This Sunex Screwdriver Bit Set has a Lot of Sizes

Sunex 208pc Screwdriver Bit Set

Over at at Amazon, this Sunex 208pc screwdriver bit set is described as being a full master set ideal for various applications.

Sunex doesn’t provide a full breakdown of this set, model 9729 – at least not that I can find – but they do say it comes with the following 1/4″ hex screwdriver bit styles:

  • Hex
  • Tamperproof hex
  • Star (Torx)
  • Tamperproof star (Torx)
  • 5-lobe tamperproof star
  • Triwing
  • Spanner slotted
  • Phillips
  • Pozidrive
  • RObertson
  • Torq
  • Nut Setters

The selection includes 1-inch insert bits and 2-inch power bits, plus 2 styles of bit holders.

I’m not sure this is a “full” set, but it does have a lot of sizes and styles for all kinds of projects. Correction: going by the list of styles and sizes that I found (included below), I’m not sure if any are missing.

At the time of this posting, the price is $66, with a clickable coupon that drops it down to under $59.

Buy it at Amazon

Amazon’s “Rufus” is useless too. Ask it what sizes it comes with, and it’ll say it works with “screws, bolts, and nuts that are 1/4″ in size.”

Update: I found a list of the sizes in the description to Sunex’s YouTube video.

I’ve been thinking about taking out of my Veto Pro bag all the drivers with handles (screwdrivers, metric nutdrivers, SAE nutdrivers, Torx drivers, misc stuff), and replacing it with a few handles and a bit set like this:

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KC26J8S?th=1
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084BX1BSP/?th=1

I can avoid the 1″ bits which I dislike, usually, and add in the Wiha metric & SAE nutdriver bits, too. And they’ll all work with my smaller 12VDC drivers, too, and ratchets.

What I’m thinking about doing is very similar to what this kit’s trying to do except for the 1″ bits. Especially with the case, I can avoid loose bits, sack o’ bits, all the chaos.

(Haven’t settled on anything yet – dunno if any of these bits are worth a dang.)

A couple of bit kits, a couple of handles, a ratchet, a battery driver, and I get expanded flexibility and less weight from so many handles.

Those long shaft bits are great, unfortunately there are just some times when you absolutely need a standard handle screwdriver. For some reason normal screwdrivers just allow more angle than a ratchet does, no matter how long the bit is.

I did try what you are suggesting and it is the dream (but I tried it with “normal” length bits to save even more room). Guess what, my auto box is full up again with handled screwdrivers….

Good thread guys. I’m always looking for long bit sets that don’t cost me a fortune.

I hadn’t considered that torquing at a bit of an angle is where the dedicated screwdrivers have the advantage. Great point.

Though I’ve been thinking about trying that wiha centrofix which reportedly holds the bit very tight.

That’s a great handle for sure, and that new Klein ball handle is excellent too.

Has anyone had experience with these to assess quality? Or is this something you just keep for the occasional use?

I would assume at this price point it is a “get you out of trouble” set rather than “I will use this TS20 bit every day” kind of set.

There are 2 types of screwdriver bits. “hmm, what do I need here?” and “I need a [specific style and size] for 200 screws.”

This is a variety assortment for stuff that comes up, in my mind meant to save you trips to the store or the wait for online orders.

Yes indeed. These are the kind of full sets that we buy based on speculative need, Then – if you’re like me, in something like 70 years of buying tools, you hardly ever use more than a few of the pieces.

In our fabrication shop toolroom – we thought that we had a pretty complete assortment of driver bits – many more styles than in this Sunex kit – but then some assembly would come in with a new (or old) fastener we had not previously encountered. Some styles of driver-screw engagement do seem to come in and out of favor – and some manufacturers use particular styles to either enhance security or improve performance. Aircraft assemblies and consumer electronics come to mind as applications for specialized drivers.

Exactly. I have two types of bits – use all the time and have tens of them, or THE CASE which will have what I need or I’ll know why.

Rarely do I have to open the case.

On certain tool discussing forums, the Sunex brand has a respectable reputation for making good impact sockets at a decent price. That’s not saying cheap. It’s more like saying under appreciated or under valued. Acme Tools handles the brand, and I think that says something on its own.
Some of the impact socket sets that Sunex sells are very complete, and it’s my intention to buy a set to try someday.

Wish they just sold the case. 1″ bits for security bits and lot of slots there for 2″ bits, (Often my preferred length) and all those hex slots would be handy. I have multiple small cases (different brands) and a Makita case 1/2 that size. Keep it all in a bag but it’s not handy. (Was in my mind, but not in reality)

You can always buy a Dewalt Large ToughCase (via HD), dump the bits into a spares bin, and then fill it in as you please.

      There’s a medium-sized set as well.

It’s often more economical to get a case with bits and rails than to go the “customized bit case” route. I wouldn’t go with blow molded though.

This is good advice. Exactly what I did. That big Dewalt ToughCase even accepts the bit holders in the lid. It also attaches to T-Stak or toughsystem with a T-Stak adapter. Managed to fit every 1/4 hex drive set I could need in it, torx, allen, security bits, as well as hex shank drill bits and all of the regular bits/extensions.

I have a neighbor who has this set and he speaks well of them. He told me they are made with S2 steel and after almost 2 years he still has all the pieces and they all still work. He did say and showed me that he had some issues with the container itself and has done a few duct tape repairs to keep it useful. He also has with the kit a Bosch 12v screw gun and a Wiha driver. He got the Bosch not too long ago as his M12 brushed tool finally died.

A set like this is good to cover all your bases. Your neighbor probably has not used 70% or more of the bits. A small percentage got used in an oddball situation you need “that” bit, and the rest get used regularly…Philips, torx square and a few others.

I have a similar set, rarely use them, but if I need security torx or something else, I have it.

    Found a similar

    >Craftsman Ultimate Screwdriver Bit Set – 208 pcs

which is apparently discontinued, but is widely available on eBay with prices ranging from “bargain” through “price-gouging based on fondness for the Craftsman name and expecting U.S. made”

I bought a Wheeler Gunsmithing kit and add-on a a while back along with a “Security bit set” which was being clearanced at Harry Epstein — having them all in one case might be nice, but I’m having trouble justifying this.

Naturally, what I _really_ want is either a PB Swiss or Chapman Manufacturing Master Set…. I’d be interested in a review of an assortment of these, esp. if it included a photo of the closed cases stacked from large–small, with the bit count labeled.

There are no shortage of sets like this. PB Swiss has assortments too, but you won’t like the price – they’re far from complete and $4 to $5 per bit.

Their largest looks to be an 80pc set for over $300. https://www.amazon.com/PB-C6-791-TB-PrecisionBits-Tamperproof/dp/B0CXFB73B3/?tag=toolguyd-20 .

Chapman has plenty of sets – https://www.amazon.com/s?me=A29YT8079PEQ8C&tag=toolguyd-20 .

There are different reasons to go with various brands. In my mind, Sunex is a “save me a trip to the store” set, while I’ve bought specific PB Swiss bits for deliberate project use where I might have dozens of hundreds of fasteners that will be driven by hand and sometimes non-impact cordless tools.

These are good bits BUT they are not for impact tools. I used the bit holder and it got twisted inside from the impact driver (Panasonic 1/4″ bit holder, EY7540 Impact 14v). I have another set with security bits that also, is not impact rated and same thing happened to the bit holder.

While nice to have so many useful bits, best in a “driver” and not impact tool. Also work well in hand-held bit driver.

(I cringe when I watch Youtubers and they use an impact driver with “chrome” sockets…. and an adapter! … ugh)

Sunex makes good stuff and reasonable but Chinese as far as I know. Sort of like a cheaper gearwrench. If you need a special size something they probably have it.

Acme has the same 15% off deal and lists this set as made in Taiwan, for what that’s worth. Sunex has moved a lot of production to China lately.
