Fenix LD20 LED Flashlight

In my search for a new AA LED flashlight, I came across the Fenix LD20. Featuring 4 light levels and 2 strobe settings, this 6″ waterproof T6 aircraft-grade aluminum flashlight looks to be an excellent EDC (every day carry) light. A quick google search brings up many positive reviews.

For those used to buying cheap and nearly disposable flashlights, the Fenix LD20 may seem a bit expensive at $55. But, compared to similarly featured high quality flashlights, $55 is a real bargain.

The Fenix LD20 is well-built, extremely bright, and accepts common AA batteries. Although it can take Alkaline batteries, it performs better with rechargeable cells. We use Eneloops rechargeables in our AA flashlights since they have very low self-drain rates.

What does ‘performs better with rechargeable cells’ mean ? What is your performance measurement that is better ? Thanks

Sorry, maybe I should have clarified.

When using alkaline batteries, the flashlight cannot be used in the highest brightness mode. It flashes to the peak intensity, but then drops back down to a lower setting.

With rechargeable Eneloops or Lithium AA cells, you can use the light at max brightness.

      That’s been my experience.

Some flashlights now come with warnings that they’ll work with alkaline batteries, but with reduced functionality or performance.

A review of a light source and no mention of the amount of light?

It is 180 lumens, better off at Costco or other vendors.

WHAT a rip-off! I can buy a similar flashlight on ebay for around $3
