Dewalt Hand Tool Product Line

Dewalt just announced that they are launching their first ever line of hand tools! The new product line includes more than 100 professional-grade tools and accessories, and will hit The Home Depot stores and independent distributors beginning in June 2011.

Here are a few types of Dewalt hand tools that you can expect to see in a few short months: utility knives, pliers, wrenches, tape measures, hammers, saws, and toolboxes.

We’ll be discussing a few of the new offerings much more in coming days, so keep in mind to check back. In the meantime, does anyone else get the feeling that Stanley & Proto’s R&D teams may have helped develop the new products? After all, they’re all one big happy family these days.

With Stanley having already put their Bostitch brand (marketed at Lowes) on a bunch of handtools made in Asia – why not add Dewalt. It seems to me not so much a blending of brands as it a marketing ploy to try to broaden their customer base and compete with TTI (Milwaukee brand hand tools) and Newell-Rubbbermaid’s Irwin brand. Maybe it will work as well as having many brands once did for GM – or maybe not (where is Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Saturn today) . One hope is that it will foster some innovation so as to help Stanley distinguish the Dewalt hand tool line from their other brands.

I have a few details about some of their hand tools, the ones Dewalt is calling their 5 most innovative tools, but there’s no complete list available yet. I’m fairly certain that the tools will be imports, but would like for once to be pleasantly surprised.

I don’t think that Dewalt is positioning to take on Milwaukee’s hand tools. Milwaukee’s new releases are all mostly tailored towards electricians and installers, while Dewalt’s are aimed at a more general professional audience.

Although there will inevitably be a few product crossovers and similarities, I think that we’ll see quite a few unique or at least modified/derived designs.

I have to admit that that’s a rather spiffy looking crow/wrecking bar. Although for some reason it does seem a bit silly for them to have that folding hex set.

Whats the warranty on these tools? Even the Dewalt sales rep didn’t know when I asked him. He said out of all his training sessions I was the only guy to ask about these tools. Thanks ToolGuyd!
