Klein Tools has launched a new ball handle screwdriver, model 32960A, and it’s compatible with a wide range of bits that you might already have.
The new Klein screwdriver features a ball-shaped end grip that delivers “exceptional torque and all-day comfort.”

It has a FastBit quick-release collar and comes with a reversible Phillips and slotted screwdriver bit.
Klein says you can use it with a wide range of screwdriver bits that have 1/4″ hex shanks and are at least 1.5″ long. This implies you can use it with power bit-style accessories such as screwdriver bits, extensions, nut drivers, and more.
This looks like a handy take on the classic Japanese-style ball handle screwdriver, and the price seems reasonable

It will be interesting to see if Klein launches this style of screwdriver in additional sizes.
While ball drivers don’t replace traditional screwdrivers in all applications, I think they’re worth trying out, especially this style where you can replace the bit tips. If you’re sold on the idea, then you can shop around for dedicated-size screwdrivers.

If you’re looking for something similar but different, Lowe’s has a Vessel ratcheting ball grip screwdriver that can be converted into a stubby driver, Amazon has an interchangeable shaft Vessel driver, and KC Tool has the new Wera ball-grip drivers in a range of sizes.
Vessel has been my go-to for this type of screwdriver, ever since Craftsman launched a collab product 10 years ago. It’ll be interesting to see how well the Klein compares.

Since these are made in Japan and resemble Vessel’s ball drivers – is Vessel actually the manufacturer perhaps?
I quite like my multi-bit ball driver. It’s a useful shape.

Unsure. It seems there are a couple of brands that make ball drivers now, such as Engineer and Anex. I checked but couldn’t find any tools that look exactly like this one, and so it could be any of the OEMs.

I mentioned Wera at the end of the post. The question is about which Japanese brands could be making this for Klein Tools. Wera’s are made in the Czech Republic, not Japan, which rules them out.

I think I’d pay the premium for the Vessel ratcheting screwdriver.

I find I don’t get along well with ratcheting screwdrivers – even the good ones. However, I might “save the premium” and pick up Vessel’s non-ratcheting interchangeable screwdriver with three dual-sided bits for $13.50 (220W3J1 – on Amazon).
For me, it all depends on whether Klein’s locking bit retainer is any good. Vessel just has a magnet on theirs (which works fine).

I felt the same way about ratcheting screwdrivers until I tried a Vessel – the ball rests in my hand and my fingers can speed-spin the shaft very easily. Then the ball is used to really crank on it.
I’m expecting something very similar with this Klein.

I’ve gotten one of these and it’s on par with the Wiha Centrofix handle in the lack of wobble in the bits.
My Wiha handle has zero wobble, and the Klein I have has the tiniest amount that’s not even worth a quibble.

Hmmm, this looks appealing. Wide compatibility with standard bits, (presumed) Japanese quality, decent price. For me, non-ratcheting is a plus. I’ve never tried these ball drivers, but this one tempts me.

Bought a couple of the Craftsman versions when Sears was clearancing them out for ~$5 some years ago. The local Sears store has since clearanced itself right out of business…
The Craftsman versions were my introduction to Vessel ball drivers.
Since then, I’ve bought a ton of Vessel drivers and bits including one of their electric drivers along with several sets of precision drivers and most recently a 32 piece precision bit set with a metal driver – all in a handy pocket sized box. Also got 4 of their reversible drivers and all the interchangeable blades that they make for them. The ball end snaps off and you can use it as a reversible stubby driver – pretty neat! Big fan of Vessel – top quality stuff.

The YouTube videos of these show what I take as 1) a Vessel-style ball grip and 2) a Wiha Centrofix-like bit holder. Both winners for me, I’ll definitely grab one when I can.

Kline’s marketing team has done a great job creating buzz about this, I’ve see a bunch of YouTube reviews already. But their channel sales team sucks, it’s not on Amazon, Home Depot, or Lowes. I like Acme but I don’t want to pay shipping and by the time it’s available on Amazon I’m likely to forget.

Tekton USA screwdrivers replaced by German Felo’s!

I have a few of the new Tekton’s. Pretty good and according to Tekton they are made in Germany by Witte Tools.
A few years ago I ordered a set of their USA hard handle drivers. I didn’t like them. Every handle in the set was a different color red. From light red to crimson. The drivers themselves were ok. Maybe I got a bad set. I sent them back.
I do like the Felo drivers. Their Ergonic handles are absolutely amazing!

Had mine since launch there good. It replaced my anex racheting screwdriver and anything besides by vessel ceramic ball for non powered driver. If you haven’t yet tools and tatics has a video on how strudy this is some demo screwdrivers wouldn’t survive. He wittles the thing down its solid through most of the handle. Its the true universal screwdriver handle for 13mm jis bits or anything really.
