Casio G-Shock Watch Limited Edition Black Friday 2025 Deal

Casio has launched a new G-Shock deal for Black Friday 2025, featuring this black and gold-colored watch for just $60.

The watch, GD100GB-1, is a limited edition for this sales event, features a digital display with typical functions – world time, stopwatch, countdown timer, alarms, LED backlight, and calendar display.

It also has a pressure and temperature sensor mounted to the 9 o’clock side.

They describe the watch as having an “energetic glossy gold on a characteristic rustic G-Shock all-black body” for “a gorgeous, cool design.” It looks alright to me, and you of course get G-Shock toughness and typical features.

The resin watch is water resistant to 200 meters, and the CR2025 battery is expected to last approximately 7 years.

I like G-Shocks for their durability – they make a good work watch in my opinion. I’m not sure this color scheme would be my first choice, but I do find the low price more appealing.

Looking for something different? G-Shock has other watches on sale, including a lot more subtle designs and some much flashier – check ’em out via the same link above.

I’m seeing some good prices at Amazon and other retailers – it might be worth looking there too.

I bought a g-shock in college and abused it, including when training in the pool. When I enlisted, I took it to basic training and abused it, including throwing it at full force against a brick wall to demonstrate its toughness. I intentionally ran it over with an armored HMMWV’s run-flat tire on blacktop. It lasted me all through a deployment to Iraq. The only thing that ever damaged it was when I changed the battery, apparently neglected to fully seal it, wore it in a pool, and a little moisture messed with one of the digits.

I don’t know if every g-shock model is as tough as that one, but it was amazing.

Ah. This brings back memories. I need a good justification for having a watch these days though. To check time discreetly during meetings instead of pulling out the phone?

Nothing discreet here. The radiant glow when exposing the watch will give you away.

In terms of aesthetics, to each his own. Ugh, pass, too gaudy.

Funny. Now maybe a Patek Philippe would be too boring? Fortunately my meeting days are now all online and no one can actually see this 17 ProMax.

Most of my watches are in the vault. I inherited most (1 great grand dad, 2 granddads and my father) – but my son seems to have no interest in wearing any of them. Maybe the next generation will – or will just sell the lot. The last I looked at them they don’t keep time as well as they should – all probably in need of a cleaning. I still wear a watch daily – an analog Cassio – that probably keeps as good if not better time than the gold Hamilton, Omega, Patek, Rolex and Vacheron that are hidden away for posterity. My wife wears an Apple watch – and her gold watches are likewise squirreled away – being more jewelry than functional pieces. The Swiss who once dominated the watch business lost a lot of it once quartz timing was perfected and could be mass produced for pennies. Smartphones now seem to be the timekeeper of choice for many more. When I was in Lucerne last year – Bucherer seemed to be as busy as ever – so I’m not too worried about the Swiss.

Your cheap casio digital undoubtedly keeps better time than a Patek, and is probably much more feature rich to boot. There does seem to be something of a resurgence of wearing watches though- I love my automatic watches despite needing to adjust the time at least weekly, they just spark joy and are fun to wear and learn about. I don’t love smart watches- for some reason “screens” are harder for me to read than an old LCD or actual physical hands.

As far as gshock goes though, I like the classic square or the less zany round 2100 ana/digi series (the “casi-oak”). All tough as nails, though now that the battery on one of mine has died, I want to replace it with a solar version instead of spending $5 on batteries that will last 3 years… it’s a hobby that is just as expensive but takes up less space!

Too gaudy is right in the G-Shock sweet spot.

Digital displays are theoretically more durable because they have fewer moving parts, but the viewing angles aren’t great, and those negative displays (with white numbers on a black background are even worse. I much prefer analog displays with hands. There are many on sale now.

Now, there is a new digital display technology, MIP or memory-in-pixel, that looks pretty great, almost like print on paper. Of the ones on sale, I think only the GBDH2000 has it.

Big fan of Casio watches, though I’ve started wearing a Garmin Instinct 3 (similar aesthetic to the G-shock). For me, it (and their competitors Polar, Suunto, Coros, Suunto, and Amazfit) fit a nice balance of having some smartwatch features and long battery life. Being able to track steps and also actively track walks, runs, and other activities has been a great motivator for staying in shape. Casio has some of these features, but want to see further efforts from them.

For me, I still wear my G-Shock on occasion when I don’t need notifications, music player remote controls, heartrate, or other smartphone features on my wrist. It’s a durable time-keeping device with some other related features, but that’s it.

They have fitness tracker watches, but for Black Friday the main deal is this limited edition for $60.

Casio has a tremendous and diverse catalog of watches, from $20 to $4000. All are well made and reliable. Their Oceanus line of titanium, solar, sapphire, radio-controlled “traditional” watches are amazingly high quality for reasonable money. So many choices.

I’m also a big fan of Casio.
