Western Dovetail Drawers on Wheels RTA Tool Cabinet

Dovetail Cabinet RTA Kit

In case you forgot, we won a mobile tool cart, by Western Dovetail. After much anticipation, the ready-to-assemble kit has arrived! A full review is in the works, but thus far it’s safe to say that the quality is absolutely fantastic. Everything from the shipping packaging to the wood finish to the anodized drawer pulls.

I skipped a few steps and built the drawers first. Next will come the case and ball bearing drawer slides. I took a sneak peak at the other components, and the drawer slides are self-closing!! Sweeeeet. Also of exceptional quality is the Maple butcher-block top.

This is what the finished cabinet should look like:

I’m not sure I like the included handles, in which case I might replace them with something more fitting.

Also, thanks to all for your help in voting us to first place!

I’m still jealous that you won this tool cart, Stuart. Not bitterly jealous, but jealous nonetheless…..LOL…j/k

It definitely is a sweet prize. Do you have any plans to paint or stain it?

It looks and feels finished, at least on all outward-facing sides. I don’t plan on painting or staining it, but I will customize it with additional tool-holding accessories.

If it’s not too much, I’ll add a vise on top as well. Once it’s built and carries its weight in tools, I will finally have the space to start building a second cart for kitchen use.

This is my first experience with dovetails, and I sure do love ’em already!

    What are self-closing drawers?
Is that what they use in kitchens?

Right before it slams shut, it slows down?

You push the drawers closed, and then they self-retract for 3/4 of an inch or so. It requires a little more effort to open them up, but it also means that when you roll the cabinet around the drawers won’t open by themselves. Some people might not like it, but I think it’s a very nice touch.
