Lowe’s has a Tiny Flashlight Multi-Tool Packed with Features

Black Decker COB Clip On Light Multi-Tool at Lowes

I found this multi-tool flashlight at Lowe’s, and it’s from Black & Decker, which is owned by the same company as Dewalt and Craftsman.

I snapped a photo and took a closer look once I got home. It’s definitely interesting.

To start off, Lowe’s price of $7 is far lower than the $15 it’s selling for on Amazon, Home Depot, and at Walmart.

We need to talk about its features.

Black Decker COB Clip On Light Multi-Tool

In addition to this being a clip-on light via the carabiner, there’s also a magnet. And a kickstand.

Other features include a multi-step wrench and a screwdriver bit holder.

I cannot find any mention about whether the screwdriver bits are included. There appear to be storage slots on the back, and so perhaps they are.

To summarize, it’s a wrench, a screwdriver, and there are multiple ways to carry, store, or use the light (clip, magnet, stand).

What about the light?

Black Decker COB Clip On Light Multi-Tool 500 Lumens Multi-White

Stanley Black & Decker advertises this as a “bright multiwhite COB light,” with maximum white, warm white, and red light modes.

Here’s what they say about its 7 lighting modes:

  • Cool white (high, low brightness)
  • Warm white (high, low brightness)
  • Red
  • Emergency beacon (red)

(It’s not just you, I only count 6 lighting modes, it’s unclear what you get with the 7th.)

Black Decker COB Clip On Light Multi-Tool IP Rating

The light has an aluminum housing and has IP44 rated dust and water resistance.

You can expect up to 3 hours of continuous lighting on a full charge of the built-in battery. The battery recharges via USB-C – a cable is included but not a power adapter.

Max brightness is 500 lumens.

Black Decker COB Clip On Light Multi-Tool Glass Breaker

Sorry, I missed a feature – it also has a glass breaking point.

Black Decker COB Clip On Light Multi-Tool Bottle Opener

And a bottle opener.

All that for just $7.

Price: $6.98

Buy it at Lowe’s

As mentioned, it’s more expensive everywhere else.

Compare at Home Depot
Compare at Amazon
Compare at Walmart

Would I buy this? No. I don’t like having so many things around with built-in batteries. If I want a multi-tool, I want a multi-tool. If I want a flashlight, I want a flashlight. This has a ton of features for the price, but I’m not sold on it being a good fit for my preferences.

This also looks a lot like the “Maglight” multi-use flashlight that triggered a trademark infringement lawsuit a few years back. See New Overpriced Mini Maglight LED Light is NOT a Maglite!!!.

I absolutely see the appeal in a 7-mode bright multi-tool flashlight, but it’s probably not for me.

What about you? Are you in for one at $7 each?

Honestly, its the most frequently used setting on all my flashlights. I won’t even consider buying one without it.

I’d have to remove the magnet because it’d kill my key fobs, but…

That seems very handy for looking in nooks and crannys (Or in ceilings). Often I’m taken around (commercial spaces) to see if I can fix “some other stuff since I’m here etc.). Definitely would save a trip and/or battery life on the phone flashlight .
For the price, I’ll be trying it out.

For $7, I’ll definitely buy a couple. These look perfect put on flashing red and strap to a backpack when I ride my bike at night. Cheap, rechargeable and a built-in clip seems like a no brainer.

I already have lights that fill this need many times over but I get it. Not a fan of using my phone for a light but if you’re in a pinch, you’re in a pinch.

I find this too gimmicky – it has too many things that don’t really go together. As Jonathan mentioned, the magnet doesn’t seem like a good addition to a tool with clip because it will either damage other keychain items or annoying stick to them. I wouldn’t want a glass breaker poking through my pocket either.

I actually have a similar light, no name chinesium with the same features minus the window breaker. It’s actually a very bright light with different temperature lights, the cigarette lighter works good for lighting paper. Makes a neat backpacking light, bright enough to light up your camp to set up and the lighter can light up some paper to start a fire if you need it. (Just carry a lighter though) Screwdriver bits are pretty small and poorly finished, never used them, but they seem like they’d break first use.
Only gripe is most lights don’t have a dedicated button to go right to the red light mode which defeats the purpose of the red light if I have to blind myself to get to it.

Specific use case but I just picked this up to clip to my zipper when I’m walking the dog at night, and I’ll get another one for my kid to keep on his backpack waiting for the school bus in the dark. As a light to make yourself visible to cars it works really well.

At this price, I could see this being a good stocking stuffer/Dirty Santa gift. I like some of the use cases mentioned like walking the dog and kids waiting for/unloading from the school bus. It would also be good for keeping attached to the cooler for parades, etc.

At $7 I would buy it just as a flashlight, not even thinking about all the other nonsense functions, but can’t find any honest to goodness review about the flashlight modes …
I am guessing you have to click it six times though all the brightness modes in white & warm white to reach the red light?
… which kind of defeats the purpose when you want red light :/

Part of a review from Amazon describing light modes. I was really convinced one was off, lol.

The light has 2 color temperatures and each of those has 3 brightness levels ranging from ‘death ray’ to ‘still way to bright’. I like it’s red light so I don’t blow out my night vision as it’s normal light modes are way to bright for close-in work at night even on their lowest levels. There is no memory or short-cuts (other than long-hold for red-flashing) for the light modes, so it comes on full-blast every time. Given how bright that is and 6 clicks to get to the red light, it could really use some memory or short cuts.

I have one of those, or at least one that looks identical.

Probably worth the $6, but I sure wouldn’t pay $15 for it.

It is one of those things that might sound good on paper, but is ‘gimmicky. I mean, honestly, does anyone think that a soft aluminum (or possibly pot metal) ‘wrench’ is going to be worth anything? The position of the ‘wrench’ is also set up in such a way that it can’t really grab the head of a bolt because the lens protrudes a bit from the front, and the magnet protrudes quite a bit from the back, meaning that at best the ‘wrench’ will only grab a small portion of the bolt head (if you look carefully at the pictures, you will see what I mean). It would have been better to just have a 1/4 hex cutout and call it a bit holder. The little kickstand is OK but only on flat, level surfaces, the magnet is of sufficient strength to hold for the most part. The light itself is bright enough, and the caribiner makes it easy to clip onto a kid’s backpack or similar so they always have a light with them.
I know I sound like I’m really knocking it, but all I am saying is that it is overpriced for what it is at $15. Again, for $6, it is probably a decent buy for a small multi-mode flashlight.

There are 7 light modes. In order: bright white, cool white hi, low, warm white hi, low, steady red. On any setting, hold down the button and the red S-O-S is activated. There are two driver bits attached to the back: one flat, one Phillips. Both are smaller than the standard ones. They slip into the socket on the side of the case.

I ordered one from Home Depot, and when it got delivered, I opened the package and the piece of crap fell apart in my hand. I was going to try and superglue it back together but it doesn’t even go back together right. I would recommend to anyone not to buy one of these pieces of garbage.
