Reader Tool Picks 9-29-25

Here are a bunch of tools and accessories that readers have deemed worthy of buying from Amazon recently.

It’s a mix of tool deals, cool finds, and interesting picks that were logged in our anonymous Amazon affiliate orders list.

I always find it interesting to see what readers are buying from Amazon, and figure you’d feel the same.

Please let me know if you’d like to see posts like this more often.

Dewalt Cordless Vacuum Deal

Amazon has the Dewalt DCV501HB 20V Max cordless hand vac for $99. It’s a great vacuum – just be sure to keep on top of cleaning the filter – and apparently readers are loving the price.

Dewalt Tstak Long Handle Tool Box

An active clickable coupon code brings the price of this handy tool box down to $23. It’s an excellent tool box, either standalone or part of the Dewalt Tstak modular system.

Irwin 10″ Curved Jaw Locking Pliers

These are a good value-priced go-to. Want something different? I like the reverse lever design of Grip-on pliers.

Klein 11-in-1 Multi-Bit Screwdriver

You can’t go wrong with this one. There are others for more or less money, but the Klein remains a classic.

Gerber Prybrid Multi-Tool Utility Knife

I wasn’t fond of the blade change design, but others have had better luck. I’ve seen variation in Gerber products before, so maybe it’s gotten better over time. Some of you bought this recently – please let me know how you like it.

Big Gator Tools SAE Drill Guide

I consider this a “buy it for life” type of accessory that does come in handy. Made in USA.

Vessel Ball Grip Bit Holder (Orange)

I love these! See Vessel’s Awesome Mini Ball Grip Screwdriver Handle and Bit Carrier.

Here are more color options: Black | Red | Green | Purple

What sets these Vessel ball grip holders apart from cheaper or generic bit holder keychains is how you can also use it as a stubby screwdriver.

Engineer Compact Scissors

These are excellent. Made in Japan. Look at some of the product images to get a sense for the size, as these are true to the claim of being “compact scissors.”

Klein 27-in-1 Precision Multi-Bit Screwdriver

I’m not very familiar with this one. Is it any good?

Worx 4V Cordless Screwdriver

I’ve been looking at this one too. The compact case, USB-C charging, and torque clutch add to its appeal.

Hoto 24-in-1 Multi-Bit Screwdriver

I also haven’t tried Hoto tools yet, but have to admit they look very… what’s the word – modern? I added the turquoise model to my wishlist.

Dewalt 20V Max 3-Speed XR Brushless Hammer Drill with PowerPack Battery Kit

This is one of the best 18V-class cordless drills you can get right now. Home Depot and Lowe’s both have it at $349, Amazon has it for $309 ($349 minus $40 at checkout).

Tsunoda Ultra Thin Slip Joint Pliers

I’ve been exploring this brand recently (see These Ultra Thin Angled Jaw Pliers Could be a Problem-Solver) and so far have been pleased.

ColorConnex Quick Connect Coupler and Plug Kit 1/4″ NPT

I like these too. Be careful when shopping for the smaller assortments – I’m seeing that Amazon defaults to faster-shipping 3rd party sellers at higher prices. The “sold by and shipped by Amazon” 14pc starter kit is slightly backordered but a good introductory set.

Milton has a similar set for less money. I have used Milton air fittings before, but not this exact style.

Dewalt Thermal Insulated Work Gloves

What are 2-in-1 work gloves???

Malco Locking C-Clamps with Swivel Pads (11″)

Some people also ordered the same size but without swivel pads.

Vessel 5pc Impact Ball Torsion Long Bit Set

Fantastic choice! See: Upgrade Your Tool Kit with Vessel Impact Ball Screwdriver Bits

I bought that vacuum recently. It was a big upgrade from the DCV517B it replaced. I even started using it around my house – pretty handy to vacuum my stairs or for a quick cleanup when I don’t want to untangle the central vac hose.

Lee Valley makes a small drilling guide with a V-design to fit multiple bits. Just something someone might want to consider as an alternative. Less precise obviously, but cheaper and more pocketable too.

A previous coworker had that Klein 27-in-1 mini multi bit screw driver.

He liked it, but I had some reservations about the overall shaft size. In terminal connections within electrical control cabinets, the shaft tends to be a little large, which can interfere with some wire screw access.

As far as the Klein 11-in-1, I fully swapped the Klein parts over to a harbor freight Quinn 10-in-1. Everything about the shaft and bits are the same. But Klein offers replacements, HF doesn’t.

And most importantly, it provides a tactile difference for blind tool grabbing, something that has led me to dread having a tool belt full of Klein screwdrivers.

And in regards to DeWalt’s 2-in-1 winter gloves, they appear to be referencing an outer and inner layer to the glove, but it doesn’t appear to be removable layers. Like most cold gloves of that type. So really just a marketing exercise.

Just pulled the trigger on the Tsunoda pliers with your links. Checks 2 box’s – ultra thin and offset jaws.

    Thanks!

The gloves are two-in-one *cold weather protection* – basically they’re an inner glove and an outer waterproof glove combined together.

A couple of points on the Big Gator Tools drill guide:

    – The link above sends you to the real deal, but beware of what looks like a knockoff on Amazon, which is not sold by BigGatorTools.

    – I just ordered the guide directly from Big Gator Tools instead. It is on sale for $19.95, plus 10% discount plus free shipping = $17.75. So $4 cheaper than Amazon, and you are directly supporting an American company.

The Big Gator ones are worth the extra over the cheaper knock offs. I needed to drill a LOT of holes centered on a rod, and I already had the Big Gator, but got one of the knock offs so my brother could help me and we could each be drilling a hole at the same time. Long story short, by the time we were done, the knock off had worn some to a ‘loose’ fit on the dril bit, but the Big Gator was still like new. Granted most people won’t use them as much as we did, but you can spend a few $$ more and get a lifetime tool.

Is the Klein 11-1 still made in the USA?
Could not find the info on the amazon page.

I don’t believe so. I purchased one a year ago when I was putting together a housewarming tool kit gift. I have a photo of the front of the packaging and there’s no mention of USA manufacturing. Klein usually does display this on their packaging card fronts for tools that are made here.

It’s possible it has mixed origins (e.g. USA handle, imported bits), but it’s hard to say. I’m going to assume it’s imported until I can find another one to check.

That vac looks nice but storing all those pieces looks like a pain. Great for home not so much if you want to take it with you. It’s nearly as dumb as their inflator which despite being a contractor brand takes 15 mins to raise a 22.5” tire 10 psi. Nobody has that time or that much battery. It’s great for harry homeowner, but dewalt is a pro line not black and decker.

I do love amazon though. Lowe’s won’t match them without asking. Home Depot at least does and will ship it free. At least they try. Lowe’s doesn’t care if they lose sales.

I’d hope the gloves are 2-in-1. I’d hate to order those and receice only a right or a left.

    I’ll see myself out.

I prefer this Klien precision screwdriver over the one you have listed. I had one like that, and after a while of bouncing around in my tool kit, the bit holders weren’t as secure as I liked. Nothing like opening up the bit storage to have a couple of them just fall out, never did find a couple of them.
So far, this one has yet to lose a bit, but now that I said that one will probably fall out tomorrow, LOL.

A slightly different version of that Worx 4v screwdriver (less accessories I think?) was on clearance at Sam’s Club for about $17. Couldn’t resist the price and got one to try out.

Also ordered the Dewalt vac for work use.
