Leatherman Style CS – a Mini Skeletool with Scissors!

Along with the previously mentioned Style, Leatherman has introduced the Style CS, a rather compact keychain tool that’s packed with features. Referred to as the mini Skeletool, Leatherman’s Style CS packs 8 essential tools into a lightweight and compact design.

With a length of 3.0 inches and weight of 1.47 oz, the Style CS is fairly lightweight and compact. While the CS isn’t as light or short as the minimalist non-CS Style, it makes up for its size with several added tools and features.

The Style CS is made from stainless steel with Zytel handle scales, and features the following tools:

  • Tough spring-action scissors
  • 420HC plain edge knife with an opening hole (a great improvement over a standard nail nick)
  • Flat-Phillips screwdriver tip
  • Carabiner with built-in bottle opener
  • Nail file
  • Tweezers
  • Key Ring Attachment

The Style CS has a fold-open design that makes it a little bit larger and bulkier compared to the Style. We imagine that many users won’t mind this at all, we certainly don’t, as the scissors on the CS are incredibly robust with large blades and a good amount of leverage.

Update: The Leatherman Style CS has dropped in price and can be found for less than $20.

There are a few versions of CRKT’s Guppie Multi-Tool available, but they haven’t really caught my eye.

I’m sure they’re great tools, and I do plan on trying them out someday, but having strong scissors in a pocket/keychain tool is far more important to me than having pliers or an adjustable wrench.

If I anticipate needing pliers, I carry a Leatherman Wave, Skeletool, Charge, or Freestyle. When I’m not carrying a full-size tool, I run into more situations that require good scissors than I do those that require pliers or wrenches. Retractable scissors are great in a pinch and are better than having no scissors, but full-leverage scissors are vastly superior.
