Memorial Day weekend is here. I’ve been flooded with all sorts of deal newsletters, emails, and there are quite a few standout deals as well.
I’ll be updating this post throughout the weekend, and here are a few deals to start.
Do you know of any good tool deals? Is there anything you’re looking to buy that you could use an extra set of deal-searching eyes for?

Craftsman’s V20 cordless drill/driver, reviewed here is on sale for just $59. That’s a really good price for a decent entry-level drill kit.
There are better promos at the $99 price point, but for just under $60, nothing else seems to come close.

Acme Tools Metabo 18v Quick Driver kit, normally $339, on sale for…….$69!!!!!

If anyone ever spent $339 on that they’re foolish. Only comes with one battery and a brushed motor. As of right now it says they’re unavailable.
MM
“If anyone ever spent $339 on that they’re foolish. Only comes with one battery and a brushed motor.”
And not only that, the tool doesn’t come with the hex bit adapter or the offset adapter. I picked up the M12 version of this tool last year on sale at HD for $99 kitted with two batteries, charger, and all 4 standard attachments.
I could see someone snagging the kit though, it’s basically like buying the battery and charger and then getting the tool for free. If someone was already into Metabo and had a good use for the battery it wouldn’t be a bad move. When I looked at the link earlier today they were still available but it looks like they’ve cleared out now!
fred
MAXTOOL – sent an email today:
$25 off on $200- Makita, Bosch, Metabo and others
Use code MFD2021
MM
Thanks for that one Fred, I took advantage of that. And they also had their “Max Cash” rebate-toward-a-future-order in effect too.
They still have the $25 off $200 sale, though it is now extended for Father’s Day.
They also have a $25 off $200 Flash Sale for *ALL* Milwaukee tools for 48 hours. Code MIL25
Dan
I was really hoping for a good toolbox sale at HF, but they just aren’t doing those as often anymore.

Wow, that DeWalt ROS is tempting. I’m always having to deal with the cord on my Bosch.
But if and when I get a vacuum and adapter, I’ll have the hose to deal with regardless, right? So is it so important for the sander to be cordless?
Rob
I run six sanders now and used to run 8. I’m used to the power cord but I wouldn’t mind not having it there. Depending on your hose, it may want to bunch up. If the cord is much shorter than your hose, it becomes a dumpster fire. Had that issue with a Metabo grinder that shipped with a much shorter cord than I’m used to from German stuff. Cordless with a hose sounds like less battling tethers, as long as you have something to trigger the vacuum whenever you toggle the sander on/off for sandpaper change-outs.
Chris
I think cordless even when connected to a vac is still a benefit. On some of my tools, the vac hose and the cord don’t want to go away from the tool in the same direction, so just managing the vac hose is a lot easier. For example, I switched from using a corded rotozip to a cordless Makita (both cases connected to vac), and using the cordless was so much easier. The vac port goes out perpendicular from the base, but the cord comes out the back, so it makes an annoying loop than can get caught on things.
With a sander, if you’re ever working outside and don’t need a vacuum, then cordless would be awesome. I recently got to try an M18 sander and now I’m going to add a cordless sander when it makes sense.
MFC
If you have your cord taped to your vacuum hose and it’s always like that, then no, cordless isn’t a big deal. But I don’t and a cordless sander is like most cordless tools once you have them: I ain’t going back.
I have both the sheet and random and they are both great and makes me enjoy sanding so much more when I don’t have to pull out an extension cord or have it scuffing the work piece or getting snagged on corners. So nice.
Remember, you can always buy it, try it, and if you don’t like it, return it.
MM
I don’t think it’s a big deal for the sander to be cordless if you’re planning on using it connected to a vac 100% of the time. Like MFC said you can always tape the cord to the vac hose if you find it’s getting in your way. But I often use my sander without the vac, and at that point it’s super handy to have it cordless.
Last year I did some painting around the eaves of my house. There were a few spots where old paint and grime needed to be sanded off before the new stuff could go up, but left my cordless sander at work and I only had my old corded one in the garage. It was a huge pain in the rear to get an extension cord, plug it in, do a little sanding, move the cord to another outlet on the other side of the house, do a little more sanding…move the cord around to a different outlet yet again, sand a little more, etc. Having the cordless sander would have saved me a lot of hassle with that job.
Steve
Koko, I bought the ROS about a year ago and I love it. The dumb little bag on it actually works and I’m sanding outside so I haven’t hooked the vac to it but I’m like MFC. Never going back.
MM
I have to say I’ve been impressed with how well the dust bag works on Dewalt random-orbits, even going back 10+ years with corded models. I abused a three of them to the point of failure sanding steel fabrications touched up with Bondo prior to painting and I never had any gripes about their dust collection ability or lack thereof. That silly little bag works pretty darn well. Every failure I had was the same: when you turned on the sander it seemed like it spun at a million miles an hour, but once touched to the workpiece it had very little torque. Note this applies to the corded models, not cordless. So far my cordless ones have been 100% trouble free.

I picked up a DeWalt 20v oscillating multi tool kit with battery, charger, two blades, accessory adapter, and bag for $99. Seems to be available at home Depot and acme I thought it was a good deal
Jared
A few for Canadians (because I’m always disappointed when I see a Toolguyd post I can’t use 😉):
– Home Depot has the 2 for $50 deal on the Milwaukee packout organzier again (I’ve been waiting a long while for this to return).
– “Ryobi Days” promotion on too.
– Canadian Tire has the Gerber Air Ranger folding knife on for $15 (this is a good price for a cheap knife, but I prefer the Buck Matrixx for about the same price when it goes on sale – you might have to wait a bit though).
– KMS has the Wera 11pc screwdriver set for $55.
HG Forage
I have not been able to find this 2 for $50 packout deal. Can you link it? Maybe it is exclusive to Canada.
Jared

Might be sold out. I’m seeing none in stock now – but it’s in the “gift guide” flyer.
I know it was available online because I bought two – $50 and free shipping. Good deal.
Dustin
I assume you are referring to the Milwaukee organizers in the “Pro” flyer?
Those Milwaukee bins are not Packout. They are the old style 10 compartment part organizers.
Albert
I miss those 25% off coupons from Harbor Freight. I’d be happy with a measily 15% right now.
teicher
I’m hoping for some deals on Kobalt 24Vmax batteries or the fast charger.
Shane Fast
At least as of the other day the dewalt palm sander comes with a free reciprocating saw from Lowe’s. It’s the cheaper 20v model but you can still flip it pretty easily to subsidize the sander.
MM
I noticed that Lowes has marked down the Dewalt 20V Max Midrange 1/2-inch impact wrench (DCF894B) to $149 a few days ago. Northern Tool and Amazon appeared to have followed suit. That’s pretty darn good price, everywhere else seems to be asking at least $199 and many places $249. I picked one up today.
I’d be interested in any good deals on any of the following:
Metabo in general (Not HPT)
Dewalt 20V Max and Flexvolt batteries
Makita LXT cordless bandfile XSB01Z
Milwaukee M12 cordless 90 degree impact driver, 1/4″ hex, no. 2467
Milwaukee M12 cordless 90 degree impact wrench, 1/2″ square, no. 2565
High quality oscillating tool blades
Nate B
I’ve been wanting the Ryobi P590 18v bandsaw, but don’t _need_ it right now so I figured I’d wait for spring sales. Nothin’ doin’ right now, perhaps dads-and-grads promos in a few weeks? If anything I think the price actually went up ten bucks, which isn’t a good sign.
Also the PCF02B fan, there’s _one_ store near me that occasionally shows 1 in stock, but the moment I go to checkout, it shows 0. Hmm. Not upset, I know the supply chain is hurting right now, but dang the previews got me all wanting it and now I can’t have it!
Single-source tools kinda suck, but I’m already deep into the One+ battery system and I really like the line. Ah well, I guess I wait.

Lowe’s also marked down the DCF887b to $99 which seems like a decent deal if you’re looking to upgrade an older driver. (Like me )
MI Dad
Does anyone know if these Milwaukee summer and Memorial Day deals like the “buy m12 inflator get charger and 2.0 batt” work like previous years – i.e. you can return the charger and battery separately and get the tool itself for basically $50-60 after that extra step?
Ex_dtw2003
At places like Home Depot and Lowe’s likely though I wouldn’t try it anywhere else.
Jim Felt
HD has licensed software that identifies the exact source of any return. Partial or complete. So I believe they’re wise to this ploy. Most likely Milwaukee and others have “encouraged” them to quit screwing up both of their collective inventories.
MM
I’m sure this is true if you try and make a return with your receipt or present the same credit/debit card you used to make the purchase. But I know that Lowes–in the past, at least–would allow you to make a return without a receipt, though you get store credit instead of cash back.
Dustin
I’m not sure how it is for you guys in the states, but here in Canada Lowe’s (no receipt return) will sometimes want to know when you purchased it as they appear to try to match it up with something in their system. I’ve had them ask me before and when I said in the last 3 months they said no they hadn’t sold any of that item. So then I said over 3 months ago and they said okay we sold one “x number” months ago was that you?
Home Depot Canada can’t even track my phone number here. I put through all my purchases (cash, credit, debit, customer’s credit) using pro Xtra but if they don’t have a receipt they can’t track it and just give store credit at lowest price in 365 days.
Don Julio
Who would want to return only the free part of a BOGO for a refund? Why would the manufacturer or retailer want to play along?
Julian Tracy
I do that frequently in order to get a great deal on one part after returning the other part. HD specifically calls out each item on a receipt with parenthesis showing exactly how much each item can be returned for – the total deal amount is broken down to each item’s returnable cost.
At Lowes, they do it differently in that the item you bought initially shows up full price and the free item rings up at $0,00.
Don Julio
So the free item gets returned for $0.00?
Julian Tracy
The free item cannot be returned for any money, but ironically enough, the 1st bought item can be returned for full price. You’d think they’d cap that loophole, but it does exist.
MFC
So this is kind of a crazy deal but Ohio Power Tools is giving away an XL Packout for free with $300 worth of shockwave bits and Milwaukee is giving away the 2855p-22 kit when you buy $500 worth of shockwave sockets.
https://www.milwaukeetool.com/E-Rebates/E-Commerce/2021/P2/2021-P2-Shockwave-Impact-Socket-500-Promotion
So my cart has (4) of these:
https://www.ohiopowertool.com/p-25480-milwaukee-43-pc-shockwave-impact-duty-38-drive-sae-metric-6-point-socket-set-49-66-7009.aspx
And 1 of these:
https://www.ohiopowertool.com/p-25479-milwaukee-14-pc-shockwave-impact-duty-38-drive-metric-deep-6-point-socket-set-49-66-7008.aspx
Also they are taking off %10 so my total is $600 with tax and shipping and I will get:
(4) 43 piece socket sets
(1) 14 piece socket set
XL Packout
2855p-22 (1/2″ Impact wrench Kit)
If you need something like this, seems like a great deal and you can sell/gift the extra sets or mix and match any of the other socket sets.

If spotted – Porter Cable polisher (wired) for car detailing. I could use one if anyone sees a deal. Thanks.

It’d be interesting to see some Metabo HPT and/or Bosch deals. Seems like most of their cordless stuff is getting clearanced out at Lowe’s (particularly the Triple Hammer), along with some Bosch and a smattering of Craftsman. Strange times. I’m wondering if this is due to a combination of Flex’s launch, the arrival of a 2nd gen Triple Hammer stateside, or just low sales in general of those brands. Having worked there previously I can attest that DeWalt made up at least 80% of cordless power tool sales a few years back.
MM
I hit Lowes for a DCF894B on Friday. While I was waiting for someone to go get one from the locker area I wandered around the tool section for a bit, it looked like Metabo HPT had maybe 4 feet worth of space in the tool section, a tiny fraction of what they gave to Dewalt and Kobalt. They didn’t seem to have much Bosch either, and it was kind of scattered about here and there rather than having a dedicated spot for it.
Jim Felt
It’s almost like Bosch has no local reps. Very unlike Milwaukee and DeWalt with their color coordinated and wrapped pickups.
Maybe these other kinda also ran brands actually like appearing behind?
MM
I’ve never encountered a Bosch rep. The funny thing is that I’ve never seen a Dewalt rep (or their mythical yellow trucks) either, and I am often at Lowes simply because it’s much closer to where I live and work than HD. On the other hand, on the rare occasion that I make a trip to HD the red Milwaukee truck is nearly always in the parking lot and I often bump into their reps. Despite this, however, Lowes has their Dewalt stuff organized much better than HD has their Milwaukee. I’ll sometimes go there just to get a specific Milwaukee tool and it can be a challenge to find them, even for the rep and HD employees.
fred
Great Lakes Power Tools is often my go to source for the more obscure Milwaukee items:
https://greatlakespowertools.com/
MM
@Fred
Thanks for the suggestion, I’ve bookmarked them for future use. Ironically the tools that HD had a hard time finding were quite common. Stuff like the M12 installation driver, 5 1/2″ circ saw, cordless ratchets, etc. Basic stuff. The issues have been employees constantly re-arranging the store displays, as well as theft. Either the tools are in the store but nobody seems to know where, or they grew legs and walked off.
Nate B
Oh yeah, I’m looking for the European version of the Milwaukee installation driver. The one they sell here has two giant problems: First, the fwd/rev switch is on top, so you need a second hand to change directions. Second, the goofy loop handle means it’s much harder to get into close quarters.
Look at the FPDXKIT-602X, available overseas. This appears to be either an impact driver or hammer drill?!?! with all the right-angle and offset attachment goodness. It’s a little on the bulky side, but still not awkward front handle so I think it’s probably still more maneuverable.
There’s also the (older?) BDDXKIT-202C which seems to have been sold in the UK starting in 2014. It doesn’t appear to have hammer/impact functions, and it’s somewhat more compact. I think this is much closer to the US-version installation driver, and it’s probably the one I’d want if I had a choice.
Anybody got a lead on a stateside importer for these gizmos?
MM
I don’t know of any Stateside importers but I’ve ordered many tools from Amazon UK as well as other UK-based companies and they shipped to the states no problem. Not all sellers will do that, but many will. I’ve also bought UK tools from Ebay.
The FPDXKIT-602X is interesting, the description makes it sound like it could be a hammer drill. Though that makes me wonder how the 90-degree adapter would work. I can’t see how it could transmit the linear impacts of a hammer drill (though obviously it can transmit the rotary impacts of an impact driver). I like how it doesn’t have that front part of the d-handle on the US model but on the other hand the motor assembly at the top of the tool looks much bigger in all dimensions. It’s a trade-off.
The BDDXKIT-202C is more compact but it still looks like the motor part is larger than the US D-handle type.
I wish these types of tools would come with TWO of the 90-degree adapters. By using two of them you can point your bit at any arbitrary forward angle, not just straight or 90 degrees.
Jim Felt
Dang that Euro thing is big! (Kinda ugly too)? I love the US installation version.
I don’t mind the top reverse switch or the dual magnetic bit holder on the front.
I’ve not used my multi-head Bosch unit since I started using this Milwaukee. Or for light weight stuff any other drill driver. Bosch, Hilti or Milwaukee. That said I’ve not needed any of my right angle drills in that time either.
MM
I love my Milwaukee, it’s great. It even gets a lot of use for automotive work. And I have to say that the front of the D-handle very rarely gets in the way.
That said, I really wish it had the more traditional through-the-handle mounted forward and reverse switch compared to the membrane switches on the top. It’s not that they are difficult to reach, it’s that it’s different from nearly every other tool I own.

searching for a deal on the Packout full width low profile organizer. HD had $5 off, but come on world – somebody has to be doing better than that…

Been waiting for a deal on the m12 chainsaw, haven’t seen any since its release
MFC
Ryobi 8″ chainsaw with (2) 4ah batteries for $99 at HD. I know it’s Ryobi but seems like it could fulfill the niche the “hatchet” does.
MM
MAX Tool just announced a $25 off $200 Flash Sale for *ALL* Milwaukee tools for 48 hours. Code MIL25
Alan
Anyone notice some shady sales practices? I had been looking at a Dewalt Heat Gun at HomeDepot, which had been $99. I saw the tool “sales”, went to check and it was at $119 with $20 off 100.
