Dewalt ToughSystem Tool Box with Handle

Three years after the Dewalt ToughSystem tool tote was announced, the version with a top handle is finally available in the USA.

Previously, it was only available here without a top handle, while both versions – with or without the top handle – were available internationally.

It’s fully compatible with other ToughSystem tool storage products.

I have a ToughSystem tool tote, and it has worked out well over the years, mostly as a catch-all for bulky tools and supplies. I’ve mostly used it by itself, and not with other ToughSystem components, and definitely understood the many questions that came from other ToughSystem users – why doesn’t the USA version have a top handle?!

Well, now it does.

Price: $40

If you don’t need or want the top handle, the older/other version is available for $26-30.

I wonder why we had to wait so long for these if they were available elsewhere.

I’m guessing that the handle is permanently affixed and not removable or movable?

It appears that the handle swivels to the rear, notice the relief cuts in the ribs, also, the latches would be unusable with the handle upright.

It has to fold down so that you can fix another ToughSystem box or accessory on top. I don’t think it’s meant to be removable though.

It’s about time! I bought at least 8 of the ones with out the handles. And I even ordered one with the handle from the UK to see if I could replicate it. I also went as far as to contact Dewalt directly to ask if I could purchase some handles separately but had no luck?

I don’t know if this would be worth the time, but I had a friend who’d made a toolbox with a top handle like this one. He made a plywood box with an open top, then attached a longish dowel to it with rope to act as a handle. Each end of the dowel had two piece of rope extending to the top corners of the box, so the box wouldn’t sway as much when carried. The pieces of rope were long enough that when released, the handle would drop to the side and wouldn’t obstruct the opening. I guess that was easier than building a folding handle.

How does that relate to the tough system stackable folding handle tote ? Did he make it so it could stack onto tough system ?

The handle design idea could be adapted to the non-handle version of the ToughSystem tool tote.

          Yeah, I thought so.

Also, you can build your own stacking tote system. I suppose you could even make it compatible with the Dewalt system.

Not to speak for Koko the Talking Ape (since he can talk for himself, HaHa) , but I think it does relate to the discussion because it brings up that years ago people would make a tool box like this themselves. It was called a carpenter’s tool box. Electricians would also make them with different compartments to put EMT fittings in. Usually the handle was the handle of a 1/2” pipe bender that was inserted through a hole that was on each side / end of the plywood tool box.

That must be some special handle. $26 for the non handle one and $40 for one with. I guess having the DeWalt named imprinted on the plastic box must mean something.
    No thanks….

Cool, but it ain’t red. And I say that from the perspective of a DIY guy who bought into Milwaukee but kind of hates the price of each and every tool…often the bare tools cost more than a kit with batteries from other (very reputable) brands! The tools themselves are fantastic so I have no complaints, but it’s hard to add to the collection. Buying the Packout series of organization could be exponentially more expensive but sometimes I wonder if it’s worth the price! Sorry, I just feel jealous because I see many Dewalt offerings for reasonable prices but am already invested in Milwaukee.
