There are an increasing number of pro-focused modular tool box and storage systems.
Here’s a quick summary of how things are looking so far at the start of 2026.

Bosch L-Boxx – The L-Boxx system has been stale for a while, aside for recent adoption by Tekton. A new L-Boxx Contractor system is launching this year in the USA, starting with a 3pc tool box combo.

Dewalt ToughSystem – Dewalt added large-format DXL components to the system a year and a half ago. The core system remains well-featured at a lower price point, but lacks a lot of the expansion options offered by competing systems.
Aside from the large DXL workstation components, Dewalt last expanded the ToughSystem modular tool box system around 3 years ago.

Dewalt Tstak – Dewalt has not expanded their compact tool box and organizer system in many years, but users can find some additional options in the Craftsman VersaStack line.

Flex Stack Pack – Flex last expanded its Stack Pack tool box line around a year and a half ago, with a rolling drawer tool box. It is unclear whether the tool storage line is still in development – it seems Flex barely paid any attention to the storage system since their last major expansion in 2023.

Klein Mod Box – Klein’s latest Mod Box expansion features a rework of their core tool boxes. We’ve seen additions to the line at a steady pace since its launch, including some components with unique functionality for electricians.
Further changes or additions might be forthcoming, pending the results of patent infringement legal complaints made against the company.

Hilti ProKit – Hilti launched their ProKit modular tool storage system just a few months ago. They could not provide any official details yet, but we expect for the first expansion to take place later this year.
ProKit hinged-lid tool boxes offer an improved user experience compared to most other designs.

Makita MakPac – There have not been many additions to this Systainer-compatible line of tool cases. New Makita power tool battery charging cases are launching later this year.

Makita MakTrak – Makita launched its MakTrak line of tool boxes and organizers last year, with its larger format focused on transportability and ease of access. With the system so new, it is fair to expect that expansion products are currently under development.

Milwaukee Packout – Milwaukee Packout is still the largest and most actively-expanding line of modular tool storage products, with multiple launches already announced for 2026.
I have bought into numerous tool storage systems over the years and have since moved to Milwaukee Packout for its organizers, drawer tool boxes, mobility options, accessories, and unique offerings.
In my opinion, Packout continues to be the best and most versatile modular tool and part storage system, and it looks like that won’t be changing anytime soon.

Ridgid Pro Gear 2.0 – Ridgid last expanded the Pro Gear 2.0 modular storage system around 2 years ago, adding more drawer tool box options to their Home Depot-exclusive lineup.
There are some unique aspects to Ridgid’s approach that offer improved versatility, but development seems to have come to a standstill.

ToughBuilt StackTech – ToughBuilt has not expanded their StackTech line of tool storage products in the USA in several years, but availability seems to be growing internationally.

At first glance the latching mechanism on the Tekton is quite different from Bosch. The former seems to be more unique with the laches are on the side only and the handles are at the bottom of the boxes. The later seems quite different.

Will anyone who finds/discovers any components of the HUSKY “Build-Out” system please notify the nearest University Archeological Department. It would be the “find” of the decade!
