Still want the 40v leaf blower. It is too much money here.

    Love my 40v string trimmer.

Hope they do not abandon it. Never see it promoted anymore. Dewalt is bad for this. However i will give credit. They still support 18v nicd

40V Max continues to be targeted towards pro users and landscapers. 20V Max and FlexVolt is more aimed at casual users who might have already bought into those battery platforms.

My nephew was having trouble starting my old Stihl trimmer when he cut the grass for me. I picked up one of the Flexvolt trimmers and an extra battery and I have to say I’m fairly impressed with it. You’re not going to cut the back 40 with it but for a typical house and yard, it’s more than adequate.

Did you see the Ryobi hybrid soldering station? They took down the page already but it kind of looked neat and also dangerous.

“Neat” and “dangerous”? Good words to describe a soldering station!
Maybe they were testing the comedy waters?

Yes, but the page went down quickly. It also didn’t look all that exciting to me.

Depends for what use – for professional ELECTRICAL contractors, no.

But for doing electronic work, possibly (depending on tip availability) because it has a smaller handle and variable temperature (which is pretty much a necessity to handle leaded and lead-free solder (which is available in different varieties, with different optimal temperatures))

HD seems to do that often with some new Ryobi items. I wonder if they (or a Ryobi – HD rep) post these – them when the website administrator realizes that a new item (for which there is no stock yet) has been posted it gets pulled down.

I have 20V blower and trimmer, 40v chainsaw and hedge trimmer. They all perform extremely well. I use Flexvolt batteries on the 20v stuff and they run forever.

Would having a dedicated 60v be that much of an improvement for me to invest all that extra money?

Have you ever wished for your 20V Max blower and trimmer to be more powerful?

I believe that 40V Max and 60V Max (FlexVolt are pretty comparable in terms of power. I wouldn’t move from 40V to FlexVolt unless you really wanted to be on one system. But if you want more from a blower or trimmer, then you might want to consider upgrading from 20V Max to 40V Max or FlexVolt.

If you need a lawnmower on the same platform it’s not exactly a stretch. DeWalt really dropped the ball with their mower.

So far I have to agree. I currently own a Dewalt 40v string trimmer, their 60v max 16″ chainsaw and the 60v max leaf blower. The 40v string trimmer was my first electric OPE purchase before Dewalt released their 60v volt line. While I have no complaints about any of these purchases and they do all perform well for me, Dewalt has left me wanting more from their OPE line of equipment. By that I mean their line is incomplete with some noticeable holes in their offerings. Dewalt lacks an edger and a multi-attachment system like the Multi-Head system EGO offers. EGOs Multi-Head system offers four different attachments; string trimmer, edger, chainsaw and hedge trimmer. This system also offers an extension pole for a longer reach. I currently own the Multi-Head system as well as their carbon fiber string trimmer. It’s not that the Dewalt stuff is bad, it just seems EGO is a more complete line and I feel they are more progressive in their offering and a bit more innovative. Perhaps the most glaring example is the stark contrast between the two on their line of mowers. So far I have been hard pressed to find favorable reviews of the Dewalt mowers, in either the 20 volt or 40 volt line and most of the negative comments center on a deplorable run time. Yet almost all of the EGO mower reviews are positive. Also Dewalt does not offer a 60v version of their mower and I can’t be sure that they will or that it will be much better than their current offerings.

I should also point out that the main reason a bought the EGO carbon fiber string trimmer was to get their PowerLoad feature which self loads the string with the press of a button. Now that’s innovation and I love it.

The 40v stuff was kinda created before the flex volt, and probably followed up a slightly different development path.
As far as supporting the 40, I don’t think it’s a wise investment, but alienating those 40 users would be a bad move. What they might want to consider is an adapter which allows them to use two 20v batteries.

My guess is you will love it as I do mine. Fortunately you have the holiday season coming up and there will probably be more sales ahead. Good luck.

I need to chop down two trees at the house. My problem is spending $220 on a 60v and doing my task and then never, ever needing it again….
