Homemade Overarm Pin Router – Free Plans & Discussion

Over at ArmChairDIY, there’s a great post about overarm pin routers that also includes free plans for making your own. The plans are from an older Popular Mechanics tutorial by Rosario Capotosto, and they are extremely detailed and easy to follow.

The homemade overarm pin router is designed to be flexible and somewhat modular, and it looks like the spindle holder can be easily modified to hold a rotary tool or drill.

Thanks for posting about my article!

Everyone knows by now I’m a big fan of homemade tools, well all tools really.

I’m in the planning stages of building a homemade overarm router.
I’m really considering using pneumatics instead of the hand operated lever like the Popular mechanics version.
If my plans become a reality you can be sure I will post a big long article all about it.

No problem, it was a great article!

I’m eager to see what your project will end up looking like. A pneumatic depth controlled would be neat! I imagine that such a contraption would also be adaptable for use with rotary tools or drills.

Have you done anything with the plans for the over arm pin router? The motor on my Rockwell/Delta over arm pin router just died. The $351.00 replacement cost is killing me. I won’t be eating for a month.

I’ve taken a close look at the plans on Popular Mechanics. It doe’s not look too challenging but the addition of a pneumatic foot device would do the trick for me.

I haven’t seen anything new from the Armchair DIY in a while, so I’m not sure if he finished building it.

I am still looking for the plans for the Overhead Router Pin Attachment published in Popular Mechanics… Seems to be discontinued everywhere… Anybody have… Would appreciate sending to me…

Any chance someone has these plans? The links are dead and wayback and archive do not have them. Help?
