Veto Pro Pac, now owned by the same private equity firm as Malco Tools (see Veto Pro Pac SOLD to Private Investment-Owned Malco Tools) has teased that something big is coming. We now know that the “something big” is a new line of Veto EVO tool bags and pouches.
The new Veto Evo tool bags have mounts on both sides to which users can fasten any of the new line of pouches.
The Evo system docks can also accommodate other tools with belt clips, such as tape measures.

I can’t see any other notable differences compared to existing Veto products, aside from the Evo mounting clips.

You can mix and match the pouches as needed.
The setup above features the Tech Pac Evo ($410), a tool pouch ($95 to $125), and what looks to be the large zippered pouch ($95). As shown, my estimate puts it at $600 to $630, depending on the size of the tool pouch (I can’t really tell).
There are several other Evo tool bags, and from what I can tell they’re all appreciably more expensive than the non-Evo equivalents. The price for the smallest bag went from $210 (non-Evo) to $260 (Evo). From what I can tell, the only major difference is that Veto removed the side tool and accessory holders on both sides and replaced them with Evo tool pouch receivers.
This launch seems very underwhelming to me. What are your thoughts?

I’ve not seen how easily/securely this system connects? If its too loose and the fully loaded pouches fall off that’s not good, if its too secure or needs two hands then it might discourage its purpose of removing them at all?
I think this will meet a very specific requirement somebody who wants to walk to site with everything they need, but not on their belt. They then put on their belt pouches, complete work, take them off, reattach them to the pack and walk back off site again?
Jared
I’m trying to understand the clips too. Modularity at this price point (yikes) seems like a necessary feature. I’m hoping they at least came up with something elegant that both secures and removes easily.

Very cool, I wish I could justify needing one.

The new pouches are cool since with magnets on them allow you to hang them off metal. Since they came out with spmc and the magnetic pouches many people wanted that on there regular sized pouches. They did that and for hvac professional theres a great metal pannel everywhere. A expensive meter sc680 they even made a super tall one at nearly 13in tall. As a daily mp2x user I love the idea of hanging my pouch on a magnet instead of the kickstand. Expensive yes but theres clearly a active market that makes money with there tools wanting this.

While im likeley to get the “meters have magnetic straps already” comment the case holds keeps rain weather sun glare direct sunlight ect off it. Not too much to ask to protect a expensive meter eith a 100ish dollar handy pouch.

The efficient move would be to standardize everything – mounting brackets on all tool bags and clips on all pouches.
That’s what ToughBuilt did, and you can choose to use the clips at any time.
The worst thing would be to buy a bag now and then decide later you want a pouch. Maybe there are ways to connected the pouches to older bags?
I really expected more. I also don’t see why the prices increased so much.

Sadly if you’ve kept your eye on veto many of the pouches and bags have seen a slight price increase. On the toughbuilt side of things they had alot of years to catch on and become king of tool pouches who knows where they are at now. With the popularity of individual pockets tool walls neoprene pockets they could have learned alot about layout. Also I dont recall if you ever saw prolock pouches but with a small amount of modding the clips are all metal and will fit the toughbuilt system. All just lessons and shortcomings to meet a price point which I bet tons of people would be willing to spend more if it met there needs better.

The toughbuilt clips are really really bad though, every time I need to undo one it feels like I’m going to break it. Their line of pouches is nothing special either, the modularity of them is nice, but some of the design choices on them is weird. The quality is just OK, not premium like veto, but that’s reflected in the price, with toughbuilt being reasonably cheap, and veto being eye wateringly expensive.

The Melotough clips are superior to Toughbuilt.

Thoes melotough clips like all there stuff is a straight up clone of spyder pin system. Granted there much cheaper its hard to support such a blatant copy of design from a smaller ish company. Metlotouch really dosent care they will copy anything with malice.

I was kinda interested in these and then (as you mentioned), Malco bought them out. Just waiting to see how the cost/Quality changes.
In the meantime, I got the Milwaukee bag and really happy with it.

The $50 upcharge on the base bags makes no sense. They removed some stuff and replaced it with a couple pouch holders. That’s probably a wash from a cost standpoint. And even if it does cost slightly more there’s no reason to add it to the price of the bags. Would make more sense to sell the bags for the same price as the regular ones, then make the money on pouches, rather than do something which is obviously greedy.
RD
It’s really hard to see this as anything other than a money grab. Veto’s bags have always been expensive, but you could usually at least see their logic behind things costing more. With a buyout so recently, I’m starting to think the one tech-bag I purchased almost 10 years ago from them is (while very good) likely the last I can justify, price wise.
Joel
Are they made here, or imported? If they are imported, would the increase in tariffs account for the increase in price?
Jim Felt
A very good question. Though as I recall they haven’t been made in the U.S. in very long time. If ever?
As these “new” items can’t be part of any previously imported product inventory clearly the elevated import duties would need to be passed through over the up charged cost.
And as a fairly small company how could they not? Fortunately my Vetos are still going strong and I’m not (yet?) affected by these political tariff shenanigans.
Daniel
Most Veto bags are made in Myanmar and China. There are a few Veto products made in the USA as well, but not many.

Honestly?
Looks like about what I’d expect from VETO getting bought out by private equity.
Raise prices, reduce functionality. Force folks to buy more for the same functionality as before.
Pops
All I want is for them to bring back the OT-XXL, but obviously I’m in the minority. What can I say? I don’t like making multiple trips.

I’d love to get that little M12 drill holster, but I’ll just cheap out on an Uncle Mikes and deal with the floppy top
Nate
If they were Toughbuilt Cliptech compatible, I’d be interested. But yet another incompatible ecosystem is just an insult, knock it off already.
