New Duo-Fast DF150S-TC Tico Nailer

We just got word that Duo-Fast Construction is coming out with a new compact pneumatic 1-1/2″ Tico nailer (DF150S-TC). The nailer is used to fatsen joist hangers into wood using Tico nails. Duo-Fast reps claim that the new nailer works be 3 times faster than hand nailing and twice as fast as palm nailing.

The nailer features a locator prove, making it easy to find the nail hole on metal hardware, a steel rafter hook, adjustable air exhaist, cushion grup and four nail lockout to avoid dry firing.

Duo-Fast has also developed new premium Tico nails to go along with the new nailer for optimal performance.

Joist hanger nailing was first the domain of the hand held hammer – then we discovered that our Bostitch (other brands probably work as well) palm nailers worked – with recently more compact ones from Senco and Grip-Rite being more convenient. Positive placement nailers (we bought a Paslode 5250/65S-PP – which we like uses code-complaint nails – but is heavy) were an odd lot – with their locator tips. Some were just framing nailers with locator tips. Some others (like the Senco HN150 or 250 and similar models with the Grip-Rite name) worked like palm nailers mounted on a frame. Others seemed as large as their framing nailer cousins. None of this was what we really wanted for this application. Bostitch’s Strapshot may not have been the first tool to solve this problem – but when we bought a couple – we were hooked. It would be interesting to see a side by side comparison of what’s out there with this new DuoFast (wonder if sister ITW company Paslode will have a similar product) tool.

    Fred,

Our contact for Paslode informed me that they did come out with a similar tool last year, model # PF150S-PP. The Paslode version has a longer magazine/greater nail capacity, and is described differently as a Positive Placement Metal Connector Nailer.

Here’s more info on the Paslode PF150S-PP.

Your best bet is to check with your Duo-Fast/ITW distributor for purchase information.

It seems that the Duo-Fast brand was absorbed into Paslode. If in your shoes, I’d check with Paslode customer service – they should be able to help you.
