Walmart Jumped into the Mini Tool Box Craze

Hyper Tough Mini Tool Boxes at Walmart

A reader informed me (thanks Vards!) that Walmart has launched their own Hyper Tough mini tool boxes. I took a look, and both the top tool chest and mini cabinet might be too good to pass up.

That’s right – there’s a 2-drawer tool chest with opening lid, and also a separate 2-door cabinet.

The colors look great!

Each of the new Walmart mini tool box is (or will be) available in a range of colors, such as black, white, red, pink, blue, green, gray, and purple. Walmart’s product images and actual color selection don’t perfectly agree, and so my best guess is that more colors are coming soon.

With colors like “blue sparkle” and “purple diamond glitter,” as well as traditional red and black workshop colors, it looks like Walmart is trying to appeal to everyone. It might just work – I have a bunch of mini tool boxes already and desperately want a set of these!

You can match top and bottom colors, or mix them up.

Price: $20-$25 for the top chest, $20-$25 for the bottom cabinet, depending on color

If anyone at Walmart is reading this, please get in touch. I’ve been getting some weird requests from your influencer marketing people on occasion, but don’t have a single contact to go to with questions about your exclusive Hyper Tough or Hart tool brands. And if you are, why am I first hearing about the Hyper Tough mini tool boxes from a reader?

It looks like the tops have real drawer slides which would be a huge improvement over the Kobalt I bought. I know I got what I paid for, but the drawer movement is still a bit of disappointment.

Yeah, the Harbor Freight ones also have slides, but no lower toolboxes like Kobals (more drawers) and Walmart (doors).

Kobalts newest released boxes have ball bearing slides, and also extend further than (IMO useless, cause the drawers only open less than 3/4 of the way) harbor freight US General boxes.

I picked up a few Performax minis from Menards and have 6 Kobalts. 3 of those base cabs would be perfect.

I hope those color names don’t infer glitter though!

Hyper Tough Mini Tool Box with Blue Sparkle Color

It looks to be a metallic powder coat that’s only glittery in appearance.

I used to give them out as a gift but most of them end up not getting used.

Guess it is a novelty gift for someone that uses real tool boxes.

My wife bought some last Christmas and decorated them with vinyl stick-ons and gave them to fellow quilting family and friends. They were a hit. Know any crafting types?

At the local store there were four colors available – white, black, red and blue – for both top drawers and bottom mini cabinets.

I’m having a hard time visualizing what I would use a 11.6” base cabinet with one (fixed?) shelf for. And these mini top units seem impractical to me, because the hinged lid means you can’t use top surface for storage.
    What am I missing?

Greater detail and realism in 18” doll scale.

      Agreed.
Now if someone made a mini tool box with drawers that was slightly larger than the usual models, and had a solid top, I would be all over them. Something like that would be fantastic for an electronics workbench. Soldering stations & test equipment go on top, tools & accessories go in the drawers.

If the base can be mounted to the wall, I might get 1 or 2 and add it to my French cleats. That would provide flexibility and fit in some smaller spots.

even if they aren’t made specifically to wall mount, just drill some holes in the back and hang them. It’s probably not very thick metal.
