Dewalt 20V Max XR Premium Oscillating Multi-Tool Kit DCS356D1

The Dewalt 20V Max XR cordless oscillating multi-tool kit is on sale once again for $129 at Amazon.

There are two other holiday deals on Dewalt cordless oscillating multi-tools right now, and this one is better than both of them.

Update: Amazon sold out, but you can still get it at Acme Tools, link below.

DCS356D1 Kit – $129 at Amazon

Dewalt DCS356C1 and DCS356D1 Cordless Oscillating Multi-Tool Kits

So why buy this kit for $129 when the same brushless OMT is featured in a $99 special buy? Well, it comes with a better battery – 2Ah compared to 1.3Ah – more cutting and sanding accessories to start out with, a sturdy box to hold the attachments and blades, and a depth guide that can be pricey to purchase separately.

You get a lot more for just $30 extra.

Dewalt DCS354D1 Oscillating Multi-Tool Kit

The Atomic series kit, DCS354D1, has the same better battery, but the XR tool has additional speed control feature. The Atomic kit is pretty basic.

If you were thinking of buying a Dewalt 20V Max brushless oscillating multi-tool kit, get the DCS356D1 kit unless you absolutely cannot budget over $99. The premium kit always tends to be a very limited-time offer.

Think it over, but think fast.

The depth guide is well-designed and VERY useful! If possible, I strongly recommend getting this $129 XR kit which includes it over the $99 XR kit.

Similarly, I consider the 3-speed limiter switch (you can also feather the trigger but that gets old fast) on the XR to be essential, so I wouldn’t consider the atomic version at any price. I had one and replaced it with an XR for that reason.

I totally agree about the kit and the depth guide. I have the older model XR that does not have the 3-speed control, DCS355, which I purchased with this same kit configuration. It’s awesome all around. Blade change is incredibly fast and easy. The roller guide and sanding attachments are both useful. The box they include for storing the blade guide & extra parts is surprisingly nice quality and very sturdy.
In my opinion it’s a killer deal for $129.

      Exactly!

I was hoping to see this deal tomorrow, but when I checked this morning and saw it’s part of Amazon’s Thanksgiving day deals, I had to get the writeup quickly in case it sells out or ends by then.

This always tends to be a limited-time deal of the day promo.

It’s $30 more than the holiday season special buys, but I feel you get a lot more than that in added value. The $99 promos are good, but this one is much better.

Just in case people want to add a depth stop to their DeWalt OMT, there are three separate parts: N278801 (screw knob), N275341 (depth setting rod), and N275350 (mounting block). For some reason the OEM parts are not sold as a kit in the US, it looks like, though there are knockoff kits available.

It seems to fit all DeWalt OMTs, including the Xtreme. It mounts on the two holes you can see in the pictures, above the blade mount.

If it were me (and it IS me), I’d just get the mounting block and improvise a rod and screw knob. It’s a #8-36 thread.

I got this kit last year when Stuart brought it to our attention.
Day in and day out, the best best “bonus” feature of the kit has been the case, keeping everything associated with the OMT together. The battery “upgrade”didn’t matter much. I rarely turn to the 2AH battery as I hook up the OMT to the compact Powerstack battery. Only if the Powerstack is exhausted in a task do I then go to the 2 AH, which is not often.

This was a deal POST from around Black Friday that was repeated in December.

You also just missed a Prime Day deal. https://toolguyd.com/dewalt-xr-cordless-oscillating-tool-kit-prime-day-deal-2025/

Many retailers have the basic kit for $99 right now – https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-Oscillating-Tool-3-Speed-DCS356C1/dp/B085B253MD/?tag=toolguyd-20 .

I don’t expect to see the premium kit discounted again until Black Friday or Cyber Monday, but maybe it’ll be on sale again for October Prime Day if there is one.
