Milwaukee Packout XL Tool Box with Top Handle Next to Rolling Drawer Tool Box

Milwaukee Tool quietly launched a new Packout tool box, 48-22-8423, which appears to be the regular XL tool box with a wide top handle.

Technically, this is not a new Packout tool box – it appears to be the same as the one that was exclusively included with the Milwaukee M18 Fuel cordless track saw kit.

Now, from what I can tell, you can buy it separately.

And this isn’t just one retailer having ordered a bunch of Packout tool boxes from the spart parts list; Milwaukee also has it listed on their website as coming soon.

Here’s a quick look comparing the new XL Packout tool box with top handle (left) with the original model.

Also from what I can tell, both will be available.

At Acme Tools, the version with the top handle is priced at $139, which is $10 more than the one without it.

I guess enough people said “I want to be able to buy that tool box separately,” and now you can.

ETA: Feb 2026
Launch Price: $139

If only it had a way to store/attach the track guides to the back or sides… but man that looks like a big container! Can’t wait for the cooler version! 🙂

I appreciate that this is available separately. It’s way too big to store just the track saw kit so I’ve been using it for all my daily cordless tools for a few years now.
A slightly modified “ammo can” packout can snugly fit the track saw, and I have storage on the underside of the lid for the dust bag & 2 blades. Also holds 2 track clamps and a 6.0 battery no problem. Half the footprint and around 1/3 the volume.

That’s elegant. I still have my systainer case for the Makita but feel that even that is grossly space inefficient.

Milwaukee continues to innovate and give people options.

Looking at that last photo….. say you need to run in someone’s house to do a couple things and all the tools you need can fit in either of these cases shown in that last photo, I know which tool case I would grab…. the one on the left, so I can use my other hand to open the door.

At only a $10 difference I wouldn’t be surprised if they stop making the handleless one.

Though I’ll admit to using the metal bars on the side as handles at times on various boxes.
