A reader pointed me towards the Wuben G5 rechargeable flashlight, and just WOW. I really need to get my hands on one.
I’ll go over the main features as they stood out to me – tell me what you think in the comments.
To start off, the form factor looks appealing.

But then I realized how small it was, and that’s when the surprise took over.

It’s small.

But somehow still delivers max brightness of 400 lumens.
There are 3 adjustable lighting modes – low, medium, high.

It has a controllable RGB light, too?
I don’t need that. Well, the red would be convenient. And maybe I can set another color for fun or other purposes.

It’s said to be waterproof to IP68 standards.

And it has a pivoting head, magnet mounting, and pocket clip.
USB-C charging.
All for just $20?! That price is for black or olive green, the white version is $30. Amazon says this is a limited time deal, and it looks like they’re selling a ton of them.
I’ve heard great things about Wuben flashlights before, but haven’t tried them out. The Wuben G5 might just be my first.
That’s a lot of features for $20.
I’ve heard good things and it looks to have really good ratings on Amazon.
Is there anything not to like about this?

fred
Thanks for the post – bought a few for stocking stuffers.

I’ve had the Wuben G5 for maybe a month now. I do like it. Great form factor, does have plenty of features. But I always find myself going back to my Royvon E7 as my EDC. I really like the dual fuel option it has.
Sam
I have 4-5 of these around the house and shop for a while now. Love them.
Alexk
I want it inside a zippo lighter. Just flick open and the light turns on.
Don’t like ordering from Amazon, but going to order this.
Tdot77
You can order from Wuben directly too

Ordering direct is hit and miss. I tried getting. G5 for almost month and had to cancel it. I ordered one from Amazon and had it in a few days.

I’ll be curious to read about your impressions, Stuart.
I make it a regular habit to read the 3-star reviews on Amazon. I find (almost by definition) that they are the most balanced and free of hyperbole— doesn’t mean, of course, that they’re the most accurate. In this case, there are relatively few 3-star reviews, but there are a number of “pump the brakes” remarks that do give me pause.

I happen to love this little flashlight. I had it for a few months now and use it often. Has a fun fidget factor too if that is your thing.
Alexk
Just watched the short video on their site and seeing it clipped on to a hat, and also magnetically attached to a car hood cinched it for me. Green color looks nice, though I wish a bright color could be had for $20.
David
I’m tickled that you took a look at it Stuart! I’ll look forward to hearing what others in the community think.

Sorry – I wrote this up late last night (I got lost in coding for the new theme) and forgot to look up who nudged me in this direction.
Wuben reached out a couple of times, I think I definitely need to talk with them now.

One of the YT videos on this was trying to add up the costs of all the parts (a lot in this thing), the fairly complex machining, the assembly, and lastly the shipping, and they’re still able to make a profit after Amazon takes a big chunk. Amazing.

They dropped 12-20 videos on the same day on YouTube when they came out. Its always been 20 bucks and has dropped as low as 16 in the past. Its a heck of a flashlight for the money and has found its way into thr inside of a toolbag as a light for a veto bag. If your slider on the side gets loose like other flashlights they made they will send you repair kits. Good stuff overall.

I own one and it’s on the side of refrigerator as my house flashlight.
Absolutely amazing product. Just ordered 2 more that way one can charge and one can be on fridge and one for basement.

I’ve put off ordering one of these, but I had points to spend, so I’ve placed an order. I hope it is worthwhile. I love flashlights, so this will be a new form factor to try. I wanted to like the Olight clip light and the Wurkkos clip light but they aren’t my favorites. Maybe this one will fit the bill.

Love my G5

Rovyvon and a couple of other better known Asian brands make similar to this. But no name brands on Amazon, you can find many similar or alternative flashlights.
This seems like a great deal. I have a regular Wuben flashlight, works nice and would not be afraid to by another Wuben product, like this one.

I edc a Wuben C3 in a holster with my Knipex 5″ Cobra’s. I’ve been very happy with that light and would immediately buy another if I somehow lost this one. They are pretty amazing for their low price. The C3 (~1″x 4″) is 1000 max lumens and has several modes\brightness levels…and always goes back to the last used mode – no cycling through several modes every single time which drives me crazy. I’m very interested in trying this Wuben G5 light, especially at this low price. Do I need another light?!?
Tdot77
Forgot to mention the C3 is only $29, and I believe I got it for $24 when I bought it. Well worth it for it’s brightness!

USB-C-shaped charging is nice, but is it actually USB-C spec compliant; will it charge from a PD source like a laptop brick?
Or does it require an A-to-C cable, which is the crutch relied on by designers who failed, somehow, to put the PD personality-setting resistors into their product that would make it talk to a PD source, as required by the spec?
GM
I can confirm that it will charge from an external power bank and a C to C cable. Still don’t like it much.
Josh
I’ve had one of these for about a month. I love it. Easily the best 20 dollar buy of 2025
GM
Well, I’m going to go against the flow here. I bought one weeks ago when Wuben had the first sale, and what I say is meh. Short run time (especially on high), output drops really rapidly on high, non-replaceable battery. Low output overall. If you only need a keychain light then I guess they’re OK. Many better options out there, especially for outdoor use.

I’ve been watching this thing for a month or two & price has always been $20 I believe. Watched a YouTube about it & how crazy it is to be able to make something with that many components and performance anywhere in the world and then sell at profit for $20.
Hard to beat replaceable battery cell flashlights for my uses tho
JoeR
On this recommendation, I bought one yesterday and received it about 630pm pt. I have to admit for the form factor, I am very impressed at the output and build quality. Thanks Stuart.

I have a few Wuben flashlights and all of them are incredible including this one. From my experience they have the best bang for buck torches. They do what they say and the prices are outstanding for what you get.

Y’all might want to take a look at the reviews again as they all seem to be for a different product.
This is a huge downside of this Chinese made stuff (I was going to use a different word, but family-friendly and all that) is that they’ve figured out a way to combine reviews into a different product.
Accordingly, you can discount all of the reviews for this item.
Being a new item, I’d expect to see many ‘vine’ reviews, but there aren’t any here.
I’m a flashlight junkie and will probably buy one to see how it works, but I’m not very hopeful.
AJS
I’ve had mine for a few months now and really like it. One of my go to edc flashlights.
AJS
I got my Wuben G5 back in August after seeing it demonstrated on the Beez Blades youtube channel. I really like mine. I got the green one. It is one of my favorite go to edc flashlights. Now I can’t comment on runtime, because I don’t usally have my lights on for long periods of time. What I can say is it seems well built, very rugged, has a cool clip that can be rotated in three directions, and I really like the light that can be rotated. For what I do with my lights, it seems to have long battery life, but like I said I don’t leave it on for long periods of time. If you are on the fence, for $20, it’s a no brainer.
