Over on social media, Leatherman introduced a new Micra multi-tool color – Pumpkin Spice.
In their post, Leatherman says that the new “PSL season” tool is “perfect for all the English teachers and gym teachers,” and they go on to use Taylor Swift hashtags.

Leatherman’s description on Amazon describes it as a grooming tool and mini pocket knife for everyday carry, hobbies, and outdoors.
The Micra really is a sweet keychain-sized multi-tool, although $55 seems a little steep.
Some online posts are calling this a limited edition color. Leatherman doesn’t make it clear whether the pumpkin spice color is here to stay.
It’s good to have more color options, and as strange as this product launch has been, it’s also good to see Leatherman trying to reach new demographics.
I like that Leatherman has been introducing new color options, but they might be trying too hard with this one. Then again, some people really do look forward to “pumpkin spice season,” and fall colors.

Way back in 2011, I bought a Leatherman Juice S2 in “flame orange.” I am all for orange multi-tools.
Leatherman’s image of the pumpkin spice-colored Micra being used to cut through the hair clip packaging is a great example of how it could be used. I gave my wife a mini Victorinox a long time ago (maybe 15 years?), and she uses the scissors the most, for all kinds of things. The Micra’s main function is its scissors.

Hey! I (still) have a “flame orange” Juice S2 as well! I love the tool and the form factor. It’s my most-loved Leatherman in terms of use and abuse. After a decade and a half, the pivot joints have gotten a bit sloppy, but the rest still holds up. The bright color has been great in locating it the dozen or so times I’ve “lost” it.
I also have a Micra in my keychain. I think that’s where it makes the most sense, and I see the promo pictures prominently display the keychain loop. However, mine is plain steel, which makes the inevitable pocket wear from being by keys less visible.
For that reason, I wouldn’t want a colored Micra.
The new $55 price point seems steep, but I think if you look at it’s original release date nearly 30 years ago and it’s original MSRP (~$30), it’s basically the same. Leatherman’s prices are just reflective of actual inflation. It seems they’ve chosen to retain the same (US) production and quality, and that’s the result.

Agreed, $55 is crazy. I remember paying $20 for mine ~20 years ago. And looking at Amazon price history it’s normal price was $30 until the start of 2022 when it started skyrocketing.

You can’t look at Amazon pricing because for the longest time the Micra wasn’t available there. As per a couple of messages in my inbox, it wasn’t available from Amazon for much of 2022.

Looking at the Keepa data it was in and out of stock the first couple of months of 2022 but was for sale there most of the year. Just not directly from Amazon. It was and continues to be mostly 3rd party sellers. for the 10 or so Leatherman products I just checked. And Leatherman themselves seem to be the primary seller. They’re just using Amazon as a storefront and to provide fulfillment. It also looks like a lot of their other offerings went up by $10 at the start of 2022. So while it may not be perfect data, I think it’s still a decent indicator of past pricing. And that Leatherman raised their prices at that point in time.

The orange juice S2 is unmatched. Been my favorite all around pocket tool since the day I got it.
Leatherman would be wise to bring it back.

The micra is 30 years old? Really. Never seen one till recently and to be fair as an office worker and having a max blade policy. The micra makes sense for me. Agree the price is steep and no psl. But the stainless and the green appeal to me

If it works for you then that’s cool. But don’t be afraid of larger multi-tools because of the knife blade. There are options like the Leatherman Free and ARC that have aftermarket support to swap the knife blades with things like combs, scalpel holders, jig saw blade holders, bit holders, etc. SOG also offers things like wire strippers, scissors, and V cutters that can be swapped into their multi-tools. And if you don’t want to modify anything then the leatherman rebar and a gerber model are available without a blade.

Also what does “Built in the USA” mean? Sounds similar to assembled…..

I’ve toured Leatherman’s factory, which is mere miles from me (albeit many years ago). They do a substantial amount of work there. At that time they were working from rolled steel for many parts, cutting, polishing, anodizing, assembling, packaging, etc.
At that time, they bragged that some of their files were cut in Germany. That kind of part sourcing precludes a “Made in USA” mark, because you have to source 100% components to legally use that distinction.

Leatherman has been doing duo tone for a lot of Micras, and for this one they repeatedly alluded to Pumpkin Spice Latte. So maybe one is pie and the other the Starbucks drink.

It seems that all of them except three are offered in the color combo black gray and Bärf green are the only ones where it looks like they’re both the same color.

Thanks, I hate it. Is my gut reaction to leatherman making something PSL colored. But… if it’s just a color, and not a markup on the normal tool/other colors, whatever, I hope their marketing intern had a blast, seems like they did.
