Deal: Stanley PowerLock Tape Measure Bonus Bundle

Stanley PowerLock Tape Measures Bonus Pack

I’m sure there’s an adage that says something along the lines of one can never have too many tape measures. If not, there should be.

An extension of that saying would be there is no such thing as too many tape measure deals.

The Stanley PowerLock tape measure was one of the first tools I posted about on ToolGuyd. Now, about 6 years later, I am still just as fond of these tried-and-true tape measures.

This special bundle comes with a 25-foot tape measure and a 16-foot tape, for $9.88. The 25-foot tape by itself is typically priced at $10-12. That essentially makes this a “buy one get the other for free” type of promo.

These tapes, or at least maybe just the 25-footer, might still be made in the USA. In the past, when I bought larger Stanley PowerLock bundles at Home Depot, the 25-footer was still made in the USA, “with global and domestic parts.”

If interested, you can buy a Stanley tape measure promo pack in-store, or online with in-store pickup as the only other option right now.

Buy Now(via Home Depot)
Compare(via Amazon)

It seems that this promo bundle is replacing the 25′, 16′, 12′ and 3′ bundles that used to hit Home Depot shelves every year around this time. Still, $10 for two solid tape measures – regardless of where they’re made – is a pretty good deal.

Looking for something else? There are a couple other tape measure deals this time of year. Either check out our tape measures category, Black Friday 2014 category, or deals section.

I was able to grab one of the 25,16,12,3 packs in March by ordering through the online system for local stores that listed it as being in stock. What a bahgain! Even two of these tape measures for $10 is a good deal.

The 25′ and longer PowerLock tapes and all of the new style PowerLock tapes are still made here With Global Materials(TM) for whatever it’s worth.

I was kind of disappointed not to see the old combo package come back this year. My 12′ and 16′ need replacing and these PowerLocks hold up pretty well without being huge and heavy.

I picked one of these up this weekend, and I wanted to pass on a couple of observations: one, the 25-footer is, as Mike said, “Made in USA with global materials.” On the package description of the 16-footer, though, there’s a sticker over the “Made in Mexico” section saying “Made in France,” which is interesting. I can’t see any real difference between the two, however the locking mechanism on the 16-footer is terrible. A gentle push or pull will move the tape! I don’t know if it’s only mine, but if it bugs me in using it over the next week or so, I’ll take it in for an exchange.

Secondly, I didn’t realize it til I touched them, but neither of them have a metal case! They’re both, per Stanley’s website, chrome plated ABS plastic. The 12-ft/3.5m tape I got from Menards a month or so back has a metal case, but it seems nothing longer than that still does. I hadn’t bought a tape measure in probably 10 years, so I’m not sure if that’s common knowledge, but it surprised me. That being said, I’m pretty happy; both of them feel well made to me, and the blades have good standout (7′ for the 25, 4 1/2′ for the 16). If the locking problem on the 16′ isn’t widespread, this is a good deal.

I noticed the “Made in France” sticker on the back of the packaging as well. Strange, but not completely surprising, as Facom – which is based in France – is also a SBD company. Maybe their facilities were involved with the manufacturing.

Picked this up tonight, they work great, excellent tapes for the price. I did compare the 25 foot to my 20 year old 30 foot power lock. Both are plated plastic, noticeable difference in weight in your hand, the new one is lighter. Locking mechanism works excellent on all.

I also compared to a 21 year old lever lock 16 footer I have, about the same weight on your hand as the new 16 footer.

Thanks for the heads up on these.
