Hilti Nuron Cordless Angle Grinder AG 4S-22

Hilti has announced 5 new cordless angle grinders that will be joining their Nuron 22V power tool system.

Most of the new Hilti cordless angle grinders are designed for metal grinding and cutting applications, with the highest powered model designated for concrete correction and rebar cutting tasks.

Following is all the information, details, and images that Hilti provided us with. If you have any questions, maybe Hilti’s influencer partners, who attended an exclusive event and have reviews up on social media, can help.

  • Dual-hand detection for increased user safety
  • Sensor-activated dead man‘s switch for increased comfort in use
  • Easy disc swap due to automatic spindle lock

It’s unclear what Hilti means by “dual-hand detection,” as I don’t see a secondary switch. I also don’t see a paddle switch, only what appears to be a locking-on type slide switch.

Milwaukee M18 Fuel Dual Trigger Braking Angle Grinder with One-Key 3676 App Connectivity

Milwaukee also recently launched an M18 FUEL dual trigger angle grinder, with One-Key connectivity and a permanently-mounted side handle that has a built-in switch.

  • Powerful brushless motor delivers 2200W corded power
  • Rotating handle makes cutting and grinding ergonomic
  • Fast braking stops disc in less than 3 seconds

It’s not clear whether this is the only grinder from the new lineup that has a braking mechanism.

I’d like to know more about the “less than 3 second” wheel brake. Milwaukee’s newest 6″ grinder brake – and their preceding models – can bring the wheel to a stop in less than 2 seconds. In past conversations, Milwaukee said that too quick of a brake can lead to loosening of the wheel, and too slow can reduce the effectiveness of the safety mechanism.

I wonder if the the brake in Hilti’s grinder stops discs in less than 3 seconds because they couldn’t achieve a faster action, or if it’s a deliberate engineering decision.

Stuart, after your recent editorial, I appreciate the 3rd paragraph. It’s succinct without being overly accusatory, while also highlighting where the communication breakdown occured.

I read through some of the other discussions on Hilti brand awareness. I’m not really sure any of them hit the mark all that well.

A big part of Hilti’s customer focus are large scale contractors that have purchasing departments to outfit their crews with the needed gear. To that respect, many purchasing departments are handled by people with accounting and financial experience, not necessarily any trade background.

From my perspective, financial people are more likely have to sit in front of a computer screen all day, and as such will tend to be far more facebook-addict/ internet-connected than an average tradesperson that has only a mobile data connection, and has to put their phone down enough to do the work.

So by that respect, I see the advantage to the influencer-only route. I don’t like it, but if it translates into more sales for them, it’s what they need to do.

And to be fair in that regard, without a Facebook-connected coworker, I never would have found out about Styrke tool boxes. They’re far too small of a company for a big press junket and instead rely on tiktok and Facebook marketing the couple of owners appear to be doing themselves. And they’re Canadian as well, so most American tool news sources just simply don’t cover them.

I’ve been researching tool boxes for over a year now, but it only took me 10 minutes viewing some of their videos to determine that IS my next box, once tariff stuff gets worked out. And that opportunity for me, or their company, simply couldn’t have existed without the ‘influencer’ type content.

But as history has shown before, abandoning the old entirely for the new doesn’t always work well. Word of mouth and good old print with honest takes on good/bad products are desperately needed more than ever to balance the scales.

These new Hilti 22V tools look interesting. I’d love to understand them better, but it’s not possible a this time, and so I put together as detailed of a preview as I could.

The choice was to either include Hilti at whatever capacity I could, even though they’re spending untold sums on influencer marketing and couldn’t provide us with adequate media resources, or to exclude them.

Capacitance sensors mayve vs adding a switch and other pieces. Might be better more vibration resistance . Resistance sensor or strain sensor. They mention sensors on the one so might be on all.

Interesting not for me but I do find hilti tools interesting. Also like their decision for 22 volt batteries. Got to be different

Capacitance would be an interesting way to measure, especially considering the extra thick gloves most shops require with grinder usage to deal with the potential of exploding discs and grinding debris.

I mean I love Hilti. I think they make great tools. But what is up with the huge oversized, bulky batteries??? Being slimline is important. And it’s like they don’t even care about it at all.

More Li-on cells means greater continuous power delivery and longer runtime.

The type of work Hilti tools are used for tends to be more demanding than say cabinet installations.

“tends to be more demanding than say cabinet installations”

On that topic, do we know which grinders were used in the Louvre heist?
