Super Secret Craftsman Hand Tools Deal 10-28-2019

I seem to have stumbled across some kind of super-secret Craftsman mechanics tool deal at Amazon. Maybe it’s not super secret, but I don’t see it advertised anywhere, and I only discovered it thanks to a little alert on the product page of the Craftsman swivel ratchet.

You see, I was price-checking the Craftsman ratchets when finishing up my deal post on the Gearwrench Roto Ratchet set when I saw a “save $10 off $50+” deal highlighted by a little button. Clicking “more info” took me to a landing page with 14 select Craftsman hand and mechanics tool products.

Spend $50+ on any of these 14 qualifying tools, and you save $10 at checkout.

None of the eligible tools are what I’d consider “run don’t walk” tools, but maybe there’s something you could use, such as the 21pc socket extension and adapter set. Or maybe you want the full-polish swivel-head ratchet and a set of tamper-proof Torx bit sockets.

Between these two images, that’s all of the Craftsman tools and sets eligible for the promo.

Amazon says that the promo ends 11/25/2019.

I do like SBD tools, but I truly do not get their business approach.

I really want the 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2″ swivel head craftsman ratchets, but $35 for 3/8″ is too much. If the $10 coupon applied to that ratchet, I would get it.

I looked up the tools that I have on my “nice to have, but don’t have yet” list, and they are all cheaper elsewhere, even with the $10 off. for example: the adjustable wrench is $20 less at lowes.

A better wrench set than the raised panel 32 piece is also significantly cheaper elsewhere. The 32 piece raised panel set is 22 full size wrenches and 5 each ignition wrenches. A full polish 52 piece set is only $65, and has 32 full size wrenches (up to 7/8″ or 20mm) and all 20 ignition wrenches.

That 289 piece craftsman mechanics set is on clearance at my local lowes for ~$147. It is on an endcap next to the new TSTAK set. It isn’t exactly fair to compare a clearance price to normal though. I almost got one for a christmas present for a friend; I may change my mind because it is a fantastic deal if someone has use for it.

Craftsman pricing is still ridiculous. For the price of that 1-1/2″ flex head ratchet(sans coupon) I was able to get the 4 piece gear wrench set with a much higher tooth count. You can get a husky extension/accessory set for half the price of that craftsman, etc etc. It’s like they think you should pay USA made prices for non USA made tools.

I’m guessing it’s to keep pricing steady for when the USA stuff comes online. If there was a massive increase in price I’m guessing many might be turned off by sticker shock. Though I agree, pricing for what’s on the shelf now is what I’d expect to pay for USA tools, not imports.

Do note, though, that the $35 Husky set is missing 2 of the longest extensions (and 2 shortest, for what its worth). These will run you $39.

So, Husky is $74, vs Craftsman at $60 (70-10).

      Craftsman pricing is cheaper.

Remember that home owners toolset post a few days ago?

This sale has what *should* have been sold alongside the drill.
