Dewalt raised the prices of all of their 20V Max cordless drill and impact driver kits for Black Friday this year, or at least from what I’ve seen so far.
In recent years, Dewalt had 4 different cordless drill kit promos and 2 or 3 impact driver kit promos, each at the $99 price point.
This year, they raised the price to $119. I’ve noticed price increases on a lot of other Dewalt cordless power tool deals this year, but they were not selling any 20V Max drill or impact driver kits for $99 was a big shock.

A reader pointed out something that I had missed. As shown above, Lowe’s is advertising their exclusive Dewalt brushless drill and impact driver kits at $119, but there’s also a “members deal” that can be unlocked.

On the product page for both tools, Lowe’s say that an extra members-only discount of $20 is applied after adding either the drill or impact to your shopping cart.

I signed up for their member program at some point, and sure enough I saw the price on the Dewalt cordless drill kit drop to $99 in my Lowe’s shopping cart.
The same happened when I added the impact driver to my cart.

All season now, Home Depot has had the Dewalt Atomic brushless drill and impact driver kits for $119 each.
Stanley Black & Decker – Dewalt’s parent company – seems to treat their retail partners evenly, with no obvious favorites most of the time.

If Home Depot gets a brushless drill to sell for $99, Lowe’s gets a brushless drill to sell for $99. Prices for Dewalt promos, such as their miter saws and table saws, always seem to be consistent across the two retailers.
So what’s going on here, where Lowe’s is able to sell Dewalt 20V Max brushless drill and impact driver kits at $99 each, but Home Depot is selling their exclusives at $119 each?

Oh, there’s more. Shown here are the 3 main “free Dewalt tool” promos that Lowe’s is offering to customers right now.
Buy a Dewalt 20V Max Battery 2-Pack, Get 1 FREE Tool – $199
Buy a Dewalt 20V Max Starter Kit, Get 2 FREE Tools – $299
Buy a Dewalt 20V Max PowerPack Starter Kit, Get 3 FREE Tools – $449

And here are Home Depot’s “free Dewalt tool” promos.
Buy a Dewalt 20V Max Starter Kit, Get a FREE Tool – $199
Buy a Dewalt Atomic 2-Tool Combo Kit, Get a FREE Tool – $299
Buy a Dewalt 20V Max XR 3-Tool Combo Kit, Get a FREE Tool – $399
Buy a Dewalt 20V Max XR 4-Tool Combo Kit, Get a FREE Tool – $449
Buy a Dewalt 20V Max Starter Kit, Get 2 FREE Tools – $299 (online only)
Buy a Dewalt FlexVolt Starter Kit, Get 1 FREE Tool – $329
Home Depot’s deals are okay, but in my opinion Lowe’s 3 free tool offer is so much better, and Home Depot doesn’t have anything close to that.
Home Depot doesn’t seem to have any Dewalt PowerPack deals, although they do have a kit where you can buy 3 compact tools with larger and heavier FlexVolt batteries and choose 1 free tool.
Are Lowe’s deals better than Home Depot’s this year? That’s a matter of opinion.
But Lowe’s being able to sell Dewalt cordless drill kits and impact driver kits at $99 for Black Friday while Home Depot’s best price is $119 – that’s definitely new and a break from what I’ve seen.

Home Depot has a Dewalt tape measure deal right now.

Where’d the Atomic branding go? When I asked about this, Dewalt said they “don’t have any updates to share.”
I’m not sure what to make of all this, or whether it’s all smaller parts of a bigger picture.
Home Depot is still beating Lowe’s when it comes to the number and breadth of Dewalt tool deals for Black Friday, which make all of this even more curious.

Is dropping the Atomic branding a way to get those tools into other retailers? If the name is exclusive to HD then dropping that would free it up
skfarmer
atomic branding is not exclusive to home depot.
acme and ace have piles of it
Rog
Ah true. Forgot about them

It looks like the additional $20 discount is being offered by Lowes to promote their membership program.
That said I wouldn’t be surprised if Dewalt started offering Lowes better treatment. TTI Depot aren’t doing Dewalt any favors and maybe they’ve finally realized it.
Stuart
My thoughts are that this is a way to get around
MSRPMAP.Retailers all watch what the others are doing. If one offers a tool at a lower price, phone calls get made. I’ve been roped into drama a bunch of times now to know that.
Lowe’s is now selling Dewalt Elite power tool accessories, which Dewalt describes as their best performing line of accessories. So what does that make the Dewalt MaxFit accessories at Home Depot? Brand-retail relationships are complicated.
Big Richard
I think you meant MAP, not MSRP.
Stuart
Oops – yes, MAP.

remember a few days ago when the conversation was that we would not see these for 99 bucks this season or ever again?
is it a little harder to find and not as well promoted? for sure but the dela is essentially there.
Stuart
But only at Lowe’s. And seemingly online-only.

I think this holiday season has been, low-key, very concerning for SBD. The $99 drill deal has long been a staple – as have the “free tool” deals. Neither look quite so enticing this year, especially here in Canada (which I recognize is a drop in the bucket, but still).
It’s not like I’m predicting doom and demise for the giant tool corporation, but is this a hiccup or a trend? They’ve been at the game a long time and I don’t think these clues are simple missteps. Something’s up.
Stuart
I think SBD faced a tough choice – raise prices and irk consumers, or accept lower profits and upset investors, potentially leading the stock price to drop further.

I just picked up the Dewalt 20V Max PowerPack Starter Kit with the two XR PowerPack 8ah batteries, 12amp fast charger and the three free tools at my local Lowe’s. My choice of the three free tools was the Trim Router DCW600B, Cutout Tool DCE555B and the Recip Saw DCS382B.
I mostly wanted the batteries and the trim router, and this looks to be a good deal.
Thanks, Stuart
