Home Depot has a hot deal on this Milwaukee M12 cordless pruning tool bundle.
This kit comes with the M12 Fuel Hatchet 6″ pruning chainsaw, M12 brushless pruning shears, (5) batteries of different sizes, and 2 chargers.
I think the price is too low to be true, and there are limited quantities. To me, this seems like a “buy first, think it through later” type of deal.

If you don’t need the chainsaw, the pruning shears kit special buy is a good deal by itself. The tool-only pruner is $199 at Home Depot and elsewhere. $50 more gets you the compact battery and charger in the kit, plus 2 more XC 3Ah batteries. 3 batteries and a charger for $50 more seems like a good deal.
The chainsaw (tool-only) is $249, so that plus the brushless pruner kit and its bonus batteries would be $448.

Home Depot says that they have 61 available, and that this is part of their Labor Day Savings that ends tomorrow.
This looks to be an incredibly good deal. I’ve run through the math a couple of times, and it seems like you save a ton of money on top of already-decent promo savings.
I have a sample of the compact chainsaw, and it’s a very nice size. I also have a test sample of the brushless pruner and am a huge fan.
If I didn’t have access to both tools, I’d pick up this bundle without hesitation.

It’s is depressing shopping HD deals once you got a decent amount of tools, especially if you are focusing on one product line such as M12. I would not planing on buying any bundle that’s included something I don’t need, or already have, and resale later. No not anymore. Not worth it.

An “expensive” Felco pruner is cheaper, likely a lot lighter and easy to sharpen or replace parts. So unless you’re operating in lopper-territory, it’s hard to see the deal in this pruner gizmo.

Yes, and no. A storm knocked a tree branch down, and I used the M12 pruner to break it down.
I use my Felco and other handheld pruners when I need clean precision cuts and control, and the M12 when there’s a high volume of thicker cuts.
For this, there were many small pencil-sized green wood twigs, and the main branch required a couple of thick cuts. The M12 handled it all with relative ease.
My Felco would not have been enough – the larger branches would have been two-handed lopper territory. I could have used a hand tool on the smaller branches, but given the branch’s sprawl, I really didn’t want to.

For cleanup and 1 1/4″ or smaller limbs, that works out. But I’ve found a Fiskar’s extending arms lopper ideal since I can reach in without branches taking my face out.
TIP: if using to prune, get some isopropyl wipes or clorox wipes to sterilize between different species. And I also store my pruners with a light spray of Ballistol, since they will be stored till either next Fall or early Spring before buds show.
Milwuakee says that its pruner is good for 1000 cuts of 1/2″ diameter so that could last a season on a charge. Your experience?

It sips battery power. I typically just grab whatever partially-charged battery I have sitting around. I like not having to think about tools when there’s work to be done, just grab and go.

I had the same opinion on it when a friend asked me about them a year or so ago. Fast forward a few month later they went on sale and I couldn’t resist giving them a try. While they weren’t a perfect fit for every application they were a great option for certain situations. My only complaint is even with a smaller battery I found the balance/ergonomics left something to be desired and holding them for any length of time got uncomfortable. I also still find them to be a bit a scary so when I use them around my yard if it isn’t on my person I take the battery out and pocket it so nobody has an accident…

While not heavy, it’s also not light.
For longer sessions, it’s a tradeoff between hand/finger or arm fatigue. I do like this one better than Dewalt’s.

Stuart, can you give us some insight as to why you prefer the Milwaukee pruner over the Dewalt? I assume it is mostly due to size and weight, as the Milwaukee is a 12 volt and the Dewalt is 20 volt.

Smaller, lighter, more maneuverable.
The Dewalt is good too, but I like the Milwaukee M12 better and reach for it every time.
I’ll be going back and forth between the two next time to see if the Dewalt can change my mind.

Thanks for the heads up. The pruning shears kit is a good deal. I’ve been considering buying one for a while so I ordered one. Using hand held pruners lately irritates the arthritis in my right hand. If you just get the pruning shears kit, it’s the tool, battery, charger, and 2x free bonus batteries for $249. The 5Ah 2-pack is $199, and the chainsaw is $199.
I calculated based on “reasonable person” pricing. Retailers might calculate based on the value of everything separately, but I try to look at “what it would cost me as a shopper today” pricing.

Both of these are on the top of my ‘nice to have’ list. I don’t really need the batteries though. It looks like they’ve been on sale recently for around $150 each with no batteries. Ah, tough call.

Recent “deals of the day” bundled each of these tools with 2x 5.0 batteries for $199. So that would have been $398 for both tools and 4x 5.0 batteries. Better deal if you don’t need the chargers (which most Milwaukee accumulators have in abundance). Of course those deals might not be replicated! So this new Home Depot offer IS very good if you can’t or won’t play the waiting game.

Too bad I’ve already got the pruning shears (they rock) ’cause I’d love to have that chainsaw pruner. I was debating between this set and the Dewalt set and finally decided Milwaukee was the way to go for a number of reasons.

Nice deal, but I don’t need so many batteries. I’d be tempted to jump on it if it only had 2x 5.0 batteries and maybe threw a 4.0 or 6.0 in for free. But if you need batteries, and OPE tools definitely jump on this

I went to a local HD earlier today, to compare the Milwaukee M12 pruning chainsaw with the Dewalt 20v pruning chainsaw. What I ended up with was the Milwaukee M18 Fuel pruning chainsaw, model 3004-21P kit, for $240. Along with the saw, the kit included a multi volt charger and a HO XC6.0 battery.
