SmartJars – a New Pegboard Organizer System

SmartJars Pegboard Modular Organizers

SmartJars are these new modular organizes designed for use with standard pegboard panels. They are comprised of a pegboard dock and removable cylindrical container with folding lid.

Over at this year’s NYC World Maker Faire, the folks at SmartJars were giving away samples, so we had a chance to take a pair home for testing.

The Good

The plastic SmartJars containers are made from durable polypropylene and are clear and easy to see into. Their lids pop on and off with ease, but not unless you want them to.

The Bad

For my uses, SmartJars are a bit large. SmartJars are slightly thinner and a little shorter than standard 12 oz soda cans. I tried popping a soda can into the SmartJars’ pegboard docking component, but they don’t quite fit in all the way.

SmartJars’ designers relayed that users have been asking for larger versions of their pegboard-mountable bins, and that they would probably tackle this before turning their attention towards designing shorter ones. Darn.

KickStarter

SmartJars Kickstarter Campaign

Now, through Nov 5th, 2013, SmartJars’ designers are looking to fund their product deployment via Kickstarter.

  • $30 gets you a 12-pack of SmartJars in your choice of color
  • $36 gets you a 12-pack in a mix of colors
  • $50 gets you a 25-pack in your choice of color
  • $60 gets you a 25-pack in a mix of colors
  • $100 gets you a 50-pack in your choice of colors
  • $120 gets you a 50-pack in a mix of colors

Color options: white, grey, yellow, red, blue, and black. This corresponds to the pegboard dock color, the removable containers are all going to be clear.

This product works with standard pegboard, which SmartJars’ team clarifies to mean 1/8″-thick panels with 1/4″ holes.

The SmartJars are fantastic and I love my marketing samples. I have also backed their Kickstarter project. Others have also commented that the jar is a bit large for small objects. I’ve got 2, 3, and 4 partition designs made that work very nicely for these situations. Feel free to check out the 4-partition 5 pack on etsy! https://www.etsy.com/listing/169176166/smartjars-four-compartment-insert-5-pack?

Now I need to find pegboard that’s nicer than the stuff they sell at Home Depot!
