New Leatherman Sheaths, Sleeves, Pouches & Why You Need One

Leatherman New Multi-Tool Sheaths and Carry Options for 2025

Leatherman has launched all-new multi-tool and EDC carrying and storage options, including sheaths, sleeves, and pouches.

The new selection of multi-tool accessories include a colorful array of nylon belt sheaths, new MOLLE sheath color options, leather sleeves in 3 colors and 4 sizes, and new tool pouches in 3 color options.

In my opinion, the new selection looks well thought out, and the prices seem fair.

The pouches are all launching at $29.95 each.

Leatherman Black Leather Sleeve in Pocket

The leather sleeves are $5 each for the Micra size, or $10 each for small, medium or large sizes.

Leatherman Multi-Tool Leather Sleeve Size Guide

Here’s the size guide from Leatherman’s website.

They don’t mention where any of these accessories are made, but given the pricing I’d guess they’re imported.

Finally, here are the color options for the nylon belt sheath, which are all $20 each. There are two sizes, medium and large.

For a limited time (thru September 30, 2025) Leatherman is celebrating their new tool carrying accessories with a 25% discount.

Why You Need One

If you’re buying a new Leatherman tool and you want a sheath – or any carrying option – you’re going to have to buy one.

A lot of Leatherman tools do not ship with a sheath or carry option, such as the Skeletool. However, tools such as the Wave or Arc do. Or at least they did.

Online gear enthusiasts have pointed out that Leatherman has updated many of their multi-tool product listings with the following phrase:

Sheath and pocket clip sold separately.

Every tool I checked says the same, or similar, and I cannot find any Leatherman tools that still ship with a sheath.

Even the premium Leatherman Arc (see Leatherman Arc Review: a Nearly Perfect Multi-Tool), which sells for $249.95, no longer comes with a leather sheath.

Leatherman’s new carry options look really good, but I’m also disappointed that their larger multi-tools no longer come with a sheath.

Looking for a silver lining, I don’t like the sheaths that came with some of my Leathermans, and so having to buy one separately means shoppers can choose one that better suits their needs and tastes.

Leatherman has not yet made any announcements regarding this change, or whether it’s related to the new tariffs on imported goods.

That tool pouch looks pretty sweet. I’m a sucker for pouches and I’m sure I’ll end up buying it.

I recently purchased the new Maxpedition Platy Pocket Organizer. You should check that out. Its great!

I have a Maxpedition EDC pouch that I really like. I’ve used it a few different ways over the years – it’s currently a basic first aid kit.

Maxpedition makes so many great pouches and bags.

A few years back Stuart posted the Manhattan coin purse. I’ve been using those as mini first aid kits in all my Veto bags.

I can sort of understand this – as the cost of everything rises, it makes sense to make this an optional purchase instead of always including it. Maybe Leatherman assumes many users already have one sheath and therefore don’t need one with every purchase. Many electronic devices come with charging cords but not wall blocks. My Skeletool came with a sheath that I rarely use. I do not like the idea of a multitool without a pocket clip, though. That seems more essential to me.

Agreed. With the exception of the Crunch (which doesn’t hold together the same), I prefer pocket clips instead of sheaths for Leatherman tools. And I think the Crunch is discontinued (again).

Also with the tariff BS, Leatherman is probably unable to accurately project pricing for included pouches. By making it a separate item, they can adjust prices as the mad king randomly spews out new tariff numbers.

I think the reason that Leatherman felt comfortable deleting the sheath is that it’s just not the perfect solution, at least for me. I have bought many multitools from them over the years, most of which came with a sheath, but the sheaths are all sitting unused in a drawer. The reason is that I just don’t like having that appendage hanging from my belt. The smaller tools I just drop into my pocket, and the larger ones (ARC, Wave Plus, etc.) I use the pocket clip. Which is not the perfect solution, either. The pocket clips wear out the top of my jeans pockets well before the rest of the pants are worn out.

All of this makes me think that even Leatherman recognizes that the world needs a better way to carry their products, and these new sheaths and cases are their attempt at addressing that need (and making a few bucks in the process).

My opinion will run counter to most but I am not all that impressed.

There are lots of decent multipurpose case and belt pouch options and these don’t look like anything special. If I want to carry more than just a multitool i have no shortage of options to choose from, why is this worth the premium that the branding commands.

What I really wish they still offered was the original style leather sheaths. There is not much out there that offers the slim utilitarian functionality. More and more I am finding that the original designs just plain got it right. Simple functional and nothing more. No bigger and heavier than they needed to be. It is really evident when you look close at the long retired PST, PST II, and Super tool how much thought and iteration went into them to pack the most function in without compromising the functionality of any of the tools. Owning and carrying quite a few over the years my next iteration of EDC will probably be reverting back to a PST II from a Charge XTi based on what I actually use.

They still offer a leather sheath:

Its limited to black, where I would rather have brown (to match belt).

I see both black and brown heritage leather sheaths on their “Sheaths & Carry” page. The brown (scroll down) is offered in 4 sizes.

I think the original style leather sheaths are still offered for sale along with “newer” styles and solutions.

I have a “black nylon sheath w/pockets” that I bought when I added the ratcheting bit driver and bit sets to my carry (this was when the price was lower, before they were out of stock for a very long time). I would absolutely buy one of these new colors, just for fun, but they don’t make the color sheaths with pockets (yet? Hopefully?).

The 25% discount makes this worthwhile. Bought each of the three pouch colors.

I have tried the Leatherman sheaths a few years back when it came with the tool. At the time they had a combination of leather front and back with elastic material for the sides. I found is that they didn’t stand up to everyday use, especially the stitching. I actually got into doing custom leatherwork just for things like this. I made one for my Leatherman Surge and have been wearing it pretty much every day for at least 5 years. While it looks a little beat, it is still structurally sound. Out of the number of options I tried before, I did not have anything stand up this long. I also liked adding extra features specific to me. Personally I use a pen and a sharpie a lot, so I added a place for those that is much more secure than the little elastic pockets that came on the Leatherman sheath I tried.

The color sheaths don’t mention the Charge on the size guide. I wonder if the medium will fit.

My Charges are the same size as my Wave.

Update: apparently the Wave isn’t on the sheath size chart either.

Kind of strange they would leave those off. Wave and charge are pretty popular.

Are the color sheaths only available in certain colors depending on size or are they just half sold out?

I think maybe there are only specific size and color combinations for now, as I’m not seeing any colors that are available for both.

I am like many other posters.

I should use sleeves, but don’t (too lazy?) Sheath or holsters; I don’t care for, never have. Be it multitool, phone or whatever else can be put on my belt, just do not like.

The clip on the tool is my preferred way to carry knives and multitools, usually clipped to my pocket with the tool inside.

Pouches! Now you got me. I love pouches, having a bunch from Vanquest, MaxPedetion and other brands.

This Leatherman looks like it is a 1/2 or maybe a 1/3 the size of the ones I have, which makes it a “I got get one” or 2 or 3.

I guess like you said the pricing is fair. First with Covid and now with the uncertainty with tariffs, everything has gone up so much, the $30 for a pouch seems alright. Especially because you can always get cheaper but many of the cheap stuff is flimsy, low grade materials, lousy stitching..etc.

I would expect the Leatherman to be a very good quality.

I wanted some sort of sheath for my car multitool so it wouldn’t slide around so much in the spare tire area. So I just used an old sock. Works fine! If it ever wears out, I have lots of old unpaired socks I have no other use for.

I buy a LOT of stuff using Stuart’s links, so I don’t feel bad about saying that. 🙂

I’ve always had to buy another sheath because I like to carry a penlight sized flashlight and those elasticated side holders are great for this. I also find Velcro closures lose interest over time so I’ve had to install Snaps or Press Studs to keep them closed. Still own a 1998 Wave.

I’ve never liked the nylon sheaths that came with the multitools I’ve bought from leatherman. Cheap nylon and crappy hook and loop that wears out prematurely. Even the nylon pouches that are produced by companies aimed at airsoft players for cheap on Amazon were a little better quality. Hopefully they at least upped the quality and it’s not the same garbage they put out before with different colors.

After two days I couldn’t hold out any longer and ordered one of the tool pouches.

I’ll figure out the purpose of use later. lol.

I like the original leather sheath that came with the original multitool back in the day. Compact, functional, durable and in my opinion stylish.

I’d have to see the new ones in person but $25 for imported generic “ballistic nylon” and elastic sheath….meh. That button closure is not going to hold up.

Colors are a nice touch. Molle webbing is a good start. Make the belt tunnel work for horizontal and vertical carry would be step in right direction.

Now if it was 1000 denier curdora nylon, Kevlar stitching, with high quality snap, bungee or hook and loop closure we are getting somewhere. Explore injection molded or heat molded sheaths. Maybe an open top design with adjustable retention. Tunnel pockets are ok but clips are more versatile. Look at .mil or LEO gear pouches for inspiration. And yes make it in more than black and camo colors. I don’t want to look like a tactical mall ninja.
