Yost Compact Bench Vise

Over at Sears, this Yost RIA-4 compact bench vise is on sale for 50%-off as part of their Cyber Monday tool sale. From our experience with Yost’s clamp-on vise, we’d buy this in a heartbeat if we had an inch of open space left on our workbench. At the sale price of $49.50 it’s a steal!

The compact 4″ vise is built from 30,000 PSI gray cast iron and features a completely enclosed screw assembly. It swivels a complete 360° and has two lock-downs. The hardened steel grooved jaws are easily replaceable.

    Made in the USA?

I don’t think so. Yost has a list of USA-made vises on their site and this is one of the few not on there.

I have the following Craftsman version at home. I wonder what features make this Yost vise much more expensive than craftsman version (original price)? Thanks

Build quality? Not all vises – even those made overseas – are built the same. Generally, the more you spend the better the overall quality. One thing to note is that this Yost vise can swivel 360° and the Craftsman only 180°.

Yost is 15 pounds while the craftsman is 19 pounds.

      Significant ?

The Yost is also marketed as a compact bench vise; it is purposely smaller than a full-size bench vise. For that matter, my Craftsman Pro 4.5″ vise (Wilton bullet clone) is maybe 45 lbs.

I added it to an order I was making and tried to add the SEARS2012. The website treated them as two separate orders. shucks.

    This craftsman professional one:

$20 off $100 coupon to make it $86. Is it a good deal?

In my opinion, yes. I ordered mine for $103 shipped a while back. $86 plus tax shipped is definitely a good deal.
