Dewalt PowerStack Battery Deal DCBP320-2

It looks like I stumbled across incredibly good pricing on a 2-pack of Dewalt PowerStack 3.5Ah batteries.

This Dewalt XR series 20V Max cordless power tool battery features pouch-cell batteries and sits in between the compact 1.7Ah and larger 5Ah PowerStack pouch cell Li-ion batteries with respect to size and runtime.

The battery launched a year ago at $169 each or 2 for $249, and the price has since increased to $189 each or 2 for $299. Home Depot has it at 2 for $179 at the time of this posting.

In another recent post, we’re talking about the pricing of Dewalt’s new cordless grinders, and a reader (thanks, Will!) says:

the 4″ kit includes two 3.5 powerstack. For some reason those are priced to the moon.

I looked up the price – Home Depot has a 2-pack of these batteries, DCBP320-2, for $179. (2) of these PowerStack 3.5Ah batteries for $179 seems like a pretty good price. So what are they talking about?

I haven’t been keeping track of Dewalt battery prices, and so I started searching around, and saw the price was $189 each. Other retailers have the 2-pack priced at $299.

This cleared things up. $189 for (1), and I’m seeing $179 for (2). I’m sorry Will, for not getting it, but I do now!

Here’s a screen capture of what I’m seeing. I’m also seeing a low doubled-digit inventory count.

Not even Amazon is matching this pricing – they have the 2-pack for $212.28 at the time of this posting.

It’s not clear what’s going on with the PowerStack 5ah – a couple of retailers seem to have been clearing out huge inventory numbers, and I’ve seen reports of old manufacturing dates.

Mine only lasted about 3 months. With minimal use. Date on battery was 2023! Bought in 2025. Highly disappointed!!
Charges, shows full charge, put it in a tool. Runs it for maybe 2 minutes and shuts off. Still showing full charge. Doesn’t matter the tool. Same thing every time.
Won’t buy power stack any more, for sure!!

        Peace!

Me as well. Not bad, but not a screaming deal.

I clicked the link possibly not long after Stuart posted – then & now I got $212 also. I switched stores to check as I am about equal distance from a coastal NH store and a somewhat coastal Maine store. I would have certainly moved on the lower deal. Also the comment about the 5ah batteries getting cleared out – when I bought the first round of clearance at Lowe’s I believe the manufacturer date was 2022

I’m now seeing $179 or $212 depending on which computer I’m checking from.

Hey Stuart, the Home Depot price is the same as Amazon in my region. This looks like a neat, compact battery. Dewalt must be proud of it, based on the price.

Quick follow up with math: For $10 LESS…..two 20V 5Ah batteries provide about 43% more watt-hours than two 20V 3.5Ah batteries.

Yeah the deal at my Home Depot is better than that online sale.

5ah batteries can be found on sale in the 50-60.00 range fairly often. The Powerpack and Powerstack batteries are much higher performance than the old 5ah, so it’s not really a good comparison. The old 5ah are one of the best value batteries available, but not high performance.

Are you referring to this deal featuring the non-XR 5Ah batteries?

That’s like comparing a pound of ground hamburger meat to a 4oz cut of tenderloin.

Another deal to consider is 5ah + charger for $95 at Amazon. Not a sketchy third party seller. Based on the reviews, Amazon seems to be selling old stock.

I did a search to see if this was an HD deal or everywhere, and if there were 5 ah deals.

I found and AI response about Powerstack batteries. It stated many users like them but there were concerns under heavy load of having issues, without being specifics on the issues.

I have a pair of 1.7’s and have been satisfied. 1.7;s, being small are great for impacts and drills, so typically won’t see heavy loads Anyone else have issues under heavy use or heard about such instances? Stuart, possibly the problem you mention above about the 5ah?

I haven’t heard of any major problems. More precisely, I should say that I haven’t heard anything concerning. It’s difficult to sort out the valid complaints from the less reasonable ones. For example, I see complaints about the compact 1.7Ah battery and how it delivers poor runtime in high-drain continuous-use tools.
