I’m sure it said something similar on Friday.

I’m not surprised that nobody at Home Depot knew about the deal.

I found out about the deal by checking Home Depot’s special buy of the day link, which I try to do early every day during the holiday season and periodically other times of year.

Past experiences have told me that a Home Depot “Deal of the Day” probably won’t return until the next season. Maybe they’ll repeat this deal again, probably not. Last year, there were plenty of one-off daily deals that never returned a second time during the holiday season.

I also said this in my post: This set (DCK940D2) doesn’t seem to have existed before today. It seems to have been put together specially for this Black Friday deal.

I couldn’t find any record of this combo kit existing before the promo offer went live. Or if it did exist, it’s a Home Depot exclusive or first-dibs product.

Just google the model number – DCK940D2 and you’ll see the same.

I stand corrected – the Editors were right about the Home Depot deal. After a THIRD call to their web resource center, an operator acknowledged that the deal WAS offered at $499. I tried to get them to honor it but they refused. I’m not surprised. They gave me the runaround. First they told me it didn’t exist (twice) , then they told me it was sold out (by 9:00 am) , then they offered me
20 % off the set. I explained I’d already ordered higher quality Dewalt tools, some being the same type of tool (ex. Circular saw without stamped metal parts) so I declined 20%. What upsets me is the fact that they had a record via 800 numbers and potentially recording/record of calls that showed I’d been trying to find this deal for days, it was their lack of knowledge which caused me to miss it, and they STILL couldn’t or wouldn’t make this transaction. Poor customer service, poor employee training, and just dishonest. If it was “sold out” how could they sell me one 20% off? He claimed numbers allotted, but that was a story he adopted AFTER I questioned him. I cancelled my order for tools I’d already bought. Depot values neither my time or money.

Update – Home Depot is researching the issue I’ve been having and say they’ll get back to me tonight to resolve the issue finally. This isn’t open heart surgery, no lives are lost over the issue and it’s just a tool(s). That said, my experiences with Home Depot have always been great so I was completely shocked that they seem to have dropped the ball so badly here. And, when called to task, they didn’t fix the problem. It’s a new experience for me with them, one which I hope was a unique anomoly?
