This Veitorld “12-in-1” survival tool kit is once again on sale at Amazon, and for less than you can buy Harbor Freight’s lookalike set for.
I’d never buy this tool kit – it all looks very cheap to me – but it was extremely popular with readers when I posted about a similar sale a year ago.
At the time of this posting, Amazon has the Veitorld set for $32.99, or $19.79 after you “clip” the coupon. Relatively speaking, this seems to be a good price.

Harbor Freight’s Gordom 12pc “emergency survival kit” is $27.99 right now. Even if you snagged a 20% coupon, which I haven’t seen in a while, the Veitorld kit at Amazon is still less expensive by a couple of dollars.
If you look closely, Harbor Freight says that their $28 kit is 15% lower than the same exact Veitorld that’s discussed in this post, but that doesn’t take into account the coupon code that drops the price from $33 to below $20.

Like I said, it looks a bit junky to me – I wouldn’t buy it. But, I also can’t recommend alternatives for anywhere close to the same low price. This gives you a lot of cheap tools for less than $20.
A lot of readers bought this kit previously, and so far I haven’t heard any complaints. Amazon’s reviews also seem very positive. Maybe my hesitations are unfounded. I’m still not ready to give it a try, but I thought readers would be interested in the discounted price.
While you’re at it, get some Band-Aids – at the least, they’re good to add into any “survival” or wilderness tool or gear kit, but also because almost everything in the survival tool kit looks sharp and pointy.

Hoo-boy what can I say.
The people that like this have never used it. The ones that have used it give it one star (because zero stars is not an option)
All you’re going to do with junk like this is hurt yourself.
Everyone would be far better off putting together a kit that suits their needs – and it will have a fraction of the parts here.
Yes, you need:
Emergency blanket
Good flashlight
Top quality knife
Decent screwdriver set
Good pliers
Scissors that work
Reflective vest or sash
You don’t need:
Cheak compass
Knife that breaks
Flashlight that isn’t as bright as a candle
Pen/knife/ice pick/hammer combo
Etc
You really just need a few good useful tools – full size and single duty. All that EDC crap does nothing well. Does it help to have a tool with 648 functions and it can’t do any one of those properly?

I think the appeal is that you get a bunch of outdoor tools without having to spend hours researching just some of the types of items for multiple times the price.

Most EDC and cheap “Survival” gear is just mall ninja stuff for slightly stuffier people.

Concur that most of that stuff is fluff. A real outdoorsman already has most of that gear, in quality and useful form, and if you’re putting together an emergency car kit, for example, half of that is overkill. I make sure that everyone in my family has a space blanket, knife, flashlight, basic tools, and glass breaker in their car–and a jump pack and tire pump, natcherly–but beyond that, there’s not much more you really need.
This is a cute gimmick I’d buy for a young boy scout, to get them interested in making their own down the line, if they haven’t already.

A “car emergency kit” is much more practically stocked with things you may actually NEED commonly (like a change of clothes and underwear, for example) and other miscellaneous supplies of the “nice to have” (think first aid kid, long-lasting snacks, etc).
Every time I encounter a situation and I think “it would be nice to have X right now” I make a note and see if it can be added.

Maybe but sometimes you need some rope, a cutting tool, etc.
I think I got the last one that was reasonable and put in back of SUV. That and my M18 Fuel tire inflator. I also recommend a first aid kit and get an empty plastic coffee grounds container (red or blue one) that you can put in a gallon ziplock bag an entire roll of TP in, along with any feminine products (for wife/GF/daughter), some dudewipes or similar, and even a few lifestraws. I also have a bin of poison IVY products like oitments, IvyDry, and Benadryl spray.
Because traffic accidents happen and you could be in traffic for hours… mother nature doesn’t wait.

Well said. These are basically toys, only good for getting a young lad or girl interested in this kind of thing, maybe they would learn early on the value of putting together your own kit, with a few real tools.

Might be an overly cautious response to NJ knife laws. I’m not sure anything here actually breaches them, though the spork-knife is possibly the least practical bladed object I have ever encountered.

I guess this cheap set might be better than nothing. I would surely combine it with a first aid kit. Harbor Freight inside track members get 30% off items under$30. I think it’s in the middle of a current two day sale!
