A buddy of mine was looking for a cheap generic-branded oscillating multi-tool for $35, but I managed to convince him to spring for a reconditioned Dremel instead. No offense to “Genesis” or the other cheaper import tool companies, but I’d place more trust in a reconditioned Dremel than their tools brand new.

This reconditioned Dremel Multi-Max oscillating multi-tool has hovered at around $55 for some time, but has dropped to $50 at select dealers. I typically prefer to buy new tools for personal use, but factory-reconditioned ones can provide substantial savings.

Update: The original offer, for a Dremel Multi-Max oscillating tool for $50, has expired.

These days, the MM30 typically sells for $89, new, and the more premium Dremel oscillating tools often cost more. Depending on when you check, reconditioned Dremel MM20 Multi-Max tools usually still sell for $50 on Amazon, and reconditioned MM30 oscillating multi-tools sell for $60. Pricing and availability varies.

The recon dremel is the one I recommend to my friends too. It offers the perfect balance between price and quality that the Harbor Freight one can’t match.
