Stanley 65pc Homeowner Tool Kit

Over at Amazon this Stanley 65-piece general purpose tool set is on sale for $28. It has everything homeowners and aspiring DIYers need for around-the-home projects and repairs.

This set’s street price of $50 is a bit high in my opinion, but at $28 it’s a great value.

Tools:

  • 16-foot tape measure
  • 13-ounce claw hammer with fiberglass handle
  • utility knife with 18mm snap-off blades
  • torpedo level
  • 1/4″ round head ratchet with 8 sockets
  • 1/4″ hex bit holder adapter with 30 insert bits
  • spinner handle
  • long nose pliers (6-inch)
  • slip joint pliers (6-inch)
  • 2 screwdrivers – Phillips #2 and 6.5mm flat head
  • 16 hex keys – 8 SAE, 8 metric
  • blow-molded carrying case

A $9 off $45 holiday coupon drops the price further if you buy two sets or one set plus a couple of other Stanley tools.

It’s a simple general purpose set that seems suitable for casual use. I could put together a much better kit by sourcing similar tools separately, but not for under $30.

I don’t think this is a good deal at all. Considering theres 30 hex bits (half of the tools in the set) and 16 allens, the only tools that cost real money here are hammer, pliers and screwdrivers. What are you supposed to do with 8 sockets anyways?

I think the harbor freight 130 piece is a much more comprehensive set at the same price when you have a %20 off coupon although I can’t tell if theres a difference in quality.

PS Why doesn’t anyone put down what size sockets, allens and hex bits are included anymore.
